Post anything here regarding Beyond Earth's multiplayer, whether it be info found, wishlists, or speculation.

So far, we know for a fact that there can be a maximum of 8 players on one planet.

Multiplayer: Up to 8 players can compete for dominance of a new alien world.

As for a wishlist, the main thing that comes to mind are the connection issues and crashes that plagued Civilization V. This MUST be fixed. A nice addition would be some variant of the gameplay formula that allows for shorter games with multiple players (Quick turns isn't enough).

My speculation is that they will have a "Hot join" mode in the game. The reason for this thinking is because it was confirmed that the beginning of a normal civilization game (singleplayer) starts out with the player being on the planet alone fending off alien creatures until the other AI arrive later.

Some of the articles note that in SP you start alone then other civs arrive in about 40-50 turns. That way it is you versus the environment at first. I would assume that all human players would start at the same time, giving the game a different dynamic than SP.

What if there was a window to hotjoin the game after it had started (with appropriate bonuses for balance of course, a better-prepared expedition)?

It would be interesting if even in SP you have the option to start later... get an additional start bonus but face an AI that has already built up.

Let me guess. AIs wont be able to contact human players and everything will suck?
Im content if the game dont out-of-sync back to desktop EVERY turn though. Like in Civ 5.

I dont really expect much at all.

If anything.

Now that would be interesting. Start earlier and establish infrastructure earlier, or start later with more techs from the homeworld?

Since they use the Civ5 engine, I'd imagine that they'll have a headstart in polishing the technical side of things.

I'm curious about the delayed start. I wonder if it's just to ensure no contact until a certain point in the game. If that's the case, there's other ways to ensure that in multiplayer. Either way, I suspect they'll find a way to help ensure it's balanced. My guess is the preference will be for everyone to start at the same time, so I think they'll at least allow that as an option.

I would love a robust MP option in Civ:BE but sadly my guess is it wont be any different than what Civ5 had to offer. Maybe the guys at GMR (or someone else) will take up the challenge if that's the case.

I'm hoping they do have the resources to improve MP, but I'm not betting my hard earned money one it. They can not just simply improve the current MP code which is actually based mostly on Civ4 MP code, they have to start from scratch, and rewrite it with a modern system based on good use of Steamworks API's, with proper data-checking but not excessive. They have made a leagally binding statement in saying 8 players though....and that is more than Civ5 can handle now on average internet games.

Legally binding? Come on now, games drop features all the damn time.

And you could sue them for breach of contract if you cared too. The game license works both ways. Companies do have their lawyers review what they say the game will do before they go advertising it on the box etc. Civ5 for instance was much more vague, it only said it would ship with MP, with no particular statements about the quality.....

Civ5 multiplayer became unplayable on huge maps after awhile for me & my friends. The rest we could handle with some curses and reloads thrown in. Hopefully MP can handle max AI players/huge map this time.

Has this ever actually happened, or is it some feverish dream of gamers who are convinced they are entitled to dictate the development of a product?

Let's face it, C:BE will be extremely flawed when it comes out, and will never be fixed after a full dozen patches. I expect some fun play and eventual disappointment. It does not mean that I expect to be allowed to sue them.

This might be the case if you'd actually purchased the game. As far as I'm aware, no-one has yet. The statement would only be 'legally binding' if continuing to be held out as true at the time of sale.

Yep. Otherwise, there's no contract.

I was leaning forward and making the assumption that I was speaking as a legal owner of the released game, with said statement still on the box as a feature.

I think it was already asked.. State one case, just one, that this approach has even been submitted, none-the-less accepted by the courts as a valid case.

This is ignoring the scores of ways legal moves can be legally thrown out or canceled from moving forward, etc.

I would guess that if at least as much as was spent in development of this game finally made it to the legal companies and courts that you would get a judgement. And then you would get your _proven_ purchase price, or 5 bucks, back, which ever is less. That is the real way courts and suits work guy.
