Mongolia

I'd prefer steadily increasing requirements along with an entirely separate annexation option. Not because I view Mongolia to be too powerful, but due to the AI picking Statecraft when all the CSs on their side of the world are gone. Dunno if that's feasible.
Or maybe a simple cooldown would do. Something to keep a few on their starter continent would help for early tribute and later options.
Not possible. Already is a cool down. Mongolia is fine overall.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But this kind of statement tends to annoy people.
Well, I think complains are more in the spirit of Mongolia being annoying than it being overpowered. But there are also people that like the challenge. When I'm going militaristic, I don't care about Mongolia, she's just giving you reasons to take on her, but playing peacefully and trying to be nice to all and diplomatic just doesn't work. It's... different. If only Mongolia wasn't in all my recent games...

Could be worse, one of my tries with India I ended up neighbour to Celts and I couldn't found. XD

The AI's not doing anything a player couldn't do. If you don't challenge Mongolia, and leave them to do what they want without roadbump, this is what happens:

I really don't see that as an issue. If you don't prevent Washington he will expand into every nook and cranny of the world. If you don't stop Maria Therea she'll marry into every CS on the map. etc.etc.

That map is literally what I had in mind in thinking that Mongolia is... Mongolia. I only wish all VP could be like that.

Play on bigger maps with loads of players and you'll see this stuff a lot. I've seen the Huns, Khans, Inca, Shoshone, Inca again, Iroquois, and Arabia expand across the world. One time the Huns had a bit over half of what you see in that pic on ynaemp, which took 40 or so cities. I've yet to see anything as high as 50 since razing starts around that time (and I try not to let that happen).

Spoiler Mongolia :

One City Challenge I did, Genghis went full Mongol ( I'm the blue dot Byzantium, the other civ is Egypt)

I'm just saying that responding with 'They are fine' when someone tries to bring up a point just feels dismissive. I know that others do this as well, but you carry authority, which means you have to be more careful with how you phrase it :D.
Lines like 'I think they're fine', 'In my testing their performance is fine', 'Them rolling over city-states is a design-decision' or 'I'm not noticing anything out of the ordinary' feels less dismissive.

Anyways, you're the boss and you do what you want :D

That's the Mongols!

Who won?
Eventually the great city of Constantinople, the last bastion of freedom, fell the mongol horde. I couldn't hold against heavy bombers and I lost all my strategic resources. Funny enough Egypt won via tourism, because when Mongols conquered me I was the only person not influenced by Egypt's culture. I was about 30 turns from a spaceship.

Crazy game, and I love the Mongols' Achilles heel!

Not to be a whiner, but what can a human player, in a deity/immortal game, realistically do in the first 80-ish turns to challenge Mongolia on the far side of the map in a way to prevent them annexing 3-5 city states in that time?

Declaring war? Tried it several times, doesn't deter them from annexing their neighbouring CS, they simply won't send troops towards you for a long time. Bribe another civ to go to war? In the (gold-)sparse start of the game, it's either impossible or you'll have to "sell the farm" to do it, crippling yourself. Declare war and send your troops to engage their troops? Suicide, the other AI will pounce on your defenseless lands.

What course of action am I missing/misusing?

Let them overextend, build up, find an AI friend and become known as LukaSlovenia29 THE LIBERATOR.

Thanks for the reply. But in your previous posts, you showed us the map warning us of the great Mongol empire if we don't challenge them, and now you're saying it's not such a big deal if they grow big, that they'll overextend etc. What if they don't overextend? I'm confused.

I'm not saying you have to prevent all CS surrenders. I'm saying that, if you see it happening, the best possible reaction is coalition-building against them. Denounce them, others are likely to follow (most AI will denounce a warmonger IF they know that someone else already has.).

Not really a balance question, but why does the Ger use the Hov art asset from the fall of Rome scenario? It's a thatch-roof hut, and It just throws me off every time I see it. Would it make sense to reach out to DJSHenninger for the use of his Kiiz Uy icon?
