nero03 SID

About reinforcements in Philadelphia: i don't know how many defenders they have there, if it is 2 spears then a quick attack makes sense, but if they have 4 (which is propably possible on sid) we would not take the city for sure without cats. Attack with slow units usually only means +1 whipped spear, so lots of cats + 5 archers + a few horses can handle that.

Why don't we just capture it? We can abandone it later if we decide to sign peace with america, during war the flip chance only means we should keep a few units idle near that city.

I have to be honest I turned to 1 scientist research because we were researching republic before my turns and there was no benefit to crank up research on it IMO. Currency is still more valuable at this point.

I'd start merging workers into cities if we have enough.

I like Obormot's idea in that you will use a blitz approach on the Ottos and a grind it out approach on the American. Since we may be at the Americans for a bit that appears to be a solid appproach.

I'm for initial blitz on america then slowly kill them with a grind.

On sid, the AI will leave their cities with only 2 units, but they have many wandering around, that can reinforce the city, giving it more like 6 defenders if we wait a turn. I do have more sid experiance than you, which helps for these "statisticical" things :) . On a beachhead city, I imagine the AI will have a galley walking around, and can reinforce LM, but only 2 defenders probably, better than an extra 4.

IMO only things to build are horses and NM's, no archers. We are bankrupted for units support and the only thing limiting our army is support, not shields, so it's silly to build an archer when you could build an NM/pony.

Edit: We should capture it because look at it's culture, it's over 100, maybe even 1000. It will definately flip, and I see no more important cities except the capital which need resettlement badder.

Capture, not raze. Here is a delemna: If we sue for peace, we get currency, badly needed to help with future buys, but we continue to have flip risks. If we don't, we don't get currency. Maybe a peace sign for currency then imediate redeclaration and kill them? Don't think it ruins rep, just might be dishonorable. But isn't honorable play the last thing on our mind here?

Man, WHY do you think it doesn't ruin rep?!

Stay in monarchy. We simply can't afford the anarchy and we're not religious.
I've never attempted feud and really have no desire to try. It may be a useful government for pop rushing culture but I don't see us going for that type of victory.

We may have to go commie later anyhow to steal our way into the tech picture.

What I meant is that feudalism COULD be more useful than monarchy for sid. But first of all, any advanced gov is much better than despoticism, so it's just good to leave despoticism ASAP, and stick on that gov till ... communism. :D Communism is the magic gov, almost too good to be true.

Just another word on feudalism: since pop rush can be used for culture, why not for units?! :crazyeye:

Communism has highest shield production, but Republic has more beakers if managed correctly.

@Own: The best way to avoi mistakes is to use espionage. Look how many defenders they have in the wines city and how many do they have in teh capital, so that we know at least approximately how many units to expect when we come to Washington. I didn't say we should buuild archers, i said we should use the ones already built + NMs with cat stack and fast horses can carry out some special missions on themselves.

I'll be home soon and can play. I won't ask any more questions unless it really matters. I've got hockey practice in the evening, I hope I can finish it.

We have no money for espionage. We also have no archers but one and it's elite*.

ifyan- Declaring early on a peace treaty ruins your peace treaty rep, but when discussing peace the AI doesn't consider your reputation, so it doesn't matter.

I don't know what you mean by "peace treaty reputation", but if you break a deal we won't be able to by hard goods for per-turn goods except in peace treaties. So we would still be able to pointy-stick but we won't be able to trade. I would not ruin our rep so early in the game. But if they have some units in our territory and they cannot move them out in 1 turn, we can sign peace, and then make them declare by booting. Even with this trick you should be carefull: this won't work after we hurt them seriously as they would then agree to leave.

It's a bug. When you break a peace treaty early, your reputation for signing peace is ruined, and only that is ruined. When negotiating during war, the AI doesn't care about your rep, therefore you can break peace rep hit free. It isn't supposded to be like this, it's a bug.

That just means your ability of "pointy sticky research" is not affected, but your trade reputation is still ruined, right? Then you can't buy anything via gpt, isn't it a very serious problem? For example, you would like to ally somebody against another, but you can no longer buy it for gpt, that's very inconvenient ...

:bump: Own?
What´s happening, did we go for America? We need at least the lux.

I´ll be gone for about a week, starting tomorrow. Probably won´t have internet access, will post as soon as I come back.

I agree with Ifyuan. I am dead set against anything that impacts our rep including our ROP rep. You never know when any of these will come into play.

Own you have to plan so go have some fun.
Nero have a nice holiday(hopefully that's what you're doing.)!

I don't think so. If your peace treaty rep is broken, the AI won't give you techs or cities for peace, or will just give you the cheapest ones. In general, it will give you less for peace, even if you beat them hard. And that affects pointy stick research severely.

So, I'd say never break anything. Maybe with the last civ, or for a vital resource, but definately not this early.

2. I find I can lower lux again, and requires a tax, but MP will be on the way to fire him.

3. Cadiz deposes. Damn. Have got 7 horses ready to take LM back. Raze and colonize? Not gonna wait for feedback here, we want to finish sometime this year. WHITE pony to merc.

4. Utica NM to NM, and is now size 7!!! Rusicade, cat to rax. Declare war on Ottomans. Raze (yes, that cities got to go) LM without losing a horse  . 5 horses are on guard duty, and the others line up and can take Cadiz on turn one of the american war, err, hopefully, the cities on a hill. Attract them with an unguarded Carthage. Change PINK from cat to walls, we need the defense to beat the sid stacks. I also send a worker to build a stables.

5. Carthage NM to NM, now is size 12, and has 15 spt!!!!!!!! Theveste pony to NM. PINK walls to cat. Send horse to Oea for crap defense. At least they won't be lured there. Stopping here to take a break, this is really nerve racking (I'm afraid the AI will randomly get an SS victory or something), so I need to relax, will be back in 10 minutes.

COntinue on edit

6. Blue cat to cat. Join a worker to Theveste. Move a horse from the coast defending to lining up for operation seize america. We can attack America on turn 8 or 9 of my set.

7. Nada, except I switch PINK from cat to NM, even though it's unraxed, we need one badly for defense, and the insane sid stacks will get it promoted quick enough.

8. Find out in the GA Carthage will make 30spt!!! Sweet! White NM to NM, Ottomania unloads spear and sword, two elites ready to take care and a vet backup. One elite reatrets, one dies, <insert naughty words here> . Kill one with a horse, then one with a NM, and we're in our GA . Great! Just what we needed! Start on currency, due in 10 while gaining 3 gpt. Next player needs to mine both irrigated grasses by carthage to get it to 30spt.

Thinking about declaring on America. The big question, blitz Cadiz and grind winetown, or vise versa? I decide on blitzing the wine town, and will grind Cadiz. I decclarrarr warar on amerericaaaa (toooo nernervous to tyep crortctly). 1st pony redlines a spear and dies. Second deals no damage and retreats. Next takes two off then retreats. Next one kills. Army has to attack, take Philly [party] . Grind on Cadiz'll be next turn. Don't ally with Byz cause that will overstretch them, and that's just war happiness for america. I capture and sell the improvements for 55 gold. Wines allow me to down lux and up research, currency is down to 8 turns. Next turn I can grind Cadiz with three NM's, an archer, and a big ol stack o cats. We can build the HE, but I feel it's unnecesary, those 200 shields are 6 and 2 thirds NM's, much more valuable. Can be built during peace time. Close my eyes and hit shift-enter.

9. I'm surprised at america's crappy counterattack, just some archers appearing out of the fog going in no apparent direction. France unloads a MDI by Carthage, and a spear and sword comin from otomans. If the RNG loves us, they won't be a problem. Kill all but a otoman sword, and carthage is undefended and can't be reinforced :gripe:  . Tried talking. I guess we just have to pray they don't raze it. If they don't, it can be taken back easily. I'm stopping here. Military allainces make a civ want to talk more, so maybe we could sign one with Byz and see if they talk, would ruin our alliance rep, but better than the capital being razed possibly.

That is bad. I doubt they'll talk to us after we sign an alliance, so i would say just cross our fingers and press enter.

Great news on the front! They captured, and didn't raze carthage! I just pray they don't supply it with pikes on the IBT.

10. Capture Carthage again. Uh-oh, Americans are approaching a poorly defended town. It's not the capital, though, so it starts on palace which can be changed by the next player. Dial up Osman, and get currency for peace and 15 gpt. I raze Cadiz, too many AI units around it to secure it.

Phew! Will have many screenshots soon.

Edit on crosspost: That's just what I did. No alliance was possible, and our rep is valuable. The war is going great, we can totally wipe them's america's off.

Edit2: One more thing, in 5 turns we can make peace with france. Our coast guard is totally exhausted, and more french boats are coming. Maybe we should peace with them early. I hope Theodora is putting her wits and boats to good work.

Edit3: Want bad news? Ok, everyone is up mono, feud, and eng. How will we dig ourselves out of this hole without being able to trade with someone? Make a shot at the GL at Entremont? They're not seafaring, so it's deep inland probably, but we could use our army. Anyway, what I'm thinking about is in the distant future.

I'm sure we can get out of tech hole without the GL. We can pointy-stick america, get printing press and music theory monopolies, etc. We need to get Monotheism and Theology now so that we can research PP. I would start on Monotheism and try to get Theology for peace (if the AI have it, did anybody start Sistine?). I would definitely make peace with Joan as soon as alliance expires. We need those units on the american front.
