Nero05: random deity

Nothing much had been done in my turnset, and so I haven't wrote a turnlog. In pre-turn i have traded techs:
Myst + WM for 134g to Iros; HBR for WM + 3gpt + 64g to Egypt.
Then I just builded many swordsmans, which are ready to attack when peace traty will expire (one turn left)

Roster
Smart - just played
McLman - UP
Nerovats - on deck
Own
Tupaclives
Zyxy - skip until 4th January

Save: Nero05_350_BC.SAV.

I hope we can, MW's can run rings around swords and have the same attack strength. I'd feel a bit safer if we had cats but that force should certainly be enough to weaken the Iroquois, get us a few techs, and shorten the gap between us and them.

On another point, I'm going away on the 2nd of January till the 18th of January so when I come up during that period please skip me. Hopefully this won't cause any problems since Own is back and as I leave zyxy returns

Pre-turn:

Everything looks ok. Check current & possible trades. Iroquois have contact with America & Germany. Both Iroquois & Egypt know Maths & CoL. Egypt is willing to trade Maths for WM, 9g, & 1gpt. Peace treaty with Iroquois is over in 1 turn (we're due to get it next turn).

Move stack of 11 swords N of Cattaraugus.

IT
Iroquois declared war on the Egyptians.
An Iroquois galley crosses the channel to Egypt.

Turn 1) 330 BC
We learn Mathematics. Set research to Currency at minimum (40).
Lux slider up to 20% because only 1 MP left in London.
Renegotiate the Peace treaty with Iroquois.

One sword from the stack breaks off and captures 2 workers roading the incense hill. The rest of the stack moves directly N of Cattaraugus.

IT
An Iro galley drops off a reg archer N of York, then sinks the Barb galley.
London: Sword -> Sword (4)
Nottingham: Sword -> Sword (5)
Hastings: Sword -> Sword (5)

Turn 2) 310 BC
New sword from Hastings kills the invading archer losing 1 HP.
An elite sword attacks Cattaraugus and wins against a reg spear and ...
victorious_sword.jpg

The great leader's name is Edward.
A vet sword attacks and loses to a reg spear taking 1 HP off of him and revealing that he's the sole defender of Cattaraugus.
3rd sword wins but is redlined, and we pick up another slave. It keeps it's harbor set to build Galley (30).
Use leader to build an army in Cattaraugus.

IT
Nothing

Turn 3) 290 BC
Load army with 3 vet swords. Move stack West to Tonawanda.
army_stack.jpg

IT
A bunch of Iroquois galleys come back from Egypt.
One of them drops off two archers N of Cattaraugus, a vet sword approaches from the SW.
Hiawatha fortifies his sword outside of Tonawanda with 2 spears and an archer, but nothing attacks the army.
York: Sword -> Sword (8)

Turn 4) 270 BC
Egypt knows Literature
2 swords take care of the invading archers. Ed the Elite sword fortifies in Cattaraugus.
A vet sword attacks Tonawanda and loses 1HP inwinning against a vet spear.
2nd vet sword loses 2HP vs. a reg spear and takes Tonawanda, sinking a galley in the process. (Cat in 20)

IT
Ed loses & Cattaraugus is re-captured by the Iroquois sword.
A lot of Iroquois units move up from the South.
An Iro Sword kills one of our vet swords outside of Tonawanda.
Egypt is building the Great Library.

Turn 5) 250 BC
Vet sword wins against a reg sword.
Our army loses about 1/2 it's HP killing an Iroquois vet sword.

IT
We lose 3 swords to Iroquois swords and archers. Spearmen are moving into our territory, most likely to pillage.
London Sword -> Sword (4)
Hastings Sword -> Sword (4)

Turn 6) 230 BC
A vet sword out of Tonawanda loses in an attack to a reg spear that is passing by.
Trying to re-organize. We have an army at half strength + 3 swords in our stack, and 2 reinforcements en route.
Trying to re-organize our decimated forces.

Irofront.jpg

IT
An archer comes out of St. Regis, threatening our workers up there, I had a sword hanging around just in case this happened, but with how things were going on the front last turn I started him South. Luckily he's still within 1 move of the archer.
Nottingham: Sword -> Sword
London riots, I wasn't paying attention.

Turn 7) 210 BC
Lux slider to 30%
Our Sword attacks and kills the St. Regis archer without injury.
Kill the 2 invading spears as our stack begins to come back together.

IT
An Iroquois reg sword attacks and kills one of our vet swords.
Egypt is building the Great Library (again?, must have abandoned the 1st build for some reason)

Turn 8) 190 BC
Egypt now knows the Americans and Germans
Hiawatha is willing to talk, but the only thing he's willing to give for peace is contact with either the Germans or Americans, not both, no techs.
A vet sword loses to a reg spear & promotes him.
A 2nd vet sword wins vs. the same sword & wins without taking damage.
Attack St. Regis with our sword up there and he loses to a reg spear.
This isn't going well. The RNG isn't being kind to us at all.

IT
One of our full health swords is attacked by a 2HP sword and loses.
Another Iroquois sword kills one of our 3HP vet swords.

Turn 9) 170 BC
All that remains of our stack is 2 Swords.
One kills the 2HP iroquois sword
The other kills a reg sword and is promoted to Elite.

IT
The Egyptian invasion arrives. A lone reg sword N of Cattaraugus.
A reg sword attacks our elite sword and dies, redlining ours.
A vet sword attacks our vet sword and wins, getting redlined himself.
Hastings: Sword -> Sword (4)
Egyptians are building The Great Library again.

Turn 10) 150 BC
Moving injured sword to safety.
Bringing one reinforcement from the North.
Iroquois know Polytheism & have entered the Middle Ages.
Checking the diplomacy screen, our bargaining position has been weakened. Hiawatha is not willing to give ANYTHING for peace now.

Had terrible luck with our attack. It might have been a mistake to try and hold Cattaraugus & Tonawanda. We didn't really have enough units to hold towns and keep an offensive. The Iroquois counterattacks were insanely effective. We sorely need cats, our worker situation is better with the additional slaves, and Hiawatha should be a bit more limited because the AI doesn't like to build workers.

**********The Save***********

Again we have captured and loose Cattaraugus. Just raze towns, we could settle there later ;)
Another bad thing is unit, that have generated leader - you had to put it into an army, because it can't generate leader again

I would prefer to raze in that situation but I wasn't sure how the team would feel about taking an attitude hit. I didn't use the elite leader in the army because he was redlined, and I felt a full strength army right at the moment was better than waiting for the leader maker to heal.

Just a note to say I'm back. Are we making progress?

Just saw that tupaclives posted he'll be away until 18 january, further up this page. So that means I'm up, and I've got it. I'll play tomorrow.

Do we have a plan? I suggest to build units (cats, horses, swords) and attack iro again when deals run out. Keep war with Egypt phony and make peace when alliance runs out.

There don't seem to be any good trade deals around. Too bad.

Turn 0, 50AD: doesn't look good. Iro are in MA, so will have pikes soon. They are at "remove or declare", so I might sign a per turn deal for currency as soon as I can get it, while it still has trade value. We may have to target Egypt before Iro. The remaining two civs are south of Egypt and America probably, I switch a few builds to galleys, maybe we can find them. Iro and Germany are the top dogs. We seriously lack food tiles, and York needs culture, so I switch it to lib. London has been whipped?

Turn 1, 70AD:

Turn 2, 90AD: Egypt has landed a spear next to Regis.

Turn 3, 110AD: Iro's have an impressive army and enter our lands. Probably they're going after the Egyptian spear, I'll let them. Washington gets the GLib.

Turn 4, 130AD: Iro's have 3 swords and a spear near London now. Iro archer has damaged the Egyptian spear, and our sword kills it, promotes to elite (1-0). Let's see if the Iro forces turn back.

Turn 5, 150AD: Egypt has landed a spear and sword near St Regis, so Iro's continue north. It would be nice if these guys could attack each other on their own lands... America has traded Lit + gold to Iro for Currency it seems. I kill the Egyptians without losses (3-0), getting another elite. I could buy currency for about 13 gpt + 140 gold, but I'll probably just get 1 tech for it from Germany, so I'll hold off. Make a block for the Iro troops.

Turn 6, 170AD: Iro have started ST in NF. Earlier than I hoped :(. I'm a bit at a loss what to do. Our attacks on the Iro have been unsuccesfull sofar, and when they get pikes it will get worse. I think we may have to target Egypt first, but then we need a few boats. In any case we'll need catapults, both Egypt and Iro have large cities.

Turn 7, 190AD: Egypt lands another spear. Iro forces still turn back, and they show up with some pikes.

Turn 8, 210AD: Egypt lands a sword. Germany also has currency now. Kill the Egyptian spear and sword, no losses (5-0), promoting 1 sword to elite.

Turn 9, 230AD:

Turn 10, 250AD: one of our galleys starts a suicide run off the Iro east coast.

notes:
- York will get a chop in 2 turns, and culture expansion shortly after.
- micromanagement is needed every turn, we need tilesharing to get maximum benefit from our small empire.
- Iro have pikes, beware. It may be better to attack Egypt, as they are weaker and have good lands. We have some boats on the east coast. In any case, this game isn't going very well.
- There are 2 boats down south for suicide runs. Hope and pray that we find someone to trade with.
- We're paying 6 gpt unit upkeep already, so it's about time to start a live war, otherwise we run our economy in the ground. In any case, we're falling behind techwise.

The save

Pre-turn- Looks fine.

1. Coventry cat > cat, Nottingham galley > galley. Change Canturbury to a galley, we need more of those.

2. London sword > sword. Nowhere can the galley go safely, so I send him home for the Egyptian attack.

3. Some units are built.

4. Some units built.

5. Catapult from Coventry.

6. Two galleys, two swords, and a cat this turn.

7. Nothing

8. York sword > sword Iros and egypts sign peace.

9. Egyptians land a spear, two cats built just in time.

10. Egyptians land a sword. Switched all cities to galleys, because we're going broke, and we need tons more galleys to transport our units, we can't afford any more. Currency is in in one turn, do not trade it to Egypt. We need to send over a couple swords to pillage the iron so we don't have to worry about pikes. After that, we can trade it, then attack after a while. FP should probably be right in the middle of their lands (this is vanilla, remember :p ) so we'll have a very productive island resort.
