well after trying a few more games after my first monarch win with Ragnar (Maraton/huge) I have found a few more things.

Barbarian are a major pain unless I get an archeopolego map and can view all land with warriors.

I do not get a bouns versus barbarians anymore:sad:

Isolated starts are the kiss of death, I might as well hit the reload button. Even with Saladin pumping out wonders and great prophets and starting with early stone I tanked badly in tech (REAL, REAL bad).

The great wall is really, really good. I finally got a new game going with Cyrus, who built the great wall. Did require I get lucky with gold in the capital fat cross though. Pangea map no less, bring it on boys!!!!!

Religions are not as difficult to found as I thought.

Goody huts pop alot more free techs than Prince.

I can keep up in Tech better than I thought i could, gold helps alot.

Early alphabet is essential to keep up techwise with AIs. On Prince it gave me an edge.

AIs do not trade techs as much as before. I could not get Meditation from Montezuma when I offered polytheism or even later polytheism and priesthood.

any other little points I missed?

This is perhaps an indication that you need to recalibrate what you consider to be a winning position.

In a recent game of mine, Alexander showed up in a caravel with 1100 points when I only had 600. And of course he had a zillion techs that I lacked.

On the other hand, I had just used Liberalism to slingshot to Constitution, so am I really so far behind in real terms?

Isolated start or no, the human player is still Human, with all the advantages that implies.

You are may be correct. I can win an isolated start on Prince, but this is really only my second attempt on Monarch. I decided to trash the gaem and restart another to fursther sharpen my monarch skills before BTS comes out. It does take a few days to play a marathon speed/huge map game for me:eek:

Here's a tip for you: Mansa Musa must die.

Never get involved in a land war in asia.

Never cross a sicilian when death is on the line.

I did those with the left side of my brain.
