"America's mayor" wants to be loved, or else...

“I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America,” Giuliani said during the dinner at the 21 Club, a former Prohibition-era speakeasy in midtown Manhattan. “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.”

Rudy, do you love Obama? Why is loving you required to love America?

Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York on Thursday defended his assertion that President Obama did not love America, and said that his criticism of Mr. Obama’s upbringing should not be considered racist because the president was raised by “a white mother.”

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/fir...-obama-had-a-white-mother-so-im-not-a-racist/

Wasn't that a crime a few decades ago in some parts of the country? Can we mention that without Rudy accusing us of not loving him? That wont win her many points with racists, I imagine they'd consider her a "race traitor" and usually its people of mixed ethnicity who get the most discrimination.

“Some people thought it was racist — I thought that was a joke, since he was brought up by a white mother, a white grandfather, went to white schools, and most of this he learned from white people,” Mr. Giuliani said in the interview. “This isn’t racism. This is socialism or possibly anti-colonialism.”

I'm not sure what to make of that last part, Rudy denies racism by admitting he's a socialist? Or is he denying he called Obama a racist when he's the one being accused? The country was founded by people rebelling against colonialism. Does Rudy think George Washington didn't love his country?

Mr. Giuliani said he also objected to the president’s comments about the Crusades at the National Prayer Breakfast this month, in which Mr. Obama said that during the Inquisition, people had “committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.”

“Now we know there’s something wrong with the guy,” Mr. Giuliani said of the president. “I thought that one sort of went off the cliff.’’

He added: “What I don’t find with Obama — this will get me in more trouble again — is a really deep knowledge of history. I think it’s a dilettante’s knowledge of history.”

I’m not sure how wrong the Crusades are. The Crusades were kind of an equal battle between two groups of barbarians.

lolz

I dont remember Rudy and the Repubs criticizing Bush for repeatedly telling the world we are not at war with Islam. They were too busy accusing people of lacking patriotism for the crime of criticizing Bush. The prez has been advised to detach the terrorists from the religion to de-legitimize them, the same thing Bush was told and did.

And the reason why Obama mentioned the crusades etc is to avoid the hypocrisy of complaining about current evils while ignoring the past. There is quite a difference though, the crusades had the blessings of Rudy's Church and by talking about them Obama is attaching the terrorists to Islam by analogy.

I dont understand how saying someone doesnt love america is racist.

To the rest, just another politician opening their mouth.

Just at a guess, the whole "he should have turned out better since his mother was white" thing might not sit well with some people.

As to the rest, just another Republican politician feeding the Obama hate that is rampant in the party.

I'm skeptical of the logic myself, but "the right" has used Obama's rather unique upbringing to argue he's not one of us and his race is part of that. I dont think they attacked Clinton and other white men on that basis.

What's not to love?

You know who loved America when it asked it young men to fight and die in Vietnam ?
Mitt Romney who arranged a pro war protest then fled to France, That it loving America and true patriotism.
Also tax evasion of the US government is just showing America that you love it very very much.

He wasn't just saying Obama doesn't love America. He was saying Obama isn't capable of loving Americans specifically because of the way he was raised (either by Muslims or Kenyans, take your pick). His backpeddling confirms this as he says "it's ok though because his mother is white".

At the 2008 Republican convention, one speaker went so far as to argue that Obama had a great, uniquely American life story. McCain and Obama, this speaker said, "they're both good and patriotic men with very different life experiences that have led them to this moment of shared history." He mocked Obama, but then he came back around to praise. "His rise is remarkable in its own right. It's the kind of thing that can happen only in America."

Shortly thereafter, Rudy Giuliani finished his speech and left the stage.

How can anyone love America?
Listen to his pastor every Sunday.

Or ask his mentor.

Or read his wife's senior year thesis about the racial divide in America.

The only real conclusion is that America probably sucks in Obama's inner circles' view.
After the million dollar vacations and endless awesome golf trips, I'm sure Obama loves America by now. :)
Rudy is living in the past.

If O'Bama didn't love America, you would have thought he could have destroyed it by now. Or perhaps the measure of patriotism is to see how much blood and treasure can be wasted on a needless war.

I always get confused when someone says "anti-colonialism" as a bad thing. Like yes, isn't that a good thing?

You know it's possible to love America the country and Americans the people and still have problems with certain aspects of it, right?

That's kind of Lupe Fiasco's whole schtick:

Also that vacation line is getting tired. You should probably stop trotting it out:

The "religious right" is full of preachers and faithful condemning the sinners and politicians they hold responsible for everything from hurricanes to 9/11. And they have a home at Fox News where they spend all day criticizing sinners and politicians. Why do they love America if nobody else can criticize the sinners and politicians?

Rudy is a draft-dodger. He was raised by his father who was a draft-dodger. His uncles were all draft-dodgers. Some of his family were petty mobsters, others were crooked cops. But Rudy loves America.
