Multipolarity II - Game Thread

The Sultan would like to offer New Babylon an embassy in Samsun to increase diplomatic relationships and quicken the formation of a trade agreement. He says that he wants to help promote increased friendly relationships with the middle eastern nations (Crusaders do not qualify as they are western).

As promised before, London collapsing now. Say hello to the minor NPCs of ... I dunno. I'm too lazy, I'll let Thorvald handle that. I'm just calling them Oceania and Brotherhood England for now. North and south respectively. :p
Did you say, north and south?

Technically this is Kinich's decision; he has merely PM'd me that he wanted them to stop calling themselves Twilightopia after I told him of their defection. :p
Well I sure as hell didn't hear anything, so it ain't canon in my book.

Sanctifying Satan
Why the Chinese Empire's rising nationalism is a threat we can't afford to ignore
By Victor Karađorđević

Something is rotten in the Chinese Empire.

Ever since its declaration of independence, the breakaway state has attracted a wary eye from the international community. In its early years, Chinese Federalists commonly denounced it as an autocratic sect, polemicists painting it as a sinister cabal of individuals so deluded by the myth of the ancient monarchy's power politics that they had lost all sense of reality. As time went on and the state stabilized itself, the more extreme views gradually mellowed. But there was always the sense that some brooding infection lurked just beneath the public skin.

That plague has now bubbled to the surface. Whomever is in charge of the Empire believes the global memory has sufficiently faded to reconstitute George I as a national hero. Scholars the world over are mortified at the "sanctifying of Satan"; a rigorous propaganda campaign aims to reconstitute the war criminal, not simply as a man worthy of respect, but as one of the greatest statesmen of all time. Universities have been co-opted into the project, and now function as little more than media outlets for the state agenda. The government even put together an elaborate ceremony, inviting world leaders to the inauguration of the most brazen cult of personality since North America's Cheppe dictatorship of the 2700s.

The George cult, fancifully dubbed the "Xiang Dynasty" by its proponents, is tangible only if one discounts centuries of study into the turbulent decades of the latter 22nd Century. The numerous atrocities perpetrated by Chinese strategic warfare throughout the continent is posited as virtuous, the scandalous coups, bloody conquests and brutal suppression of China's neighbour states touted as magnificent achievements. That the cult attracts the following it does is perplexing: no mention is made of the policies, adopted and intensified by the monarchy, that sought to systematically destroy Chinese culture. Outside of the Empire, the cult is the subject of ridicule, while India, the rest of China, and the Russian Far East have reacted with indignation over the "blatant and insane" revisionism.

Trying to fathom how devotion to such a thoroughly discredited legacy gained legitimate traction in China, a country roundly renowned for its dedication to internationalism, continues to confound. What can be understood is how the George cult is symptomatic of the global community's continued factionalism. The erosion of UN sovereignty has enabled many similar nationalist cells to wrest control of popular agenda worldwide, perpetuating international dysfunction. But whereas London and Katterland are more focused with keeping the rest of the world out, this nationalist fervour promotes a violent expansionist mindset that poses an immediate, tangible danger to both China and the world.

Take, for instance, the Empire's brazen decree that the Federation from which it seceded was not Chinese, and that the post-Cataclysm countries were nothing more than provinces. Officially, this policy was retracted following a formal treaty with the Union, but general consensus holds that the government merely pays lip-service in diplomatic channels, and can be expected to maintain its supremacist outlook within domestic circles. This is the same attitude that spurred Mad King George to forcibly subjugate the post-Dubliners. Once one is convinced one has a "right" to bind one's cultural brethren to one's own will, open war is a simple second step.

The Empire has already demonstrated its willingness to pursue its policy by the sword. During the Somali crisis, it openly declared it was willing to break a UN blockade by force. The same confrontational, militaristic mindset behind the Indian campaign eight hundred years ago is chillingly resurgent under Otto IV. Considering the Empire's foreign policy has proven widespread failure, war may be the only recourse left to the state, in which case, neighbours must take heed. Military buildup has been rapid even prior to the recent declaration of war against the Soviet Union. One can only imagine whether the Empire's designs upon strategic weapons will parallel the insidious atrocities inflicted across Asia and the Pacific.

The cult brings one new danger to the table not present under George: the issue of humanocentric racism. While the anti-Demon pogroms of the Third Insurrection were never definitively tied to state policy, that a country occupying a region of China with so high a historical Demonic demographic now reports the species as constituting less than one percent of the population leaves little doubt as to national intentions. Even beyond Beijing and Manchuria, China has played host to the bulk of the diaspora, and as Imperial influence expands the welfare of these individuals will be put into question.

George I may have been a madman, but he was a madman with power. His reign of terror was achieved not by his own dubious merits, as his modern-day disciples claim, but by the international community's failure to mount an adequate response to the danger he presented. Centuries later, the blood-spattered standard of the Mad King audaciously flies above Beijing, taunting China with the threat of a return to the violent, destitute past it so determinedly fought to escape. If the international community wants to prevent a redux of that dark chapter of world history, it must combat the tyrannical ideology propagated by the Chinese Empire. Otherwise, the consequences will be catastrophic.

Victor Karađorđević is a scholar of international affairs and professor of political science at Belgrade University. His most most recent book, A Tragic Myopia, chronicles the decline of the international ethic in global politics.

Alright, caught up on RP bonuses.

Sonereal is free to pitch me a few ideas on what he wants his corporate power to be; if I think it's balanced and such I'll craft a country for him and it can go from there.

3rd and probably final RP for this session.

Location: Partitionian Province on the Russo-Polish border

Maarti Ahtisaari strolled down the snowy cobblestone path. Winter was harsh, but the unusually long winter seemed to be finally clearing. He noticed a beautiful red flower growing among some snow-covered debris.

*pluck*

"My, what a gorgeous flower. I think I'll bring it home to Adrianna, my wife.", he quietly murmured.

He began his trip home, and walked up to his home. It was a humble lodge, made with wooden logs, mortar and brick, and clear glass windows. The warm glow of firelight shone from inside, and he was happy.

What happened next was out of a nightmare. Maarti reached to open the door, and a deafening crash rattled the ground around him, and the house.

The log cabin burst into a fiery cloud of deadly shrapnel and debris. He was blown back and went unconscious.

When he awoke, it was hell.

Fire was everywhere. His small community was burning before his eyes, people were being slaughtered. His friends were being executed like dogs, while others were being herded into trucks like cattle, and sent towards Russia.

He stumbled to his knees and regained his vision. To his horror, he wipes blood and fragments of clothing and blond hair from his body.

"My wife! Where is she?"

He ran back to the charred remains of his lovely home. He searched under planks and broken furniture, and after what seemed like hours of searching, he found her.

She was horribly disfigured. Her lower right leg was blown apart, and she was missing a few fingers. He pried her from under the front door, and dragged her into the snow. A crimson streak formed in the snow, as deep and dark as the flower meant for her.

Her scalp was charred of all hair, and he discovered that the hair he found earlier was hers. He figured only about half of her was left.

He held her close, and wept.

Russian soldiers were a dozen yards away, and had witnessed the whole scene. They could not contain themselves, and finally broke out in laughter.

"You...you..you MONSTERS!!!"

Maarti was enraged, and he charged at the Soviet soldiers with everything he had. He was disoriented from the blast, and when he got close to them they simply pushed him over. They beat him over and over, until finally he went unconscious again.

The next thing he knew, he woke up in a foreign land. There was no snow on the ground, and he was in a truck, rolling along into warmer territory. He was in Russian land now.

It wasn't hard at first. They dressed him in new, labor clothes, and shaved his hair. He was in a larger group of at least a thousand. They began the first process of refinement: selection.

They were in a large camp, a few miles out of a small city. He did not know where, but his thoughts were quickly interrupted.

"You, there! What can you do?"

"I... well.."

"ANSWER!"

"I worked in mines for my government. I.. I worked in mines!"

At this, the officer combing through the ranks of prisoners pointed for him to join a group. He went and joined a group of scraggly-looking men.

"Another miner, eh? I wonder why they're roundin' us up like this.", said one.

"Probably to help them get the stuff for them bombs, like the ones our gov'ment made.", said a tall, skinny man.

"Yeah, probably.", replied another from the group.

Maarti learned that the rest of the captured Partitionians were being sent around the USSR. Some scientists began working for the government, and some of the captured civilians and military confessed troop information to the Soviets. All in all, it appeared to be a large-scale assimilation of the Partitionian populace. What horror.

Over the next few weeks, Maarti was eventually sent to an abandoned town. Upon arrival everything was strange. A wonderful, small village was completely uninhabited. Apparently the previous citizens had died in a radiation leak. The stranger thing was that the military had already set up camp around the town before. "It must be here to ensure we extract the ores properly, I suppose", thought Maarti.

They quickly became accustomed to new life. The town was much like home, albeit warmer. Maarti never forgot about his wife, though. He would make them pay sooner or later.

"We're going to get those bastards back for what they did!"
"Let's give em hell!"
"I'm going to cut one open and see if they're red on their insides, like their flag. Har har.. har..."

The small plotting group grew silent at the last one's.. colorful comment, but they continued plotting.

Maarti walked up. "What's this?"

"We're going to kill some of the guards. If we can steal a uniform or two, maybe we can sneak outta this hellhole. Something bad is going down, and I don't wanna be here when it happens."

The rest agreed. Maarti knew this was a bad idea, so he went home.

The morning came around, and the Partitionian prisoners were greeted with three freshly mutilated bodies hanging around the town. They knew any more attempts of escape would be crushed.

Another day passed as normal, but something seemed off. Troops began to secretly pack and leave the town.

Maarti snuck out of his house during the morning and went in the direction of the soldiers. He walked for a good hour, when he could see the village in the distance. It was so peaceful..

He wasn't sure whether to leave into the wilderness, or whether to go back. He could make a life for himself there..

In his musing, he was quickly interrupted. A bright white flash blinded him for a few seconds. He stumbled to the ground.

After regaining his footing, he looked up. A massive fireball was growing around the village, and it was swallowing up people, buildings, trees, and everything else near it. He stood, mesmerized.

He stared into the face of God, and into the face of his death.

After a few seconds of staring, his body began reacting to the environment. Survival instincts kicked in, and he began to run. The bodies of those who tried the same far behind him were still burned into his mind. He ran as fast as he could, but he could slowly feel the heat building behind him. He stumbled, and he knew it was over.

He faced the fireball and he watched as it approached. Within a second, a strong blast of air blew past him and rattled the trees and grasses around him. Within a dozen more seconds, he was engulfed by fire.

Later, Soviet scientists combed the area and began studying the effects of this weapon on live populations. They gathered up samples, and focused on the village. A few scientists, on their way to the remnant of the village, stopped and noticed charred bones over a mile away from the village.

"How did he get all the way out here?"

"Eh.. poor bastard must have thought he could outrun the flames."

"It's a shame he didn't run another mile. We could have studied the effects of close-proximity detonation on a survivor!"

With that, the three scientists let out a jolly laugh, and continued walking.

The Empire of China offers a Peace Treaty to USSR.

We joined only because London was our ally. We have no interest in this war.

The government of Oz agrees, but I would like some Kiwi birds to keep as pet as well.

Kiwis are permissable pets in the New Zealand Colony.

Anyways it is done. The war against Oz is now officially over, with the territories of Oz being formally annexed to Katterland, its people now incorporated as citizens of the same, and with the gracious Emperor Katter now committing to the rebuilding of the eastern provinces.

TV 7 News:

Mr. Dowyuang Hunsin (DH):

HX: Hello again. This is Hungao Xing for the TV 7 News. Our latest news in titles are:

The Union attacks once again the Nation

The Republicans ask for War against the Union

HX: So, let's begin. The Union once again attacks China with harsh words against our nation, our people and by blocking a loan.

DH: It seems that the Union does not want peace. They say that they want peace, they say that the Empire is the aggressor and yet they are the ones who attack every year our Nation. Because the people of this Nation are angry about the Chinese Nationalism, since they are Turks, and the Economic and Foreign Policy of the Government, the Government starts propaganda against the Empire to make the population focus on an ''evil'' enemy and put its hatred against that enemy instead of focusing on the internal problems of the Union.

HX: Can you tell us more about the Union's attacks?

DH: First, they attacked our National Hero, King George I, by calling him ''Mad King George'' and claiming that he was a War Criminal. Then, they attacked again our Nation, by saying that the State is presecuting the Demons.

HX: But, as we all know, the Demons have the same rights as any other citizens of the Empire and they all have Chinese citizenship.

DH: Not only that, but they are blocking the loan of the Empire because they say that we will use it against USSR. However, they did not block Rome's loan, while they are too at war with USSR.

HX: Wait one minute. If, the Union blocks the UN loan because they say that it will be used against USSR, why they do not block and Rome's loan? They are too at war with USSR.

DH: That's what I say. Also they say that ''the Chinese Empire's rising nationalism is a threat we can't afford to ignore. If the international community wants to prevent a redux of that dark chapter of world history, it must combat the tyrannical ideology propagated by the Chinese Empire. Otherwise, the consequences will be catastrophic.''

HX: So they are calling for war against the Empire?

DH: They try to use anything possible to end the peace between our two Nations. They want to force the Empire to declare war, so the Empire will be viewed as the aggressor.

HX: Anyway, Mr. Wang Jing (WJ), Mr. Jung Jiao-long (JJ), Mr. Su Ngan-xiang (SN) and Mr. Xinhuan Chiang (XC) will join us to talk about the relations between the Empire and the Union.

HX: I welcome you all. My first question will be about the Republican calls for war. Mr. Wang Jing, why do you view that war is the only solution against the Union?

WJ: Mr. Hungao Xing, as we all know, the Union does not want peace. They want war. Before the Treaty between the Union and the Empire, the Union attacked China. After the Treaty, they attack China with even more hatred. They ridiculate our National Heroes, they insult our people and our Nation, they block our Loans for no reason, they call for war. Shall we back down?! Shall we endure their attacks against our Nation? Shall we let them block loans for no reason? No. I aks that the Government declare war now! If they are too afraid of War, I call for elections so the people decide if they want war or not!!

HX: Mr. Xinhuan Chiang, what is the democrat opinion on the matter.

XC: Well, my opinion is that we should pursue a Diplomatic solution to the problem.

WJ: Because your diplomacy has paid off.

XC: Mr. Wang, it is my turn to talk now.

WJ: Talk about what? After the Treaty and you famous diplomacy, that you say that it solved the Chinese problem, the Union attacks our Nation even more! You are a traitor to the nation.

HX: Mr. Wang, please calm down. Mr. Xinhuan Chiang, we hear you.

XC: Well, the Treaty may have not solved yet the Chinese problem, but it improved the relations between the Union and China.

WJ: That's why yesterday they said that ''the Chinese Empire's rising nationalism is a threat we can't afford to ignore. If the international community wants to prevent a redux of that dark chapter of world history, it must combat the tyrannical ideology propagated by the Chinese Empire. Otherwise, the consequences will be catastrophic.''

XC: Well, as I said it did not solve the-

WJ: But they blocked our loan for no reason. I am sure that the relations between the Union and the Empire improved.

XC: It is my belief that a diplomatic solution will be the best. We must not allow the Union to point the Empire as the aggressor. Of course, that does not mean that we will not prepare for war. We have deals with other nations about modernizing the Army and we will develop weapons to make sure that the Empire is not attacked. But we shall not use Military Force to solve our problems with the Union. So many years we managed to develop our nation without loans. We can survive and without loans.

WJ: It is not so much about the loans, but about the calls of the Union for war against the Empire.

XC: I can assure you that the Government will destroy any attempts by the Union or any other country to invade the Empire.

HX: Mr. Jung Jiao-long, what is your opinion on the matter?

JJ: We of the Communist Party are over with the Nationalism and we believe in Internationalism. However, we are worried about the threats of war against the Empire by the Union and the block of the loan. We do not believe that a Military attack is the solution of our problems, but we should built up our Military to make sure that the Union will respect our Nation.

HX: Mr. Prime Minister, what is the official policy of the Government?

SN: As Mr. Xinhuan Chiang said, we will try, through diplomacy, to solve our problems with the Union. About the loan, it was an important part of our budget, as it was going to be spend on more welfare. However, we shall cut some money from the Army to use those money on welfare.

HX: I thank you all. So, with this, we end our News. We will see you in 6 hours again. Until then, have a good day.

I honestly don't care about anything other than the green grocer's apostrophe and misuse of pronouns.

In order to improve the relations between our two nations, we propose a student exchange. 40 Imperial Students will go for 2 weeks to study in your National University, while 40 Union Students will go to Beijing university to study for 2 weeks. What do you say?

PM'd you power idea. Forgot about the country part.

Do I really need a country? Ideally, OCP would be a floating company without defined borders beyond the buildings that make up our branches.

On another note, if I am allowed to build branches, would the system still be 1*Profitability?

The HQ of OCP can be allowed to reside in Beijing.
