[MULT] Pitboss Worldbuilding Challenge

If you're up for the writing/worldbuilding challenge there is still 2 more open slots. How are you with worldbuilding? Need help? Any civ you want? Can you make the time deadlines?

I can do that, although I can't promise that my writing will be too long. What civs are taken?

Anyway, were you and Heerlo able to test the Pitboss server out? If you need me to I can probably run a test now and could certainly do a test later tomorrow morning (10-11 CST.) I'll add you on Steam shortly here.

We tested it, but I don't know if sillsworth wants to test anymore or not.

You kinda timed out. If I can get the three of us to test something tomorrow or sometime that would be great, I wanna see if everyone can leave and if the game will still work. I hope it can, or else we're gonna have problems.

Yeah, sorry about that. I went away for a little while. I came back to the computer to tell you that I was going to be gone for a little bit, but by the time I got back you had already left.

Edit: Does one computer have to stay running the game all the time? In the pitboss thing it says something about a "dedicated server".

The game should still work if everyone leaves, but I'd be happy to run a test tomorrow to make sure of it.

Though you've probably already seen it, here's the official post on how to set up and play in a pitboss game.

In my experience, if you guys want to write history, I recommend, in wars, not building siege weapons or letting cities use range attacks, and having just armies fighting armies, and if an army in a city area is no longer there, or runs away, that area is "occupied". In peace deals, you can then bargain over occupied territory. Even if you build siege weapons, the occupation rule always makes the games fun, in my experience :)

i like this idea a lot. but if we say there are guards in the city then does it make ok for us to use city attacks or no?

Umm, I've never thought about it, if a ranged unit is garrisoned you could use their attack, but it wouldn't make sense that suddenly, once pikemen enter a city, the city can attack! Unless they start throwing their armaments, but I would admire their dedication...

what if the people in the city are militia? i mean,it wouldnt make sense to do a lot of damage agsaint a professional force, but they could wreck some havoc.

I feel like military is going to be a hard thing to deal with in this format no matter what. Even after 1900 it's virtually impossible to fight a war in a reasonable amount of time in Civilization. It might be better to just write it up as "continuous hostilities." If there's a barbarian razing some of your improvements, say it's a wandering hostile tribe. If you attack an enemy's unit with your unit, call it a battle or skirmish; killing one unit over several turns can be several consecutive wars, like the Punic Wars (of which there were 3).

So basically, just play Civilization as you normally would but translate it onto the page in the most realistic way you can think of.

Also, I like the thing about occupation. If you've got a unit in a hex, you can basically consider that hex to be occupied. Which is pretty cool.
