Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat who will become House majority leader and is writing the schedule for the next Congress, said members should expect longer hours than the brief week they have grown accustomed to [...]
"Keeping us up here eats away at families," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. "Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families -- that's what this says."

Poor baby has a one-and-a-half day work week at $160,000 a year signing legislation lobbyists write for him. I'm sooooo moved.

Hoyer should just say, "The Republicans aren't required to follow the extended schedule. In fact, we encourage them not to. The fewer votes Republicans cast, the better off the country is. Plus, more time home means less time in Washington molesting underage boys."

That's hiliarious... do you have the source for that?

This is just another case of the liberal agenda against marriage and familiy.

Why dont they move to where they work?

Kind of have to side with the Dems on this one. You want a six figure salary? Work for it!

That is indeed a pitiful excuse to not work.

I posted an article a few weeks ago about this latest Congress being the worst ever. They have worked the least of all Congresses before them. The article was from the Rolling Stone.

Here it is:

Lazy people. :shake:

Do they expect work to be served on a plate so they can eat it and get it over with it? :p

Do you honestly, and I mean honestly, think the republicans have any better or worse work ethic than the democrats do? Both parties are probably rife with people that have schedules like that. To try and claim some type of moral highground on this issue is just silly beyond words.

I for one like my reps to return home and work in their local offices. If they spend all of their time in Washington they become out of touch with the the people they are supposed to represent.

What a bunch of lazy old farts. They probably were born rich too.

:goodjob: Very true.

Unfortunately, there are a few OTes (PP being probably the main one on the left side of things) who are just that blindly partisan as to believe the "we are saints, they are devils" crap.

Although i can sympathize with them alittle. It must be a boring job.

I only lied to my employer once to get off work. Its not a good habit.

Regardless if the intent of the OP was a partisan attack or not, I do find it ridiculous that Senators and/or Representatives don't work, at least on average, a good 50+ hour 5 or 6 day week. I don't begrudge them long vacation periods, and I know Congress adjourns for extended periods, but when it is in session, I expect my reps to be working their collective butts off for me.

Yes, but not boring enough to stop working. ;)

Off-topic: What did you tell him?

I had to take my little sister somewhere (I dont even have a little sister just a big sister :D ).

And what THAT says is that Rep. Jack Kingston is an overpartisan idiot. I wonder how he feels about military personnel deployed to Iraq? Is he anti-family for being in the party helping to keep them there?

Reminds me of the Roman senate sometime during the empire... 6000 something senators. It rarely, if ever gathered. None of them were interested about politics, only having to pay no taxes as senators...
