Native American Capital

These are... interesting analogies. I've never seen Macedon described as the Scotland of Greece. Did you pick that solely for the location or was there something else behind it?

I've heard it, or something like it, in a Western Civ class. Our instructor was using it as an example of how the Greeks felt about being ruled by Macedon, somewhat similar to how the Athenians often viewed the Spartans as a bunch of hicks.

Perhaps too oversimplified, but he was trying to condense everything from the Minoans to World War II into a 16-week class.

They were the less civilized people from the north who speak a weird dialect of the same language and live in the hill country.

You mean, like, Canadians? :crazyeye:

Spoiler :
...eh?

Other than the hill thing, I suppose... actually, no. In Canada, society is nothing but the cities and the resources, whereas in america we have rurality... wrong? Cities are generally more civilized... I think america and canada are both civilized up to the highest teir we have at this point in time, so, while they have less influence, they cannot be said to be less civilized....
that was too technical... it was a joke on your part

It'll certainly come as news to the Canadian Prairies.

The analogy is inaccurate. If you think there were no 'civilized' societies among the Native Americans, your knowledge of history is poor. Do more homework on the Huron or the Wyandot. For starters, the 'civilized' Central and South Americans practiced far more ritual bloodletting and sacrifice than any North Americans ever did in their entire history. The most aggressive tribes were from American land, not Canadian.

Also, for what it's worth, lampooning stereotypical Canada is ordinary stereotypical American humor. If you're going to do it, be good at it, because when you're not, you don't sound like a funny guy, you sound like a typical American.

I agree with Sueff. Since Sitting Bull is the leader, and he was Sioux, then Sioux should be the name of the capital if you are going with tribes instead of cities...

I don't mind the American humor about Canada (or Mexico). You just don't know what Canada humor is about the USA.

For a starter, we don't owe the Chinese 2000 billion $.
Also, the % of alcohol in our beer is printed on the bottle. It's high enough that the companies don't feel like they need to hide it.
We're not using a medieval time unit of measurement. 12 inches in a foot, 16 oz in a pound... what is that? My aquarium is 110 L and thus weighs 110 kg. Water freezes at 0 and boils at 100. Is this too complicated?

:aargh:

We had an opportunity to convert to Metric shortly before I was born. But it was "inconvenient" or "too hard" to change. More hard or inconvenient than a system that involves numbers like 5280, 212, 16, 3, 12, and 32? I guess figuring out how to multiply everything by 10 is too much math. :shake:
