Cathisis: No one wants war, especially not in this holy time for peace, love and cats to get dressed up as Santa. As the primary concerns of Canada is the unification of Canada rather than the exploitation of resources in Newfoundland and since both sides wish for peace, here is a proposal which I believe that please everyone:

-Canada will gain control of Newfoundland
-Canada will remburse Manx for their expansion there
-Canada will allow priority of Manx coroporation inside Newfoundland for Oil Drilling, Mining ect. (OCC: All resources found in Newfoundland will go directly to Manx)

If either of you reject this proposal, not only are you going against the intrests of peace but you are muddying a sarced time for us Spammer's. And we will not be happy. Now, back to celebrating.

:culture: Oh Catmas Troy oh Catmas Troy... :culture:

As casual observers of the Canadian-Manx diplomatic conflict, we advise to take the Spammer compromise as a fair way out of this tricky situation.

Tropico also advocates the Spammer's compromise. We will not look favorably on those who ignore it without a good reason.

Summary

The Union of Nations’ first year has been quiet; the Manx Imperium proposed to the Secretaries that nations not be allowed to use human rights or ideology as casus belli, but Tropico, as General Secretary, vetoed such.

Tensions have flared in North America, with Canada on one side and Manx on the other. Solitude has voiced concern over Canadian aggression, which has also extended towards Cascadia. Many states have voiced indifference, but others, such as Algeria, have begun giving passive financial support to certain factions. Namibia, suzerain of a very powerful alliance, has given support to Canada, making many fear a possible world war. Some blockades have resulted from the dispute, but fortunately no shots have been fired.

By contrast, the war in Asia has ceased, with Malaysia’s agreement to reform borders accepted by Singapore. Singapore, making use of reclaimed personnel and factories, has become the world’s greatest industrial power, while also renaming itself Indonesia to prevent irredentism. Faced with movie night with Lord Ghirahim every weekend for a year, Malay’s highest-ranking general’s screams were not heard over the sound of Estefan Meier’s Crepúsculo played at maximum volume.

All over the world, the Romnesians make their presence known. No less than twenty-one states were offered alliances and lucrative trade agreements with Romney; only twelve accepted, however, when faced with competing offers. Regardless, the Republic of Romney has made itself known as a power with great clout in international trade and diplomacy. Romnesia’s economic strength is so great that even a disruption to their stock market by outside agents did little to make the giant stumble.

The Shimazu have rechristened themselves Japan, expanding their power into the Asian mainland via their new vassal of Tsingtao. Seen as the most powerful nation on Earth by many, they have remained quiet, making many anxious.

Algeria remains a tax haven, with the lowest overall tax burdens in the entire world.

Events

Low tax rates have spurred investment in Algeria.

Due to sharp tensions, enlistment has risen in Cascadia, Manx, Namibia and Canada.

Rancor over Manx’s open selling of weapons to both sides of a conflict has resulted in India, Finland and Argentina decreeing Emperor Gilmore and his representatives persona non grata. While no embargoes have been issued, it has been stated that no offers of alliance will be accepted.

A disease that kills primarily people of Hawai’ian descent has swept over the world and destroyed the Hawai’ian Empire. Many condolences are due to the Kiwi Royal Family for the loss of the family married into them.

Malay has faced another disruption of resources; a mine has blown up and will take some time to repair.

In better news, Malay’s birth rate has shot up some, making them the world’s most populous nation.

Piracy

55 ships targeted. Hyontou has lost 10 ships. Namibia has lost 10. Aiyo India has lost 10. Oman has lost 10. London has lost 9. Iberia has lost 6.

The Pirate Confederacy offers a deal to the nations of the world: they may pay an amount equal to 10% of their trade vulnerability to guarantee no attacks, or they may alternatively pay the ships (at a rate of 1 gold per vessel) to attack enemies. The Confederacy states that it will only attack defenseless ships.

Unrest

A coup in Afghanistan has brought democracy to a despotic region, whereas coups in Uruguay and Guangdong have seen tyranny displace democracy.

No bonuses will be given on the first turn; winning a category normally bestows +10 Influence (will be adjusted as the game goes on).

Build one navy and put the rest of our money into armies.

Attack all unowned territories adjacent to our current holdings, including ones in the United States.

If possible, attack any other unowned additional territories in Canada.

Whoa, thought you were limiting yourself to Canada. Solitude won't be neutral for long I suppose.

Expansion

Legend:

I have used lighter colors for nations neighboring me, suggesting where they expand.
Orange represents my expansion, pink represents my future claims, and the red bars on the ocean are "defensive blockades".

The Defensive Blockade simply means that trade ships may enter, but colonizing ships (other than mine) may not. I will rule the Ivory Coast!

(Of course you may attempt to break it, but I would strongly suggest against that)

We ask that Canada refrain from taking Michigan, It is part of our Sphere of Influence. Calming it will be a sign of aggression on the part of Canada.

Mitt Romney: A Public Announcement

owIqY.jpg

"Greetings, friends. I have an announcement. As it is publicly known, the Republic of Romney wishes to strengthen itself through nonviolence and peaceful relations. As such, we have built up a large framework of friends and allies throughout the world.

I proudly announce the clients we will be purchasing in the coming year.

Argentina
Guangdong
Chile
India
Finland
Uruguay
Afghanistan
Xinjiang
Baluchistan
Brasilia Combine

If a nation feels that they wish to acquire one of the above clients as well, the Romney Republic will be happy to drop out of the 'competition' in return for a small fee.

Thank you, and God Bless!"

Solitude White House, West Wing
A courier rushes through the halls of the West Wing in the Solitude White House to meet with President Antilles. Almost out of breath the courier hands the President a notice to Hanna. "What could it be this time that's so urgent." Hanna reads over the notice, including Canada's ambition to encroach into Solitude's Sphere of Interest. "Why that..." she crumples up the paper in her hands. "First they challenge the Imperium of Man's claims on Newfoundland, now they have the audacity to encroach into our sphere of interest?! They even have the nerve to state that they're using them as bargaining chips!?" Hanna then sits herself down onto her chair. Hearing the commotion, General Isaac rushed in.

"Is everything alright, Ma'dam President?"

"Take a look at this" Hanna tosses the crumpled paper into General Isaac's hands "The damned Canadians are encroaching into our sphere of interest."

The General uncrumples the paper and takes notice on Canada's latest announcement "Attack all unowned territories adjacent to our current holdings, including ones in the United States." The General lowers the paper "My God, it's like they want us to get entangled in this whole Newfoundland affair. By trying to piss us off by calming territories within our own sphere of interest!"

"I'll send a stern message to Canada to refrain from encroaching into our sphere of interest. If they won't back down, then we have no choice but to go to war against them."

"Ma'dam president, were not in any position to wage war against anyone."

"Were going to have to mobilize then, should the inevitable happen. Apparently their statement on only expanding solely into Canada was just a lie. They've already managed to piss off the Imperium of Man and they've taken note of their aggression towards Cascadia." Hanna touches the globe that's on her desk "The Canadian's policy of irredentism is only going to go so far before this region of the world erupts in a powder keg." She then points to the countries on the globe "Cascadia and the Imperium of Man are facing Canada's irredentism. If things get heated, we may have to side with the Cascadians and the Imperium of Man. They've already forced our hand when they made their announcement on crossing into our sphere of interest."

"Ma'am, I'll see to it that we have our forces mobilized at the ready. We may have to institute a conscription program." General Isaac stands at attention "I will ensure that our conscripts will gain the same training as our professional volunteers."

"It's times like this, I never expected to institute a compulsory conscription program like old Israel had, but now with tensions flaring. I don't want to get caught off guard."

"The good news is that were starting our expansion into the old Hawaiian kingdom in Hawaii and Southern California. I've made sure that our scholars and historians are with them to document the history of the lands with great care and respect of the fallen kingdom."

"Given that were going to be soon-to-be neighbors with Cascadia. I would like to seek open trade with them. It's the least we can do."

Niagara Falls

In a cold night, Colonel Autumn stood in position on the American side of Niagara Falls. With binoculars in hand, he observed every movement of the Canadians. He then lowers them "The Canadians claim that they are for peace, yet they are willing to be agent provocateurs not only by pissing off the Imperium of Man but also by crossing into our sphere of interest." Col Autumn looks into his binoculars again and looks towards the northwest.

Lt. Hank stood next to him, then made a remark "It seems that the Canadians are hell bent on wanting Newfoundland."

"yes, yes, Canadian irredentism. They seem to not accept the fact that Newfoundland was claimed first by the Imperium and the Cascadians are a rightful nation in it's own right. Yet they can't help but piss off other nations in the process." The Colonel puts down his binoculars and turns to his Lt. "I can tell you right now, if Canada doesn't back down. There's going to be a whipping party on Parliament Hill."

Tropico announces that it will back Solitude in this. Canada has shown it's hypocritical nature by demanding Newfoundland and then taking parts of north america away from Solitude. They are clearly in the wrong.

Annual Plenary Meeting of the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition: Rome.

B_Gregor_IX2.jpg

~ an artists depiction of Pope Pius XXV excommunicating heretics

-

The Palace of the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition was one of the most beatiful places in Rome, beautiful not merely in the material sense of the sublime and ancient artworks that adorned the place, calling the mind to the sacred work that occured within its walls. No, it was beatuful in that it was here of all places where those most detestable of men, heretics and apostates, were purified through mortification and true teaching and brought back to the grace of God and His Church. Today Inquisitor Enoch was particularly attuned to the beauty of this place as he walked towards an audience, along with other high ranking Inquisitors with the Secretary of the Sacred Congregation, the Pope himself.

-

... "Your Holiness, If it pleases you, there are three topics of discussion on this hour, the persistence of the philosophical error of liberalism, the hostility towards divine religion recently showed in Namibia, along with its associated hostile actions towards the heretical nation of New Zealand, and of course that particular matter which you are all aware of and which Inquisitor Enoch in particular shall speak"

High Inquisitor Ximenes was such a droll speaker. His Holiness waved a hand and he continued with his monotone.

"yes.. Well as you know liberalism persists in its effects, notably in the apostate nation of Solitude, but more pressingly within Europe itself. The Modus Vivendi of several nations rests on certain philosophically liberal undertones that risks a repetition of the errors. With our newfound influence it may be possible for us to ensure a restoration of a Catholic order in those nations through whatever means works..."

"Organic development and influence on the cultures of Europe should suffice, so long as they remain in our sphere. We consider changing systems from without, save in the most extreme cases, counterproductive"

The Pope as usual was the voice of reason

ah yes... well continuing on to the communist heresy, Namibia in particular has shown itself to be hostile to divine religion, even if it was made manifest in hostility towards the Empire of Mann.

*some smirks appeared in the council, Mann although faithfully Catholic had gained a reputation for having poor prudential judgement in its public statements and actions.

It would be scandalous for the Holy See to remain silent on the matter of addressing communism, and in particular Namibian hostility to peace in the world and to the right of ordering of human endeavours. What would His Holiness suggest our action be...?

Retain the Embargo, and urge our allies and clients to do the same. Let us be an example to the nations of the earth, perhaps God will compel other nations to follow us, and make Namibia taste the true rotten fruits that fall from faithful adherence to its own erroneous ideology.

Yes, good, ah Enoch, your the expert on the final subject, I hear your treatment of the pair of heretics found in Iberia was most adept...

*Enoch smiled, His Holiness nodded and standing at his place Enoch waving his fist began.

"Your Holiness, the heresy of which I speak has spread its tentacles across the face of the Earth, and now poses a threat to the stability and order of the world, while the world blindly looks on ignorant of what is coming, waiting for the coming fire like deer before the headlights of a land-freighter.

The heresy I speak of, is the error of...."

meanwhile two heretics sat in a cell in the basement of the palace, a cell filled with the unending light of divine mercy as the meeting continued far above.

Regarding the Canadian War..

Romney tells Canada to back off or they're be trouble.

Dropping this out here:

Bengal, Russia and Cascadia will likely be purged at turn's end. I will be sending messages to them.

Given that it's finals week for me, and probably the rest of you, I will not be locking orders until December 14th. Unless I get all orders in by then. Feel free to send a general guideline.

When in doubt, remember you don't NEED to specify how much raw material / energy use is in your plans. I will allocate that automatically for you. Any shortages will be paid for by taking out debt, though.

His Imperial Majesty, Gilmore Flanagon, issues that Newfoundland is to remain Manx. We refuse to surrender this symbol of our industrial might. We suggest Canada seek not the aggressive path, for that will lead to destruction.

In relative news we have our claiment plans for the year. As noted Australia will find its Western half be of the Imperium. This will be the last colonial claiments of the Imperium in Australia. In relative news we will enshrine our holding in West England.

Imperial Claims.png

In relative news the Emperor is to send a diplomatic party, headed by the Prince Bishop of Peel, to Canada in hope of convincing the goverment of Canada that it is in the interest of Canada to permit the Imperium to hold on to Newfoundland. Newfoundland is but a single province after all. The Imperium wants peace... and we have a logical position to hold on to Newfoundland.

Finally we are to exploit the uranium in Australia for our industrial purposes. The Emperor wishes a building program to show our industrial glory, a glory protected by our forces!

By the grace of God we heed the Pope's observations and will commence considerations of their notice.

May God judge us in these harsh times!

To the Imperium of Mann

-

The Holy See is glad to here that the Manx and their Emperor will be taking a more prudential approach to international relations as per the papal notice of displeasure at the current state of affairs in regards to the manner of Mann's engagement with the rest of the world, amongst other things.

~ Pope Pius XXV.

-

ooc: ergo, good to hear you intend to take my advice and act less antagonisticially in your engagements with people, as compared to dealing with real issues.

Cathisis: Why, Manx, why? We proposed a perfectly acceptable compromise, one which would actually benefit your nation. But instead you wish to cause a war over a tiny scrap of land!

Mind you, Canada's reaction hasn't been much better. Frankly, expanding into the USA is a dick move and you have thrown such a fuss over such a small piece of land. I would support Manx right now if it weren't for the fact that they're reaction was worse and that they have horrible anti-Spam laws. Unfortunately, I have not choice but to embargo both Canada and the Imperium of Man until the time arises that they both come to the table and hammer out an agreement resolving this crisis. Hopefully this will happen before Catmas, because mine has been truly awful.

This lolcat explains my mood perfectly:

OCC: That's not a personal attack against Ghostwriter or Alied, he is insulting the leaders of both Canada and Manx for what they are doing here. Not you guys. :)
