MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

thanks to you who posted this video, it might be eager to make my own mod and start making a fantasy mod, however it going to take some time.

EDIT: I think i need to find an older version of your adobe photoshop... the new one... is complex. i have to download an add-on for the .dds on adobe photoshop, but it's useless because it told me that i cannot save it cause the image is not a multiple of 4.

Please back up your videos with the software you use. it's now confusing and i just gave up if i don't got the right software that you just used.

The sound loads for me properly, yet the video cannot keep up and like some of the other posters, after a while the video turns red. I tried managing the virtual memory yet the swf just doesn't take. I've no problems playing swf files from other sources.

It would be nice if the swf files were made available for download. I'm guessing that offline viewing may run slightly more smooth.

I have the same problem. The video get delayed massively and after a while, the RAM demand is making the computer freeze.

Kael, please use something like swf>>avi (it is free, get it here) to allow us all to appreciate your job.

From the FAQ for swf>>avi:

I have converted my swf file to avi, but I get no sound !
Unfortunately, swf>>avi does not convert audio in the current version. Sorry for that... As a lot of users ask us to add this feature, we are working on it. It will be available as soon as possible. Keep in touch !

So I dont think that would work well. But I'd love to convert to a better format if there was a way to do it.

Wow ... these videos are awesome! Great job Kael! :D

For your next tutorial I think you should show the process of deleting current leaders. I have a feeling its more difficult then creating one, with a lot of room for error (like leaving small traces of leader data behind in some forgotten file).

Or you could show creating a custom civilization from scratch. Heck, just about anything would be great!

Added step 4, how to add audio.

I hope the tut for adding units in comes soon
or how to add in stuff without using up a whole mod slot and thus denying yourself of a mod until someone combines a bunch together!

I'm planning to do one on adding units. But merging components is beyond the scope of this series. Its not as simple as providing some steps as it diverges wildly depending on what is being merged.

But hopefully these guides provide a little help toward that goal at least in understanding how the system works.

I found that refreshing (F5) the browser screen removed the red trails, red full-screen blockout, and resolved the audio getting out of synch. Just remember how far along in the video you were before doing this so you can jump back to where you left off.

Oh, and thank you for putting together these invaluable video tutorials.

Welcome to Civfanatics, thanks for the tip!

@moopoo: Yeap, I defintily want to give a python example in one of them.

@GarretSidzaka: that would be nice but the problem is that any example I give on merging components isnt very universal, since you really need the specifics from whatever you are merging. I could give examples of merging the EDU with dales stacked combat. But that wouldnt provide any help to someone trying to merge the big head mod with PLE (or whatever).

Added videos to the first post for how to add a civilization.

Sweet! That'll be a huge help for those of us (I really hope it's more than just me :() That are learning Python as their introduction to any type of programming, just so they can Mod Civ4 :D

And, Lo!, did Kael, god of artifice, did rain down upon the masses manna from the heavens.
All partook, and were satiated, and there was much rejoicing.

This is great.

Have you considered just making the audio portions available, though, for those whose computers can't keep up with the video? (It would be better than nothing....)
