Just a thread about gods, theorised by humans, ritually honored or not, and even fictional ones count here.

I like some of the deity-ideas. Obviously not the boring christian, islamic or jewish ones...

So, some of my own interests:

-Tezcatlipoca (Aztec)

Tezcatlipoca became the main Aztec god, and in the end all other Aztec main deities were seen as alter-egos of his (the four Tezcatlipocas). He was not friendly to humans. He was supposed to be locked in eternal battle with other cosmic gods, and asked humans to help empower him in that fight, by sacrificing other humans to his temples.
Tezcatlipoca was not an ally of the Aztecs, but a sort of lesser evil, since it seems to have been the idea that if he lost his eternal battle then the other gods would visit the earth and be far more cruel to the people.

A very interesting Aztec description of Tezcatlipoca is "The enemy of both sides" (i suppose meaning both an enemy to the other gods, and to the humans).
Also of note is that while no human could see Tezcatlipoca, even after they died, supposedly the bravest warriors would be able to see a very small part of that god through the holes created in their own shields due to the glorious combat they were in.

I will post other interesting gods later, your turn if you want to take part in the thread :)

The Trinity, because its three members are the only true god and all others are blasphemy and false.

Gruumsh One Eye of course.

Either the Fleetmind or Planet. Or even the Universal AC.

As for real deities, I'll have to go with Amaterasu. Female chief deities are interesting, and she's definitely interesting enough to have a video game based on her.

I killed a god once. That was pretty interesting.

Sun deities tend to be, well, "interesting", at least in my experience. Himiko caused unquantifiable amounts of death and destruction, but also, y'know, personal growth on my part, so I guess that's a wash. Khryl's got the borderline-evil monastic order of "too bad for your punk ass" followers thing going, but He also made the Covenant of Pirichanthe and founded the Monasteries. Even Apollo was not just an obnoxious rapist and the avatar of disease, but was possessed of more than a little bit of foresight and prophecy. That's kinda...cool? I guess?

Ahura Mazda, because he approves of wincest.

I also have a soft spot for Thoth, Persephone, and Athena. Especially Thoth. I always thought of him as this really chill guy, sort of like the cool smart guy who's always cool and smart.

they seriously have to turn American Gods into a freaking HBO miniseries yesterday

The deity was too (self-) absorbed by his own nihilism while cared too much to be worshipped and validated by others to ever achieve true power. His quest to try to get others to ask "why does it even matter" resulted in his own wishy-washy wanton behavior while motivating a team of exceptional warriors to achieve nigh godlike powers of their own with the singular combined purpose of destroying the destroyer.
