@ Owen Glyndwr: What is it that make her so bad in your opinion (compared to the others on the list)? I don't know if you're looking for a more hands-on kind of leader but that would be Empress Matilda or someone like Boudicca and I think England fared better during the ones listed.

I'm in class right now so I can't really go into it in great detail, but if you went out and read some non-popular, non-whig histories on the era you'd realize she's really not very great at all. Generally the idea of the great, strong, "virign" queen really comes from Elizabeth herself parading it around, and later from Whigs perpetuating it. In reality she generally had no idea what she was doing, and was extremely indecisive. Just look at how she carried on her wars with Spain, or the way she handled Leicester. Really one of the few things she did right was killing off Mary Queen of Scots, and even then it took her forever and 2 major rebellions before she actually got around to making the correct decision.
