I frequently play hotseat Civ3 conquests with my son. Everything was fine until I upgraded from 1.15beta to 1.22. Now all the options are greyed out on the multiplayer screen except for "rename". I can't even exit from the multiplayer screen and cntrl-alt-del doesn't work either --I have to turn the computer off. Loading an old multiplayer game crashes the system with a "data error".

I have a standard Dell Lattitude laptop running XP professional. There is plenty of memory and 20% of the hard drive is free.

Attempted solutions: uninstalled C3C and reinstalled. Version 1.0 now gives the same errors. Patched to 1.15 --same errors. patched to 1.22 --same errors. Uninstalled again, patched to 1.15 --same errors.

I searched this forum and haven't found this problem --what's up?? :crazyeye:

I have 1.22 of Conquests and frequently setup / play multiplayer, including hotseat. I have not seen this problem. I'm running Windows XP Home (Service Pack 2).

Sorry

It is normal you cannot load a game of a prior version with 1.22. You need to start a new one with the new settings.

For MP screen at start-up, I don't know... Maybe it is looking for a connection or something... ????

Have you heard from anybody on this problem yet? both my friend and I have the same thing comng up now where all the options on the multiplayer screen are greyed out and you cant do anything you have to cntrl-alt-del to get the program to close.

Make sure you all have the same patch version: 1.22. I've wasted hours trying to play not knowing that...

I sufferred from the same problem twice. It is apparently caused by some corruption of values in the Registry. When it first happened, I did some experiments and was finally able to make it work by restoring my computer registry to the initial state as it was when I installed windows. When it happened again after a few months, I un-installed and then re-installed my graphics driver and DirectX, and it worked as well! Try the second procedure. I hope it will work :)

I have had the same problem - drop down boxes on the multiplayer set up screen do not show any arrows.
I eventually fixed it in my router (Linksys) by disabling UPnP in the router. Explain that!!

Hopefully this helps someone - because it took me 3 weeks to stumble across it!

I am having this same problem and I also have a linksys router... how do you access this UPnP and what is it?

Oh my, I thought the Civ 3 manual says to ENABLE Upnp. I will certainly turn it off now.

I am having a similar issue, I can only rename, and then I just see 'Connecting...' in the place where my leader's name should be.

No one else can get into my game. Although I can play in other peoples civ 3 games just fine.

I can host LAN games, but not Internet games.

Thanks Wallet, I sure hope this works, will try it tonight.

I'm having a problem setting up a PBEM game. Once I select the scenario, select and name the human players and hit Launch...the scenario loads but hangs up at "Assigning team colors". So then I have to do ctrl alt del and it comes up saying Conguests Not Responding, then I exit out. Single play and saved PBEM someone sends me works. I just can't configure and start a new PBEM game.

HAs anyone run into this?

Hey SuperMa5ter, how do you uninstall DirectX? Do you have any recommendations on what programs to use?

FYI I am also having this problem where the options do not show up during MP Hotseat setup, and I don't think my router has upnp option...

Okay, I tried the uninstall/reinstall of DirectX and my graphics driver, but it didn't work. I then unpluggged my computer from my router, and the options show up now! Hallelujah!

Now I just need to figure out how to get to the uPnp feature from my D-link DVG-1402S.

This issue has been causing me so much grief :P

I couldn't figure this out for the longest time but I had the same problem and it was actually DirectPlay that was giving me issues. I ran DXDIAG from Start Menu/Run and under the Network tab it gave me four DirectPlay8 errors. I have DirectX 9.0c installed so I couldn't update DirectX. All I had to do was type this into the Run box:

regsvr32 dpnet.dll

It solved everything!!

I hope this helps!!
