What do you guys think? I personally believe the Ottomans and The Incans are pretty underrated.

INB4 America

Iroquois

I would agree about the Ottomans, but Inca are known top tier.

I'll say Russia.

Ghandi - I didn't understand the math behind his UA until recently and its's very powerful for WIDE empires.

Sweden doesn't get the love it deserves. Caroleans are monsters and it gets so many CS allies from all the Generals you generate in your warmongering.

And even if you don't feel like going on a conquering spree, you can easily get 50+% boost to great person generation from DoFs. Sweeden are a very impressive and flexible civ. :goodjob:

I would say Indonesia. Except for on a Pangaea map. Being able to drop a Settler off-continent wherever you want and at least Happiness-neutral is powerful. Their Kris Swordsmen are goofy though.

Until you get to PP and AIs propose to ban your luxuries one after the other as they can't access them anyhow.

Does this actually happen? I almost never see AIs ban luxuries unless they're at war with you and even then people vote against them. And for that matter, it seems like bad design that their luxuries can even be banned...

I was about to say Indonesia and even on Pangaea maps they can run a Garden in every city for maximal GP generation everywhere.

Little known fact: the extra luxes you get on your cities actually increase the gold yield of the city by 2.

Happened to me each time I played them. I was essentially bound to trade my last copy to the CS-dominant AI that typicaply proposed it to get him to vote against his own proposal but typically if it is proposed, all AIs without a current (on vote turn) access will vote for the ban.

Well, I imagine the WC leaders would be less inclined to propose the ban in the first place if you had been trading it to them already. It seems like something you could anticipate.

Denmark. Their UA is highly under-rated. The value of getting ranged/siege weapons into firing range and attacking on the same turn even in rough terrain cannot be overestimated.

It's even valuable on Pangaea. There are still lots of coastal cities, and it works with lakes and inland seas too. Rocket Artillery takes this to the next level. :D

And action-free pillaging allows a horse unit to pillage 2x in one turn and still end the turn outside of firing range.

Sweden is also underrated.

Sweden, They aren't top tier but they are flexible in that you can basically do anything you want with them and they'll be pretty successful at it.

Taken from the current overall civ elimination thread found into the general discussions :

30 The Ottomans
31 ~ Japan
32 ~ Egypt
33 ~ Polynesia
34 ~ Morocco
35 ~ The Iroquois
36 ~ Byzantium
37 ~ Brazil
38 ~ America
39 ~ Russia
40 ~ Venice
41 ~ India
42 ~ France
43 ~ Denmark

Russia definitively should be at least top 15
Iroquois and Egypt should be higher too.

Yup, Denmark in dead last. I think most people on these forums play peaceful. ;-)

+1 Movement while embarked and 1 Movement point to move from land to sea means that catapults can move, set up *and* fire on the same turn. Berserkers get +1 Movement point and the Amphibious promotion, which is very nice. Although they come at a weird point in the tree, if you build them with the long-term goal of upgrading them to Musketmen and beyond, it *definitely* comes in handy. They also eventually upgrade to Norwegian Ski Infantry, which then gains them double movement in hills and +25% to combat in hills without forest/jungle.

This double movement, along with 2 extra movement if they start in the ocean, means they can move onto land from 3 tiles away onto a hill tile, and then move between 2-4 additional tiles, *pillaging for free with every move*. On roads within your empire, they move twice as far if your roads are on hills. They can *keep up with your navy*.

This is, without question, bad-ass. I have no idea why people hate on Denmark so much.
