National Power Projection

Don't think you could man them or fund them from your defence budget. :p

Nah, they won't man the carrier, they'll tear it down and use the scrap to build a better, faster car.

Well, we have the leeway to increase our defense budget...:p

Not yet my friend, not yet :mischief:

The Royal Navy will be getting two of these in the coming decade (2016 and 2018), they'll increase British power projection by a huge margin.

Note that neither will have a real air wing until 2020, the current French carrier already exists and has an air wing. Also, one of those carriers is going straight into reserve.

The plan is to have one kept in reserve and rotate them in and out of service to enable 365 day coverage of carrier strike. We sadly can't afford to run two of them at the same time but I hope that changes. The first of the carriers is being built without EMALS and AAG but will function as an LPH until 2018-2020 when it enters it's first refit and will eventually get EMALS and AAG (this ofcourse is the line of industry but the government refuse to agree or deny it at the moment in line with the 2010 SDSR).

Both will eventually be CATOBAR hulls but only one is going to be active at any one time.

Presumably the British would pay the Germans to fight for them and win. :D

I think Germany has a better chance against France than against the UK, but only because we wouldn't really need a navy, but that's a moot point.
We're pacifists now and we have all the money in Europe, remember ?

It would be more likely that Germany pays the French to beat the Brits.

The French would wipe the floor with Germany's pitiful excuse for a national army.

Just like they did to the Vietminh
Yeah, because things that happened sixty years ago totally represent the militaries they have now.

I'd better go call Helmuth von Moltke the Elder and ask him how the hell he managed to beat Napoleon the Great's invincible Grande Armee.

Or for a better example, the French may have lost at Dien Bien Phu, but at least they HAVE an army. Not like the Germans, who just produce endless memorandums about the possibility of creating some kind of armed forces.

Another huge French army that easily overwhelmed its weaker neighbours!

It must be comforting to have such a tenuous connection to reality.

Ah, the personal insult. Way to go :goodjob:

Coming from one of the more, objectively, abrasive posters, this made me giggle.

Don't worry about a response, I'm comfortable in the peanut gallery.
