Zhong Ho took a brief respite from his studies to stare at the body that he has grown up loving. The sunlight reflect off the clear blue waters of the South Bridge(1) Sea, creating sparkles that succeeded in clearing his head and keeping his soul from wandering... as it would should he slumber. There were plenty of boats out, as it was the prime of the fishing season. No doubt countless of those boats carried tourists or important businessmen seeking to visit the South Mountain(2) Island. Zhong Ho wished he could be on one of those boats, as it would bring him even closer to mother sea.
“Just 3 more months, and I’ll be aboard the Royal Navy and be in your embrace, Ocean! I promise you this!”
This thought cheered him up considerably, and gave him the motivation he needed to continue his studies that day. Zhong Ho was striving to become a bureaucrat/official of the New Shu Han Kingdom of Guangdong; in particular he was entering the examinations for new supervisor of the naval squadrons. Like the armies, each squadron of the Royal Navy is accompanied by a “Shu Sun”, a scholar who tracks their progress and make reports to the higher levels of the bureaucracy. To do so, however, requires a multitude of tests to be taken, and oddly enough, they included the history of Guangdong as the topic. Sadly for Zhong Ho, it wasn’t the history of the seas and islands that they seeked, but that of the nation. From its birth to the great wars of the turbulent times to the current uneasy peace, Zhong Ho struggled to capture the intricate details they would no doubt use to test him with.
Loyalty Triumphs
518 A.D. Liu Bei, in his enlightenment and limitless compassion, forgave the treacherous Wu (currently Fujian) for their betrayal of this brother. Together, Shu and Wu scored victories after victories against Wei, and succeeded in restoring the Han Dynasty…
End of Peace
686 A.D. The peace was not to last, and all that is together is doomed to fall apart. Poverty and disasters have struck the land and the nation threatens to split apart. With the death of the Ching Zhong Di, the Middle Kingdom becomes the Three Kingdoms once more.
A New Threat
850 A.D. A new enemy appears from the north, and decimated the original northern Han Kingdom. Led by the infamous (in Guandong at least) Tian He Khan, these riders from hell overthrew the Han and created the New Wei Empire, as they claim their lands stretch from far beyond the most northern reaches of the Great Wall.
914 - 933 A.D. A coalition of surviving southern Han forces, led by the Later Shu (Modern Day Guangdong) Monarch… Liu Liang, heroically and miraculously (it IS a history book) defeats the Wei invasion despite inferior numbers… No more invasion of the south was to be launched after this point…
1088 A.D. Liu Bei... Huh!?... zzz...
(1) = OTL South China Sea
(2) = OTL Hainan Island
If the above history is incorrect then it means he was using the wrong history book and failed the subesequent test
We bring greetings to our indochinese neighbours, with whom we have traded with and lived peacefully for a long time. Our princess, who have just recently turned of age, is interested in visiting your nation and we wonder if you will accept her and her envoys in your land?
lurker's comment: One thing that really bugs me about this map is not the new world, but the fact that everytime a non-modern NES uses it, they forget to take of lake volta. Its a man-made lake! It was created in 1965.
I'll take Jiangsu, yeah I am back for the summer
