according to our military advisor, we are strong against the 4 known civs. :goodjob:

Agree on the catapults, we need many more.

At first I was bothered that the FP build was stopped, but it makes perfect sense because we can rush it. As long as we're are decently comfortable (I think this might change soon, as we are now warring vs. MA units with only 2 catapults), should our next MGL rush the FP or Heroic Epic...or another army? Tough choice if you ask me.

As for expansion, I have two proposals for direction because it would be more difficult to keep expanding in all directions without a proper military front. It's a bit hard because our border is so wide/vulnerable. I learn towards #1.

#1. close the gap. keeps strong units in the front against incoming enemies.

#2. circular route. safer expansion for settlers and new cities. divide military strength in half - one part to defend against invasion, the other to clear enemy cities for our cities.

- there are 5-6 units in Erech, so don't attack it - let the army heal. it is escorting a settler. another settler is in Bruck. We need 1 more city for a third army.
- Definitely try to build army next before Heroic Epic beacause now we need cities most importantly. We have lots of Elite units.
- There's a zulu archer in the south. I'll leave it to you to attack or not.
- our western cities need terrain improvement. we need 1 or two more workers.
- There are 3 obvious chokepoints now: the Zulu south, the Sumerian city of Erech, and England chokepoint. They have been relatively easy to hold, but we really need to expand, but not at the expense of safety.
- Great Library in 4 turns!

With the river beside Kufstein breaking movement and the position opening on us, do you think it would be worth it to move forward onto Newcastle to build on the hill tile and soak the attacks from above there? A walled hill pike team would eventually have greater odds against longbows and knights (3/5) than swords vs MDI on grass (3/5.5) or knights (3/5.75).

Of course this assumes them to be a potential menace, which they might not be - MA and no swords or horses yet might mean they'll be there like sitting ducks until gunpowder. We could take that gamble and keep a sufficient (though relatively low) troop count there and keep pushing N and W through more threatening opponents. England would just have to wait until we have time to bother with them :lol:
 
We'll have to check wether Newcastle is a hill itself or not; if both are hills I'd re-settle the same place, if not I'd fortify the current spot and found on the hill.

I was thinking along the same lines as you guys, we grab the choke and fortify there. This will give us the chance to expand in the other directions.

why do you guys prefer swords even for defense they are far kore expensive than spears
also, the fact that we have no fast units is making defense so much tougher

mop up 5 units in the north including 2 MDI's
kill AC and spear in Newcastle, still 1 unit left there

finally manage to raze Newcastle with a badly wounded army, we get 60g

IT Chinese archer suidcides at Bischofshofen
GL gives us philo, CoL, MM, HBR, polytheism, currency, republic, monarchy and construction, we enter MA, then we get mono, feudalism and engineering
English finish Great Wall :(

5. 50BC
lose 1 sword beating 2 MDI, upgrade 2 spears to pike
revolt and draw only 4 turns anarchy :dance:
cities will starve, will set Landeck on alternate unrest

IT Sumer found city next to our planned city

6. 30BC
found Gmuend on chokehill, raze Kissura and found Villach
upgrade a bunch of vet swords to MDI's, we have the money

7. 10BC
beat English settler pair that landed next to Gmuend, 2 more slaves which we need badly
beat a few units here and there, no losses, but no MGL's for a third army too

IT lost of English units near the choke, we can actually close it off with our army

8. 10AD
defeat 4 units near the choke and close it off with army, hope it won't get attacked

IT we become a monarchy, and we lost 0 citizens during anarchy thanks to alternate rioting

9. 30AD
MM again for best spt, beat some units in the southwest, but leaderluck stinks

IT beat MDI on defense, GL gives us chivalry

10. 450AD
another 4 elite wins get us no leader, next MGL should form a knight army

In my mind we should try and settle and expand north, it seems that the land ends there. Then we can expand west, the army is blocking the
choke, better don't open it. we need more of everything, workers, settler, military

We should lower the lux rate to 30% and turn 1-2 of Landeck's citizens to specialists now that the Great Library is built.

Also, I think Vienna is more useful building settlers and workers and military when it can. It has lots of food bonus' nearby and a granary. I am totally for expanding north, but also we have a chokepoint in the east now. That needs to be secured.

Upgrading units now would be worthwhile...not elites, of course.

the choke in the east is safe as long as the army blocks it, English withdrew all their units already

I upgraded all the vet units, not the elites, maybe Leha has more leader luck than me
 
If this is a 1-tile choke, shouldn't we settle that spot and wall it? Of course it will cost a settler and some walling time, but it might be worth an army's use - it's useless atm, beside the fact it blocks handily the choke of one complete civ.
 
actually there is a hill beyond the army that would be perfect as a choke point, since it is also a 1 tile choke. But for that we need to raze the town beyond there. I suggest, once we have another army to raze that town and found our choke point, that will absorb plenty of enemy units.
 
Indeed, I just had a really quick peek and it looks like a pretty good spot. I was just slightly concerned about them accumulating troops for too long, in the case we "abused" of the army chokepoint.

Oxford (the town that is there) is a walled hill however, but on the bright side it's got reg units in it. I haven't seen a lot of vet english troops on my turns in fact. Hopefully it has and will stay that way.

Btw, what is a zulu archer doing in the north :crazyeye:
