Really hope it's true, it would be great to keep hope alive for Louis XIV or Nzinga for Kongo
What if the Aztecs aren't a pre-order bonus... but Monty is? I'd say the chances are slim, but it would make some sense as far as pre-order funny business goes. Reveal Monty as an initiative to pre-order, get people to assume that's the only way to get the Aztecs, then end up bundling them into the base game anyway but with a different leader.

They did for 2 and 4, so it's not unbelievable they'd do it for 6 as well.

But because multiple leaders are not confirmed, I argue that it may be intentional deception which implies the only way you'll get the Aztecs on day one is if you pre-order, even if that's not true. It's still a valid point against my little hypothesis, but forgive me for not trusting what game devs say up front when we don't have all the answers.Ummm no. They already listed off the bonuses that come in the pack and it includes the Aztecs
Nezahualpilli or Acamapichtli would be interesting choices.Who else would lead Aztecs?
I should clarify what I mean. Yes, the Aztecs are technically in the base game from the start, just locked, but I'm not sure if that counts as being one of the 18 base game civs. I would find it odd if they said that the base game was going to have 18 civilizations and then lock one away for three months. It would look bad on their part, so I postulate that the Aztecs are the 19th civ in the game, so if you pre-order, you'd get 18+1. This is assuming that we don't get an Aztec leader aside from Montezuma I in that 18 civ list. They technically aren't a preorder bonus and they ARE in the base game. They are just unlocked at day 1 if you preorder, otherwise they unlock on day 90. But they are still a part of every base game.

I highly doubt Firaxis would be that silly - that'd basically be a middle-finger to those who actually pre-ordered because of the Aztecs. But because multiple leaders are not confirmed, I argue that it may be intentional deception which implies the only way you'll get the Aztecs on day one is if you pre-order, even if that's not true. This is, I think, the chief argument against it being real: I have a hard time imagining why they would have kept such a key (and oft-requested) feature a secret. So the question is, if indeed they plan on multiple leaders, when do you guys think they'll just have to tell us?

I think it would also explain why they have been extra silent about what's on the deluxe edition.
The only reason I can think of is if they don't have the multiple leaders at launch. There's a stigma against announcing DLC before a game even releases and they might end up with a horde of people protesting the game due to the perceived slight. This is, I think, the chief argument against it being real: I have a hard time imagining why they would have kept such a key (and oft-requested) feature a secret.
Yes, you have something here![]()
It would also be a win/win situation for Firaxis TBH, Alexander is not the leader of Greece? ooh but with this "Conquer Persia" scenario you can play as Alexander... Napoleon not the French leader? look what I have here, a Napoleonic Wars DLC.
Prepare your wallets people.
