Monarchists' Cookbook I

I have no opinion on the strongest save, but I think the next round would be more interesting if everyone kept playing from the same save.

I think we should stick to the best ball format as well. I can only play the next round and then will be away for two weeks, which will for sure mean this game should be over and I will then look forward to the next one.

I thought we all had Great Artists, my bad, that does actually make a difference. With MoM in the bank, and an Artist ready to pop . . . well 15 turn GAs speak for themselves.

As for Astro, it just opens up a LOT of doors. Frigates, Galleons, assaulting KK, attacking Louis from the sea. Popping is saves a heckuva lot of beakers, perhaps not beakers right now, but certainly down the road.

Overall, I actually like my own save, of course. I had a fairly specific set of goals (Rifling from Lib) and I am pretty close to being able to achieve that.

Heh, I know Hermit, but its hard not too, since I had my own plan in mind, and played toward it, so I would like to see it through. No one else has Printing Press, right? Its a pre-req to Replacable Parts, which leads to Rifling. So not playing my save puts my plan of Rifling from Lib farther and farther behind.

well, we all have our plans in mind that we're playing toward. in my game i have 2 GMs out on caravels going on trade missions. that was never mentioned in the consideration of my save. these two trade missions will allow 100% science for a long time. meanwhile we can continue to expand along the eastern continent. even if we lose another undefended city, it wouldn't take long to whip out a couple of troops and rebuild what was lost.

I agree hermit, that is why I sort of suggested we wild-card this last round, as we all had long-term goals that are relatively different in each game. Rolo wants Steel from Lib and roll with Cannons and Muskets on his Galleons. You and OTAK want to hyper-expand toward Louis, and get that new Capitol up ASAP. Actually, without the barb problem in your game, I would take yours. If its down to rolo or OTAK, I take Astronomy, and re-do my Music Artist, and re-evaluate my Lib decisions. OTAKs save is very strong though, stronger than mine, to be honest, but since no one else is headed to Rifling from Lib, I decided on Astronomy as the "tie breaker". And notice, this time, I didnt pull any lame "point out negatives of others" crap like I did before (still very sorry about that, I was in a pissy mood and it reflected in my "tone").

We pretty much decided this is the last round anyway, since by the end of it the game will be "all but over". Personally, I am with you, lets "call" this one, there is very little educational value in mopping up a romp, and get the next one going. Having one final report, I kinda thought it might be neat to toss in the "twist" of a wild card.

Besides, I can always play my own save through the end anyway, to see how my Rifling from Lib, tech Nationalism, run a 30 turn Golden Age to build an army that can kill multiple targets simultaneously, etc works out.

I'm pretty much just joking around at this point, since whichever way we go, we have won and hopefully we have provided something of interest to the community. :) We have a strong group playing here (at least for monarch level). I'm looking forward to the next one, but won't be able to play it until I get back from holidays mid-June.

Round 5, "the mopup" begins!

The 5th and final Round of this Game will be played using r_rolo1's Round 4 submission. (@ r_rolo1: feel free to remove the SPOILER tags from your Round 4 report.)

Because this game is in a position of obvious victory, Round 5 will be the final Round of Game 1!

Play the Round through until victory, but please save at 1600 AD as well as 1 turn before victory and attach both to your Report.

Likewise, please emphasize the official Round 5 turnset, which is from 1200 AD - 1600 AD, in your Report. (That isn't to say "stop your report at 1600 AD" ... just that it will be more important to see how you set yourself up for victory than to see how you conduct "the mopup".)

The IRL length of Round 5 will be the same as in previous rounds; please play and report before the morning of Tuesday May 27, 2008.

NOTE:
Don't forget to name your save(s) with your name, game and Round # & game date (i.e. "MC1 Round 5 Sumyongai AD-1600").

Played until 1600 AD, not doing my full write up now, just want to mention one thing, mostly for Vale, heh:

Spoiler :
When I took Angle from the Barbs, Louis, our "arch nemesis", had a single Archer standing on a mine near it. I didnt raze the city, it had 6 pop so I kept it. Well, the following turn Louis DoWed on me!!

His mistake, I had 3 galleons already loaded with maces and trebs just looking for a likely target, so I sent them over, along with 4 Frigs, and took out Paris. Louis folded like a lawnchair, and now hes my biotch, LOL.

SB is actually my biggest worry, still, but hes a vassal. Its nuts, he has 12 cities, and Sulie only has 1, yet is his master! I dont get it at ALL

Hm, did I only imagine that I posted my final report? I'd hate to have to redo that whole thing, heh.

:deadhorse:

So the AI could've placed this city 1 tile in ANY direction and gotten 1 or 2 Clams in the BFC.

Instead, it decided to settle on the Iron.

This kind of stuff makes me ashamed to brag about winning.

I did that same thing one round. Sucks spending all that time and clicking the wrong button.

I actually think the AI placed its cities better in Vanilla. I almost never felt like I had to raze and re-settle a city in Vanilla because it was 1 tile off.

I actually ended up just keeping Angle in this game, it was up to 6 pop when I took it, and I didnt feel like running a settler over and starting at 1, heh.

Ugh, well, it was a conquest victory in like 1921 AD, nothing very interesting really. Maybe I'll try to write it up again, that really bites!

Wow ... I totally underestimated how long it would take to play that Round ... sheesh ...

I was trying to get work done while playing, but I still left way too much to be done today, so I'll start with an Obsolete-style "teaser":

(I'll do the full write up during the day tomorrow.)

Currently 139 Riflemen, but only 76 of them Built ... I wonder where the other 63 came from? :mischief:

Heh, you beat my time, but I am going for a diplo win myself, I am 30ish votes short of an AP victory without owning the AP (a first for me).

And yes, its taking FOREVER, LOL. I could have played 4 half-games in the time it has taken me to finish this one!
