I have a feeling they'll have an ancient and medieval arrangements for the national anthem since most of these first listens only show us a portion of the theme.
As with America and Australia's themes they get some very talented fiddlers to do these folk arrangements in the Ancient Era, and I have to say I'm a huge fan, at least as far as the early music's concerned.
Nice discovery! I'm not a huge fan of the theme though; it sounds like something one might hear in a dull musical of the "old days", i.e. a black and white film. It reminds me oddly of a song in the Wizard of Oz (in technicolor!)
That actually sounds really nice in the early eras. The use of fast-paced, upbeat fiddles was exactly what I was hoping for for Canada. Still feel like they should've avoided using the national anthem...
After listening to "The Northwest Passage" I can definitely see where its supporters are coming from; it kind of reminds me of the Parting Glass (which should be a Scottish alt song if it isn't already). It's definitely weird that Canada is the only nation that uses its anthem instead of a popular or folk song. The song is pretty recent, though (but I mean so is Canada in the civ scale of things). Hopefully it'll be included as an alt theme. I actually wouldn't mind more modern songs being used for civs that exist(ed) in the modern era, especially those with a culture focus.
I really liked the Ancient and Medieval themes for Canada. I'm not a fan of using the anthem for a civ, but it might sound nice combined with "Vive la Canadienne". But with the other potential song choices put forward by Canadians here, I think the anthem could've been easily avoided.
That is the only good thing I can say about Canada's theme; it's just well orchestrated, despite the choice of using a current national anthem (O Canada in this case).
Yes, it is worrisome. Soon enough, Sweden's theme would be Du Gamla, Du Fria again.

I actually really liked the Industrial version, with the mix leading into the swelling anthem. To be honest all of them sounded great, but I think Industrial will be the preferred.
I think my favorite part of the atomic version is how it sounds like the backing to Celine Dion singing the anthem. Which I guess is fitting considering the time period it's supposed to be
