Multiverse

I'm also getting a crash when I try to start. I can select all my options but when I click on "Start" I get "Beyond The Sword has stopped working..."
I've tried different map sizes and different number of civilizations. I can play Caveman 2 Cosmos, Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn, Fall from Heaven and others okay. I cleared my cache folder but still did not work.

Key things to try:
--Make sure you are at 3.19 patch
--Make sure you have uncompressed the folder from the zip and have not renamed it
--Make sure you have installed it in the correct path. XP & 7 varies as well as if you installed it from a disk or from Steam (read posts above to find the correct path for all variations)
--Make sure you do not have any of the BUG or BATs module plugins installed (have only been told this and never experienced it myself)

It is one of the above, trust me. I have been running this mod for years with no problem, with friends coming over with monster machines and things I just laughed at and it ran fine.

Biggest problem is not having it installed in the correct path. I have a XP from CD and my path is: C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

Steam install=(driver Steam is on)/Program Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword/beyond the sword/mods

But other flavors will vary.I have very little experience with Windows 7, but I would definitely run the app as an administrator -- anyone else have ideas on running it effectively on 7?

Keep trying and looking at other posts because I truly think it is a fun variant to Civ IV!

Getting C2C was less frustrating (which is misleading as it implies that I had problems trying to install a mod) than trying to get this mod to run (which, a half hour later, I still haven't been able to despite following God Emperor's advice). The game doesn't even start really. It starts loading before I get the lovely "Load Error - GFC Error: Failed to initialize the primary control theme."

I'm also using Windows 7.

GFC error: failed to initialize the primary control theme

First, make sure the mod is installed in the right place.

It should be installed in the main BTS mods directory (default path usually something like program files/firaxis games/sid civilization iv/beyond the sword/mods) NOT the MODS directory found in My Games.

Second, the mod folder needs to be named correctly as the game checks folder names. Please do not change the name of the mod.

If neither of the above work please post in the thread for additional assistance.

Missing Interface

This can occur for several reasons.

The game being played from the My Games MODS directory instead of the main BTS mods directory (default path usually something like program files/firaxis games/sid civilization iv/beyond the sword/mods)

Not being patched to at least BTS 3.17 or 3.19

Sometimes, just alt-tabbing and minimizing-maximizing the mod can correct the error.

Having a conflicting mod in your custom assets (such as BUG or BAT) please remove them from the custom assets and try.

If you are still missing an interface after trying all the steps above you should check to see if you are also experiencing a missing interface with other big user-made mods from the forum (such as Extra, Next War Advanced, Fall From Heaven, Rise of Mankind, History in the Making, etc. etc.) If you are then the problem is most likely not caused by the Multiverse files, but rather something with your installation or custom assets. If this is the case, you are probably better served posting a thread in the Technical Support forum.

If none of the above works, please enable python exceptions. (Open up the _Civ4Config file found in the Beyond the Sword folder. Search for:

; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 1

Set to 0. Reload the game and post in the thread the error message that comes up for additional assistance.

Found the problem. The game, instead of being installed in Program Files (or even in Roaming like I thought it would be) was installed in User->Roaming->2kGames->etc instead of User->Roaming->Fireaxis Games->etc. Since C2C was the first mod I installed (and it installed the same way a CivV mod does), I simply figured the structure had changed with Windows 7 and even with tutorials, I couldn't find the folder because the Complete Edition installs differently.

*sighs*

So yeah, it works. Looks pretty good so far. Thankee.

I have been distracted by another modders great work. Check out his game called "History Rewritten". Very fun and I have been tweaking his mod so that it is similar to mine -- i.e. making roads more worthwhile, changing some resources, that sort of thing.

OK, had no interface, turned off 'Hide Python Exceptions', got Python Exception :Traceback (most recent call last)
I have Windows 7, and I have the firaxis/civ iv/beyond the sword (paraphrased ofc) in a special folder in C:/ instead of program files if that helps. I can run C2C and several other mods.

EDIT clicked OK, got another: File ",string>" line 1, in ? and again another: File "<string>', line 52, in load module, and another file "CvEventInterface", line 13, in ? then the second again and a whole bunch of others similar. I think it hates that i have the game in a non-standard folder
EDIT then it said that it couldn't find the BonusBalancer for the map scripts. Probably file locations again.. it'll be a real pain to change... I really wanted to try this mod.. I hope you guys have a fix easier than moving the Civ folders.
And this

Thanks for any help, Jwitti

The loss of an interface may be due to some version of a bug mod you may have loaded before.

Much of the Python errors have nothing to do with the interface as there is a stream of garbage I need to clean up -- it plays fine but there is some invalid entries in the XML.

I have no BUG except in mods. None in custom assets. I did read what you had on the front page, you know.

Just running through the possibilities, as some players do not read the threads about such. I just recently updated my computer to Windows 7, 64 bit and it does work perfectly fine.

Just to reiterate this is where your mod is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

You are running with all the expansions and at the last patch?

If the mod is in that location, it should work.

No, it's in C:\GAMES\Firaxis\etc
I had some issues installing and it was one of the suggestions (not putting it in program files)

I too was going to do that because I heard that Windows 7 can be a bit nasty dealing with games installed into the Programs folder, but I have not found that to be the case other than in a couple of instances where I had to elevate the permissions on a file.

You could try right clicking on your Civilization4 folder then going to Security and make sure your profile has Full control over the game? Not sure if that will help, but its worth a shot.

Also you could try running the game as an Administrator, but I run it normally without issue.

I really think you should have actual quotes and pedia entries for the techs. I've already started on some quotes.

I downloaded this mod a while ago. Pretty cool if I might say so myself.

However, one suggestion: could there be some ways to distinguish the playable lizardmen from their non-playable barbarian horde cousins? A different flag for the barbarians is a good start.

Just a cosmetic suggestion for the mod, nothing much really.

Thanks for the suggestion. One lesson I learned for this version of the mod is that the "Barbarians" are represented in the Civilopedia. I don't particular like that aspect nor do I like the fact that the there is so much more work needs to be done to just get the lizardmen to appear as barbarians.

I am thinking of rolling back that aspect of the game, returning the lizardmen to just just a civilization that could be played rather than them acting as the barbarians as well.

In 2012 I made a promise to revisit Multiverse, so I hope to have an extended update soon.

Thanks for trying the game out.

Cheers!

Troy

I started playing a different mod, which was a good thing because I have learned quite a bit from it. I am considering taking a couple of steps back and undoing the lizardman addition -- I didn't realize that the Civilopedia uses the Barbarian models for all its models.

Rather return to a more basic barbarian race, and then start adding a ton of cool magical and technopunk (where art is available) stuff to the game.

I may also revert the need for having a specific resource in the game to build a specific building. Testers really disliked that.
