Although probably most non europeans here are not that aware that currently the EU presidency is the glorious and entirely independent Greek government, it seems that the May elections are by now more likely to be triple elections here (originally they would be just EU elections, then the government wanted to also extend the municipalities elections past the lawful 4 years and have them along the EU ones, and now it may be forced to go to a general election as well...).

The main developments were that as part of the ongoing and highly within the boundaries of our democratic constitution (:deal: :sniper: :yup: :yup: :yup: ) pre-emptive jailings of elected parliamentarians, a video has been posted in RT showing the general secretary of the current government talking to one of the elected in parliament members of the satanic GD party :\

The general secretary said a number of nice things, such as that in his view the prime minister ordered the jailings of the three GD members and did not respect any separation of powers between the legislative and the judicial branches. He also called the procedure as political persecution.

The main highlight, though, was that he (general secretary of the current government) termed the prime minister (Samaras) as something which is the nastier (and slang) term for homosexual..

Following all that the general secretary resigned, claimed he was playing double-agent with the GD ( ), said he did so in order to save the people who voted for GD ( :D ), and his son attacked some elected parliamentarians of GD and then promptly fled the parliament so as not to get arrested :rotfl:

_

So, as always, it is fun to live in the most benevolent (and funny) dictatorship of the Gau we have here :D

RT article said:
Announcing his resignation on Wednesday, Baltakos didn’t directly refer to the leaked comments, but said he was stepping down in response to the outrage caused by the footage, which was shown on TV. He added he was trying to appease Kasidiaris’ suspicion of a government conspiracy against his party.

"I denied it and tried to get rid of the pressure. Everything I said during the discussion was aimed at this, and nothing else, just to get rid of this pressure," Baltakos said, as cited by Reuters.

Justice Minister Charalambos Athanassiou and Police Minister Nikos Dendias denied any involvement with an alleged politically-motivated clampdown on Golden Dawn.

Before the video was leaked on the internet, Kasidiaris provided a transcript of the conversation to parliament, arguing that it proved the existence of a government conspiracy.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Greek parliament voted to strip legal immunities from Kasidiaris and four other Golden Dawn MPs, including Eleni Zaroulia the wife of the party leader, Nikolaos Mihaloliakos. The move opened the way for charging four of the lawmakers with membership of a criminal organization.

(youtube video of that talk by the former general secretary, along with subtitles in English, exists in the RT article linked).

The thread is meant to showcase some of the stuff going on here, and to possibly lead to some discussion of whether the EU (and its GAUGreece) are within what can be termed as a Democracy.
For it might be a Republic ;)

Or, i don't know, a paternal cleptocrat autocracy?

Do not quote RT if you want to be taken seriously ;)

As for Greece, I support abolishing its independence and placing it under direct EU rule lead by a special Commissioner for Greece. Greek police and military should be abolished and their gear sold off to pay for some of the debts. Security would be enforced by EU forces and military police. After a period of +- 10 years during which basic concepts such as "market economy" and "rule of law" would be reintroduced in the country, new elections would be held to establish an autonomous Greek government.

:mischief:

:\

Winner, it's an RD thread exactly so as to negate posts like your offering there.. Better no post at all than this kind of straw-carrying in a muddy hill-passage :|

I am sorry, but an RD thread Opening Post itself should adhere to good standards with respect to structure, clarity, neutrality, sources, and general informativeness. Posting a few anecdotes/opinions and sourcing RT invites exactly the kind of reaction I've given you, and deservingly.

^Kool.

Only that you aren't the one who judges if the thread is moderated as an RD one.

Afaik the issue of whether you (or any other) view a thread as non-RD while it is designated as RD, is of no importance in regards to your deliberate behavior to not be civil here when you have more than enough threads to make such comments in already (and there be readily answered back in a witty manner ;) ).

Avoid quoting news media, let alone Russia Today. You don't want to end up like many other members of CFC who are screaming and repeating everything they hear from the news media.

^I am not prone to looking for those media, but the page linked has the actual video along with English subtitles (which i was not able to find elsewhere after a bit of googling). The video is the story, at any rate, some discussion between the (now ex) general secretary of the government here, and a GD elected parliamentarian.

Can we take Thrace, while we're at it? That'd shut the bloody nationalists hungering for national unification for a bit.
