Naval City Capture Oddity?

curious if you take a city with a ship, burn it to the ground, then what happens to ship that is occupying city??

What happens now? If you raze a city and move a ship in, does it go back to sea?

Nice. I had missed that before. I wonder if I can weaken a battleship with ranged attacks and then capture it with a privateer.

They should make the privateer only able capture ships of its era or before. If they are going to do that they should upgrade the privateer to commerce raiders and auxiliary cruisers. Just so the look of the ships at least match the times. I don't think I'd like to see Captain William Kidd capturing an aircraft carrier.:lol:

Ha ha! Can you imagine them looking up at that carrier and flying the skull and crossbones.

Hmmm.. I kind of thought Privateers would be unflagged... And thus could operate without you knowing who controlled them. But if they capture other ships... I wonder what the mechanic is there. Do those ships then fly the jolly roger as well? That's be pretty cool. I doubt it's what happens, but it would be nice if it is.

That would actually be a very good solution to the problem of how to preserve the stealth aspect of privateer raiding. However, I share you pessimism on this... More likely they will just reuse the "gift unit to city state" functionality and have the captured ship disappear and then reappear in the capturer's capital a few turns later (explained as "price crew sails it home"). That way you couldn't be sure whether the capturing civ stole the ship or built it. It's not as elegant as that "jolly roger fleet" idea of yours, though.

Of course, the worst implementation, and unfortunately also the easiest, would be to simply have the captured ship revert to its new owner immediately and thus giving away the privateer's nationality. Hope it's not this... :(

The jolly roger idea is not that good. Imagine capturing a low health destroyer or battleship, and then being able to use it against others freely :(
