So, what do you think are the most infuriating Unique Abilities to deal with in enemy civilizations? I think the worst one is Persia's Achaemenid Legacy. They seem to be in a Golden Age nearly all the time and that +1

can really sting if you don't pay attention.

Japan (no explanation needed).
Austria on high difficulties apparently (didn't play much GK for myself yet, but that's what I heard/read).
The Iroquois (same reason as you mentioned for Persia).
The Inca (same reason as you mentioned for Persia).
China (if they are your neighbor and you planned to expand by conquest that mighty GG can be a major pain.
Egypt (when setting up the advanced rules there should be a button for "all AIs may be a random civ but not Egypt" - there is nothing more painful than building a wonder and getting beaten to it by a few turns).

The best UA to deal with: Ethopia. Haile usually has the most cities of all the AIs/. Quite funny.

Right, I forgot about Japan. Ugh, ranged units are very important. Haven't met Austria yet though, but I've heard the stories.

Siam.
They always get huge and have large tech output because of it.

I've a tendency to ignore city states who aren't neighbors until early mid game. Because of this, Austria has turned into a runaway monster on me a couple of times. First time I played a game against them I was finished by the Renaissance.

I'm going to have to 2nd Siam, if only because they hog all the city-states due to UA and have this stunning tendency to run over everyone with oliphants

Siam's ability, while good, is never what I notice. It's always the Nelephants that stand out.

Out of vanilla civs, Japan is the only one where I've ever consciously thought "damn that ability." Iroquois and Persia have the potential for the same, but I guess I've been lucky.

I can't speak for the expansion yet, but I would think Austria is top on the list from what I've heard.

Austria can be annoying, but in one game where I was on good terms with them the whole time they ended up buying the city states around me, it was annoying until I noticed they were happy to let me sit there and research my way to spaceship victory while they kept my enemies at bay.

There was one game that springs to mind though, where about halfway through Alexander attacked me and almost all the city states were his ally. I hadn't paid all that much attention to them in that game and was quite surprised.

Since I mainly play Siam, I'm most inclined to get annoyed by Austria. In my last game with Maria Theresa, she grabbed Kuala Lumpur on my continent, which as an all-important cultural CS I was courting. Fortunately, for some reason Austria was very slow about buying up CSes despite alliances and having lots of money, but it would have been even more annoying if she hadn't.

I don't find the most infuriating UAs the ones that are strongest or most likely to lose me the game - in that game Austria didn't win, China did - just the ones that interfere with my own strategy.

And Japan.

Korea can be a bit annoying if you plan to attack them during the rennaisance. Them blasted turtle boats and hwachas! I would have a list like this:

1. Austria
2. Japan
3. Korea
4. China
5. Washington (because he covets my lands no matter what)

For UA, I'd go with either the new Ottoman Empire, or good ol' Japan. However, neither of those make it onto the civs I find annoying in general, as Oda Is usually noble and never reall "YOINK"s me, and sulieman is always willing to trade, even when he devlares war every 30 turns or so.

1. Austria
2. Japan
3. Incans (particularly when they get Great Wall)
4. Egypt (keeps beating me on early wonders on lower difficulties)
5. Germany (huge cheap armies suck)

Austria - by far & beyond.

Several AIs have UAs that are good or in proper circumstances excellent but in most cases one can adapt to those along the game but Austria's infinite marriages come usually out of nowhere. Other's may be hard but purely on annoyance scale Austria is in a class of it's own.

Austria. With the ludicrous AI gold bonuses, Austria eats every city-state.

Which ruins the game for everyone else, since you can't liberate an Austrian city state.

Just found out that on the Immortal Duel map I'm playing (as Siam), Austria is my rival. My alliance with Warsaw is strong - I'm just going to have to station a spy there as soon as I get a second and ensure Maria Theresa can't ally it. Hopefully Sidon will stick around too.

While I agree Austria is very annoying, since its UA is irreversible, at the same time it's an interesting challenge to keep CSes out of her grasp. Gold by itself is not very good at cementing alliances since it's capped at 1000 gold per turn, and influence from gold falls (though not by much) over time.

Austria is annoying even if there is game set without CSes.

On immortal and deity, pulls the the same 'tactics' on other Civs like they are CS. Always turning them against the player, and while is rushing for cultural victory, you fight a world war against every Civ in game, without ability to get peace even if you have them almost crashed and at the last city.
Where usually, every civ asks for peace when you surround their capital even on Deity.
