MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

Thanks you for this project, I was thinking on starting and wondering how to...

So long that everyone wrote here to ask for troubles, I have a very noobish one.

For you, it's more the time to read it than to solve... for me, it's kinda enigma.

I watched first link video all lenght rewinding various times to follow each step.

So I created my shortcut in Bts/mod/(name of my mod folder) and edited properties accordingly.

And it worked porting me to the game menu screen with the title I choose for the mod.

BUT the other 2 files? I mean the .ini file and ini.bak file... how do I create them?

In video they appears automatically when you first open shortcut. I did it several times, it opens mod, but no ini files created.

And without them I cannot even start...

Where I did mistake?

Thanks.

I have admin rights on my Vista, I am the admin and always working as admin.

So I think it is something else... any other ideas?

Thanks at all for your kind interest. ;)

No, I told it, start works fine, verified it several times.

Click in shortcut, loads civ4bts, open menu with Mod title up right.

It is the two ini files that do not appear...

Sorry double post.

I had to reboot Firefox for installing gimp & so on and for some reason it reloaded my post window...

End off topic.

Are you sure? Excuse if I seem brutal, but I have no knowledge on modding so I have to rely 100% on you...

so if i see those files in tutorial I fear of it...

But if you do know what they are and what they do, I' ll follow. ;)

Yeah, i'm relatively sure :yup:.
If you're still hesitating, then you can just copy the .ini file from another mod (take the next war .ini), rename it (.ini name has to be the same like the folder name), and adjust the values in there (if you have too).
 that even might be the better solution.

OK, I' ll totally do it! Thanks for the hint!

But one thing isn't clear: which values are you speaking of? If you mean this, I did not add anything.

So I can just copy/paste and rename, right?

If it is so, I can finally go on with part 2 of tutorial... ;)

I don't have the tutorial in mind, i thought there was maybe something mentioned :dunno:.
So if there's nothing else about the .ini file mentioned, then don't worry about what i told you :D.

:yup:

Excellent.

He (kael's voice I suppose) said nothing about values.

I watched it again and saw that it only open them to show off, without changing a line and saying that default is enough for now.

But the files are two: .ini & .ini.bak.

Btw I have to copy/paste/rename both... I found both in the same place (e.g. any mod folder) ?

So I can finally go - I admit I am Very prudent...

Take then the .ini from Gods Of Old.

The thing is, that some of the other .ini files may have some special settings applied, which will be confusing if you don't know about them. I suggested Next War, because there's nothing special in it, but others will also do it.

The tutorial was perfect!! It's a lot easier to see what's going on then to try to piece it together by reading various documentation...

I'm going to create an Amazon civilization, containing all female units and soldiers. Saibotlieh has already put the artwork, sounds, and animations together in his own Amazons mod--but in his mod, the amazon units are upgrades that all players can attain by capturing certain village resources. My mod will be different in the sense that the Amazons will be playable as their own unique civilization.

I have most of it already prepared. Once I figure out how to add the units I will be ready to go.

Thanks again for your help with this!

Welcome to CFC :).

Please show us a screenshot of the folder structure in the explorer, or write it accurately down, because i suspect an error somewhere.
You could also try to take a closer look at it yourself. There's probably somewhere a simple naming mistake, like e.g. that you named the "Assets" folder incorrectly to only "Asset", or something similar.

I'm attempting to follow the tutorial and I'm having some problems. If someone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

I've created the mod folder and shortcut, but when I load it up, it displays the normal menu (i.e. without the unload the mod option; though it does say the mod name in the corner). It also doesn't create the .ini file, and Windows (as far as I could figure out), wouldn't let me create it manually.

Any suggestions I'm running Win 7 x64, if it makes a difference.
