NC VIII - De Gaulle!

1978 victory:

Spoiler :

So, I'm just building up for an attack on Survy when this happens:
Civ4ScreenShot0075.jpg

The AI's go nuts on each other and I figure this is my golden opportunity to I strike right away and start taking his cities. The war progresses quite rapidly.

Civ4ScreenShot0080.jpg

I cant resist going for that tasty city Hannibal has sitting on the other end of Survy, completely cut off from his army which is raging up with Suleiman and Willem.

Civ4ScreenShot0081.jpg

It turns out Survy willingly became Hannibal's vassal the next turn anyway, so I get diplomatic modifiers again :p

Civ4ScreenShot0083.jpg

I settle in and start rebuilding my new cities and develop the lands fully. A few turns later, all the AI's are at peace again and this scary development has happened:

Civ4ScreenShot0086.jpg

And guess who shows up at my doorstep:

Civ4ScreenShot0087.jpg

Too bad, he picked the city where my army was so I took out his entire stack

Civ4ScreenShot0088.jpg

I go for peace with him and get 700g out of it to boot. A few more turns go by and Hannibal now sets his eyes on Suleiman... which doesnt go that well for Hannibal:

Civ4ScreenShot0091.jpg

I focus entierly on the space race now (Willem beat me to the Apollo program) and in 1922:

Civ4ScreenShot0092.jpg

Few turns later, Survy decided to end Lizzie's misery

Civ4ScreenShot0093.jpg

Next 50 years are without major events, I take up the tech lead, power lead and leave everyone else behind in the dust. In 1970, I launch my SS:

Civ4ScreenShot0100.jpg

15 turns later, victory is mine:

Not too happy with the score, but the AI's just slowed down so much after the 1700s I couldnt tech trade efficently anymore. In hindsight I should have kept warmongering and bullied everyone into submission

I had a lot of fun playing this one though! This one and the Ramesess one have been my favs so far.

I lost this, although I didn't have to.

Spoiler :
Got air power and wiped out Sury, but it took longer than expected because he brough Suleiman and Hannibal in against me. After wiping out Sury, I should have just wiped out Hannibal for the domination. I decided to try for the space race. Unfortunately, Willem snuck a culture win in, mostly because I was dumb and forgot that demanding tribute makes an unbreakable peace treaty for ten turns. I could undoubtedly have gotten domination, though . . . the AI really has no clue how to handle the Jet Fighter/Gunship/Paratrooper combo.

@Bandobras Took

Spoiler :
Hi

Sorry willy snuck in c ulture win on you :(. But next time in sitch like that rem even if you cant decalre for whatever reason you can still just send just max espionage slider on em then send in spy after to spy to keep at least one or maybe all 3 of their big cluture cities in revolt since cities in revold produce 0 culture it will keep em in stand still :)

Hello!

I've been a bit absent from NoblesClub and this board recently, been moving flat. I should really be looking for a job right now  but can't resist giving this game a go... better late than never.

Great looking start, stone+industrious, I'm a bit rusty so I'm thinking of settling on the stone, need all the help I can get!

Update & Dotmap - 1675 BC - Prince/Epic

Spoiler :
So yes I settled on the stone, plan was to get a settler out fairly quickly then shoot for Stonehenge and eventually bag the mids and run a cottage/specialist mix.

Started out teching, Animal husb > Mining > Myst > Masonry > Hunting > Pottery

Initial build was, Worker > warrior > warrior > Settler > warrior > Stonehenge

Popped a few huts which were pretty pants, 2 maps :( then 75 gold.

After stonehenge it was just too tempting to build the great wall and then I got the pyramids (Must stop building wonders) and now I plan to just pump out settlers and grab as much land as possible, luckily this map doesn't feel too crowded for a pangea allthough I'm sure its gonna fill up pretty quickly.

Heres my little empire,

And Le Capital

Anyone else out there still playing this game?

No but it's interesting to see what other people do in it, especially if they decide to tech unlike me =P.

So just me then! :(

I still havn't found a job but I did play a bit more of the game :mischief:. It's actually going rather well for a change, I think maybe settling on the stone was a bit overpowered.

Update - 10 AD - Prince/Epic

Spoiler :
Well I was suppose to focus on land grabbing but I couldn't help but notice that the oracle was still up for grabs and couldn't resist! :mischief: So with the oracle built and Code of laws picked I switched to Caste to go nicely with rep.

Teched down the Aesthetics/Literature path built the Greatlibrary and then maths > calander as I've managed to nab a few nice luxury resources. I have to say the surrounding land here is quite favourable. :D

I've managed to get 7 cities up and running and another settler on his way to an 8th location. Science slider is low but I'm relying heavily on specialists until my commerce cities kick in.

Cities,

Heres the map,

I think I can really go anywhere from this position but I'm leaning towards a war, I need the practice as I'm not very good at it. Construction will be done in 1 turn so I think its time to build Cats & Eliies and go on a rampage.

Bye!

:)

I might retry this with settling on the stone, just to see how the game changes (and if so, I certainly won't repeat my dumb mistake of last time :)).

I don't think settling on stone vs not makes a big difference (I settled in place), since both are power capitols. You need masonry either way to use it so you get a couple turns earlier access to the resource if you settle on it (I had extra worker turns early on so pre-roaded it), although one of those turns of course you lose just moving ;).

IMO settling in place is less of a leap of faith though.

The access to the extra food makes a bit of difference, I think.

I think the crazy thing about settling on stone was the three base hammers you get at size one, I felt like I was playing at normal speed instead of epic!

I steped down to Prince just to see how I would do compared to monarch. The game went a bit too easily to be honest. I REXed well and secured a good portion of land and was able to build The Great Wall, The Pyramids, The Stonehenge and The Oracle so I was pretty much set for going cultural. So I focused on teching the techs that enable important wonders for cultural victory and at on point Surry decided to take advantage of my wonder whoring and lake of military and conquered one of my cities with his knights. But a few turns after that I got some rifelmen and started drafting and kicked surry's ass. From there on I was just going in with 100% culture slider and waiting for the victory which arived in about 1850.

Thanks for the fun save!

I settled in place, put HE in Paris, settled a pile of GGs there, it was an amazing production city. Plenty of commerce sites around Paris.

I settled 2E (6-6) and placed my HE City 2-1 of the starting location. Monarch light and normal felt like Prince difficulty and marathon unit-wise. :D

Just was to lazy to post. I apologize.

That's what I mean, you lose sheep to do it. Or was it pig? I forget.

You trade the deer for the sheep. But you use the sheep in another decent city. Where if you settle in place the deer end up in some crappy tundratown

I'm really enjoying this game, I guess its just nice having such a great area of land to settle peacefully.

A quick update on my game,

Update - 1120 AD - Prince/Epic

Spoiler :
Going well gently building up my economy, decided to join the jewish camp with Hannibal, Darius and Elizabeth, which leaves Sury and Suli as Hindu and poor old Willem as a lonley buddist.

Couldn't resist building a few more wonders :mischief:, got the Apostolistic palace (which is great becuase I hate that thing ), Statue of zues and parthanon.

The game is going well but I havn't really focused on a victory yet (which probably means I'm aiming for my usual space win) I've also been falling back into my usual, perpetual preparation for war but never actually going war, habit. :( so no war yet!

Just teched away Gunpowder for the musketeers and I've got 10 turns on Libralism, I'll probably just pick Printing Press as my free tech, so nothing fancy there.

Some info pics

My empire, settled with 8 cities for now.

Cities, Should see a big improvement after Lib/PrintPress

NC8_1020ad_0.jpg

Thats it, Bye

:)

@Groogaroo

You're definitely playing a stronger game than me, seems I need to work on my REX, its never been my strong suit. Tend to get greedy when it comes to wonders.

Will be interesting to see how yours ends.
