Mump5 - AWD Standard Pangaea - take 2

Pre - turn- Just one MM change, and lux is lowered. And then SCI is raised so that Wheel is in three.

IBT- A barb galley steps on our fish at Niagara Falls, but no riot or starvation. Still annoying. Bad news. Two more contacts in one turn. A yellow and two Japanese red warriors approach.

1. Salamanca worker > spear. Niagara Falls SoZ > cat. Allegheny spear > spear. I declare war on the two new parties. SCI is lowered.

IBT- Archer dies on Cattaragus.

2. Wheel > HBR, 8 turns. Cattaragus rax > walls. I kill a conscript Persian. We have horses under Cattaragus.

IBT- Nothing

3. Salamanca spear > worker. Grand River rax > 'pult. Aztecs make the Great Wall. I lose an archer trying to attack a warrior on flatland. Whatever.

IBT- Bad guys are moving around, and from a glance it looks like we don't have enough spears to cover all roads.

4. Salamanca worker > spearman. Falls 'pult > 'pult. SCI is lowered. I do manage to cover our bases but we're mad overstretched.

IBT- give up time. A chinese appears. And we lose a warrior guarding the ivory tile to another warrior. There's just way too much.

Shame it had to end like this. I'm not up for another attempt. I'm just not feeling inspired anymore and I'm always busy. It was fun while it lasted.

Here's the save if anyone is interested.

I have only won this version once before -the Handy21 game.

We had a good start there, not too many contacts early on, got SoZ and the GLib as well I think.

The thing is we had a team that worked our way up to this and were very good at AW by this point. We had to be constantly aggressive and had a good shape for the continent. First army was before 1000 BC.

Even for me it has been a while since I played deity and am not sure I remember it all.

We could try something similar and win AWD pangea on a small map first - or AWDG Pangea.

BTW, here was the start for that previous game:

Lurker:
I think for AWD the Mayans are a better civ, as the JT is available sooner and has defensive bombardment. With early contacts you need to handle lots of incoming and they can help.

The Ind trait is bit of a help as well at the key first 80 turns.

I propose to put this on hold for a bit. With Own not continuing and the small roster to begin with, I can see play progress slowing even more. Finding starts is not a very pleasant task either. I myself will have a little less time to play in the near future too, so that's another factor.

But if anyone (player or lurker) finds a very good start on Deity standard pangaea, please feel free to let us know. ;)
