Necessity of a more detailed FAQ

I think there should be a sticky FAQ in "Site Feedback" with a little more detail on technical questions. Feel free to point me somewhere if that already exists.

Another suggestion: It would be good to have a "test"-subforum where everyone can check how certain things work, do first posts, try out polls etc., as it is in newsgroups. Now don't tell me OT is the place to go ;)

Now my question: Somebody said about a poll "this should have been a checkbox poll". What is that? Is that a poll where one can check more than one option?

How do you make those "multi-vote" polls?

That's it for now!

to make multi vote polls its an option on where you post the polls and normally if you look around for things then youll eventually find what your looking for

My point is that "looking around for things" is quite a time-consuming activity that could be shortened if we had a more detailed FAQ, that is, THE one place to go if one has a question.

The "multi-vote" question was actually not that necessary, I thought it would work that way. But there are other things one doesn't know if one is new to CFC, for example the question in your sig ;)

No, seriously. There are some things, even though they don't come to my mind now.

What do you think about the test forum? It could be an invitation for spamming, but the poor fool who posts 300 "test" posts to up his postcount has my pity. OTOH, it would greatly reduce problems in the "real" fora.

BTW, I still don't know how to quote "good", that is how to have the quote between lines _and_ with the originator's name in italics below the line. I know that you click "Enhanced mode" in VB, then click "Quote", insert the copied text, then "Close current tag". But how do you get the name in italics up there?

There should be a multiple choice option when you first post the poll. Unfortunately, if you fortget it, there in no option (even for the moderator) to change it when editing the poll.

[attempting to fix s.c. module, getting hopeleslly entangled in something; the typo is on to me!]

"no option" you mean? thanks, I thought so

You mean like I just did? Use the quote button at the top right of the post you want to quote from. Now I don't know how to quote more than one person in one post without having to use the brackets and all that manually. But I would ony have done that maybe twice. :)

A sticky thread in site feedback about some frequently asked questions about the site and forum is actually a pretty good idea. I will make one soon. :)

TF, while you're at it, how about a new forum? We'll call it the Babe Forum... and we can have sub-forums within for Blondes, Brunettes, Asians, etc... I know AOA will love that sub-forum part... ;) So who's with me? Lefty? :D

I swear I have suggested that before.......:p

SCREW the FAQ...we need this :D

Had one before...didn't work out :)

But you can feel free to try things out....in your mind! :D

But seriously, posting is very self explanatory and polls aren't hard as long as you know what you want it to be about. Those are things that I feel don't need a forum but if TF wanted to bring back the gallery of peanuts it's a possiblity(note: not a suggestion)

What I do is quote someone like what you said, highlight that quote and cut it, then click back and press the quote button on another post and paste the other quote. And if you want three quotes, do all of that and then cut it all again, click back, and then click the quote button for another post and paste the two other posts, and on and on for 4, 5, 6, etc. qoutes. I find that easier than using VB code manually.

Well if you include a weapons thread as well then you would probably get some other supporters.... :p

The formatting commands are pretty easy to remember; These are the most important ones:
bold
italic
underlined
]smallest size
]normal size
]larger than normal size
]even larger
]larger yet
]insanely large
]stoopidly large
^- Largest size -^
]blue
^- Can change color value to make many other colors.
quote
More advanced:
CFC
would look like:
CFC <- click it to go to the main page. Or you can just type www.civfanatics.com and it would look like:
www.civfanatics.com
It is normally a good idea to bold the URL so it stands out better:
CFC would look like:
CFC
I have modified this so that the formatting doesn't work like normal; If you were to type the formatting tags as I have shown them, then the text between the tags would be formated without showing the tags.

If y'all like I could run the FAQ thread, much like Killer runs the Civ 3 FAQ... I'd just need TF or Lefty to sticky it, and also delete questions that get answered in organised posts. The Civ 3 FAQ is a good example of what I am getting at.

Thanks to everyone who has answered my questions and debated the merits of a FAQ sticky!

PaleHorse76, your post has every single possibility of formatting in it! Awesome!

I'm sorry that I haven't looked in here before. I was... errh... going to give you time to come up with good answers/ ideas/ explanations :hm:
