[NFP] Monopolies and Corporations Game Mode Discussion Thread

Has anyone used corporations with the Owls secret society? I have no mods but only one Gilded Vault shows up on the Great Work screen even though I have built them in several cities. I just established my first corporation but the one GV has no slot for a product and as I said none of the other GV from other cities are listed on the Great Work screen.

Guilded Vault replace Banks. You need Stock Exchanges to store the Industry Products.

I'm not sure if this is intended but I got the "top hat and a monocle" achievement really early... I just improved two of the same luxury and it popped (oddly, I think it popped like three or four turns later?). This was just tea with plantations... it's my first monopolies game, so I don't even know how it works yet. I am researching the industry tile improvement right now but don't think I have it yet (could be wrong)

I noticed that playing on the Switch version is at a disadvantage when it comes to finding luxury resources to get a monopoly. What do you think are the chances of the function being ported... before the final update?:undecide:

My first resource was Pearls and being on the coast I had not built any HS because I had neither mountains nor natural wonders. Perhaps its a way of balancing out that the coast not having high adjacency HS, and would 'unbalanced' to have currency resources? I've only started one game so I'm not sure how the other lux interact as resources.

PS4 doesn't have a search function either and I doubt one will every be added any console version of the game at this point if it hasn't already given how basic of function it is.

But why do I have only 1 Vault on GW screen?
The Renaissance Era Great Merchant Giovanni de' Medici will instantly build a Market and a Bank (or in your case, a Market and a Gilded Vault) and give it two Great Work slots that can hold anything. Because this special Gilded Vault can hold Great Works, it'll appear on the Great Work screen. As you mentioned, there's only one Gilded Vault on the screen - all the other Gilded Vaults don't hold anything.

I realized this just after I posted. I should have taken 1 more minute to think about it. Thanks.

IIRC the Gossip Log was implemented a little later than the PC version so here's still crossing fingers for the console version search function...

The Gossip Log was on PS4 with Rise and Fall/Gathering Storm bundle so I am not expecting any kind of search function on consoles.

Ah, I see. It must have been the Diplomacy Ribbon or something I can't seem to remember. I guess only time will tell.

It's pretty amusing that they turned the Cultural Victory into the Economic VIctory

I think the Monopolies and Corporations mode would be a lot more fun if the devs hadn’t stopped AI civs from improving luxury resources all together.

I’m on turn 300 of my marathon game and the 9 other civs have yet to acquire one luxury resource. They only farm strategic ones it seems.

When they said you could form a monopoly around resources with this patch, I didn’t realize they meant by being the only player who has luxuries.

Yeah... I'm pretty deligent about keeping up with luxuries I haven't aquired. (I have a bureaucratic system of performing all diplomatic actions at the expiration of alliances. What? You didn't want to be an ally/friend when I asked you but now you want a relationship? You'll have to wait the 30 turn cycle, buddy!) This update made them have not much to trade.

Wow... 20 pages worth of broken Tourism balance "reports"!

To take a deep breath.. here's something i had fun with.
Just created a custom list of Corporate names (mostly based on reality) for each Luxury types.

after a game as Vietnam with this mode... yeah not playing with this mode till the nerf.
I managed to get the cultural victory even BEFORE I reached stage 3 goverment. It felt like playing with cheat mode on.

But...Maxwell isn't real coffee. :( Also wrong kind of truffles. :p

since i won't be playing with this game mode until the tourism gets fixed, I figured I'd just root thru the files to see what product names there are since I won't be seeing them for a while anyways. Compiled a list of them all for anyone interested, looks like there's 5 product names per resource

Small bug. I used the Great Merchant Caopelus(sp?), the one that duplicates an existing luxury resource. I had one silver and duplicated it, but I still wasn't able to build an industry on the one silver that I had.
