Yay! The rule is no longer there!

Will begin to update very soon.

Almost done with the update.

Beginning to post the update. I do hope that evil old rule doesn't come back.

Everybody should expect some (un)pleasant surprises!

Year 1925 - Update 24.

Global Events:

The new level of technological advances, started in India, Arabia and PRG now spreads to Turkey and Azteca as well.

DU seems to be collapsing. Over the German Camp Scandal (see spotlight), Turkey left it (if temporarily), and China threatened to do likewise. Catalonia seems likely to follow Turkey’s example. Russia and Britain, meanwhile, undertook numerous progressive reforms (over Russian Fascist protests, and Wrangel storming out of the Duma stating that it “sold Russia to the communists” and made the sacrifices of “the martyrs of Bloody Tuesday in Kronstadt go in vain”), also seem to be likely to leave DU soon. This following DC’s withdrawal a few years ago, many believe that DU is nearly over.

Russian attempts to restore order in North Brazil are not particularly successful. It seems that there is a more or less organized rebel organization, which is numerous and devoted – thus making Russian propaganda fairly inefficient. Rebellion begins to spread southwards, prompting Russia to set up another base of operations, farther south.

(-2 Russian divisions, -3 Rebel divisions)

Rio de Janeiro is slowly being rebuilt. The Madagascarans held elections in their occupation zone, forming a provisional Brazilian government, and allowed it to rebuild Brazil’s army. Albeit the international community is rather wary of restoration of Brazil’s army happening so soon, it does put out the southern rebellion, restoring order there.

“British Commonwealth” is declared, turning GB into a federation of autonomous regions.

PRG and French forces started yet another assault on Brussels. The desperate BLA leadership detonated the atom bomb (it arrived alittle late, so the BLA leadership had not the time to consider possible consequences of their defense positions being too close) near the advancing German troops, accidentally causing BLA and civilian casualties as well. The French commander tried to use this breach to attack Brussels, but the French had rather worthless anti-radiation equipment, and the offensive failed. Nevertheless, BLA is unlikely to hold on to Brussels for much longer...

(-1 BLA nuke, -7 BLA divisions, -10 German divisions, -4 French divisions)

Finland launches it’s own space satellite. It is estimated to be somehow more advanced then PRG’s.

Fearful of Finland’s peculiar shift in politics, the Scandinavian Democratic Alliance and Finland’s pursuit of nuclear knowledge (as well as the Volksabwehr’s counterintelligence finding out that Finland planned to support the “capitalist rebels” – see spotlight), Russia, PRG and British Commonwealth attacked Norway, Sweden and Finland. PRG bomber runs failed in taking out any of Finland’s nuclear power stations, as the stealth technology was not yet ready and the Finnish military was on standby. One nuclear silo was destroyed by a massive air raid, but PRG’s airforce suffered large casualties. Apart from this, however, the war goes smoothly for anti-Scandinavian coalition – if not as smooth as planned. Russo-Germano-Scania-British fleet quickly crushed the Finnish and Norwegian fleets in numerous engagements, using their advanced military technology and numerical superiority to defeat their foes, despite the fearsome Finnish resistance. The Finnish navy also managed to avoid total annihilation, withdrawing to the port. On land, things are even worse for Scandinavian nations. The British took over ungarrisoned Iceland, and then struck at Norway, occupying the better half of it – unfortunately, farther advance was hindered by the guerillas and the regrouped Norwegian army. The Ehre Korps crushed Sweden’s army (leading to the nation’s unconditional surrender) within a few weeks, albeit the partisans still hold parts of Sweden. Finally, the Russian military and the core of Ehre Korps attacked Finland. The battle for Finland’s skies was largely indecisive, but allowed Russia to bomb many strategic targets. A defecting Finnish officer assisted the Russian forces as they invaded Finland. Despite heavy resistance, Finland is being crushed by superior numbers and technology here as well. Russian forces captured many Finnish forces into pockets, destroying them altogether if having many casualties in the process. Using their extensive winter training, Russians surrounded Helsinki and took Torku and Murmansk amongst others. Ehre Korps advance in Northern Sweden (or Western Finland) was rather too slow, and had many unexpected casualties due to the harsh winter and Finnish preparedness (and extensive fortifications) – nevertheless, the region is secured by October, though the Finnish forces there are not crushed completely, neither (some of them got cut off at the fortifications, nevertheless fighting back the attempts to crush them). The loss of the crucial industrial center hurts Finland much (-1 Economy).

(-1 Finnish nuke, -44 Finnish divisions -23 Finnish task forces, -23 Finnish air wings, -8 Norwegian divisions, -9 Norwegian task forces, -Swedish military, -26 Ehre Korps divisions, -9 German task forces, -19 German air wings, -2 Scanian task forces, -42 Russian divisions, -9 Russian task forces, -18 Russian air wings, -6 British divisions, -18 British task forces, -9 British air wings)

As the Third Scandinavian War begun, six ballistic nukes from an unknown nation (presumably it was Burgundian or Finnish) were launched from some point in Northern Europe, destroying Germannia, St. Petersburg, Tsaritsyn, Kiev and Novgorod (another one was flying for Moscow, but was intercepted just barely). Luckily, the Russian reconnaissance planes noticed the missiles, and albeit they failed to intercept any (apart from the one flying for Moscow), 40% of Russian population in the cities managed to evacuate – in part, thanks to the nuclear emergency drills. Nevertheless, Russia suffered from the destruction of several key industries in Novgorod and Tsaritsyn (-2 Economy for Russia). PRG did not suffer as much, as most of the government officials were away from Germannia, and no key industries were located near it.

British forces are yet to withdraw from Liberia, and removed the Liberian civilian authority, stating that the disputed territory is a part of the British Commonwealth. Both sides are very close to war now, and in the Parliament, many argue against “fighting over an useless desert”.

FES and South Sudan announce the communist victory in the new elections (now with universal suffrage). FES then annexes the territory it still held in Africa. South Sudan, meanwhile, is being torn apart as pro-North Sudanese and anti-Communist factions ally and cause massive rebellions.

A controversial decision in China was made by the government, decreeing that the land is taken from big landowners and distributed amongst the peasants. Despite many protests, including those from Madagascar, this measure (enforced by government troops – luckily, the enforcement only rarely became violent) improved overall life standards in China, as well as led to increased interest amongst the peasants towards the government. It also allowed them to be able to educate their children – it is believed that the government education program would have been otherwise ineffective. Meanwhile, the “Electronic Revolution” took place, providing electricity to all the people (those who can afford it, anyway, but it is fairly cheap) (+2 Economy to China). Soon after, a similar project ended in India.

Oceanian forces in Indonesia surrender to the anti-USO coalition after losing all hopes of reestablishing a supply line with Australia. This – along with other shortcomings - causes mass desertion back in Australia.

(-23 Oceanian divisions, -2 Oceanian air wings, -1 Oceanian task force, -2 Arabian air wings, -1 DC division)

Facing a NZPA offensive, an army mutiny, a DC landing in the unprotected west and yet another scandal behind the lines when the head of USO intelligence shot himself, leaving a note revealing that it was the USO government that nuked it’s own citizens, the USO government declares that peace talks with NZPA have begun, presumably with the goals of reunification. USO seems to accept to instate social reforms as done by Russia and Britain, and hold elections with universal suffrage, in exchange for NZPA peacefully returning into USO. It is a NZPA victory, as with the universal suffrage, and the recent communist propaganda victories – from the Moon landing to the Concentration Camp Scandal to the Turkish recognition of the rebellion, it is more then likely that communists will win the elections.

(-1 Oceanian division, -1 Oceanian air wing, -1 NZPA air wing)

Random Events:

With the rising interest in space in all levels of the population, Finland has an education boom (+1 Education).

While STD might have dealt with the communists, it failed to crush the separatists yet. The Basques are rebelling...

Spotlight:

“Concentration Camp” Scandal.

“Seeking only to destroy German stability and prosperity, which they envied, the capitalist agents attempted to find an internal ally...”
- Shtirlitz, head of Volksabwehr. 1925.

Back in 1924, Madagascar suddenly stated that PRG is not really a democratic and benevolent communism it pretends to be, and that all those who disagree with Dunkelheit are placed in concentration camps. In reality, as recently revealed by the Volksabwehr (and later confirmed by an investigation), nothing similar to it ever took place.

It started, it would seem, in the previous decade. Somehow suspicious of their Madagascaran allies, the Volksabwehr started a counter-espionage operation. Sending a anonymous message to Madagascar, they pretended to be the leaders of an underground pro-Capitalist organization, whose legal counterparts were sent to “concentration camps”. Madagascar stated that it is PRG’s ally, and did not send any “aid”. Volksabwehr was satisfied, and eventually the operation was forgotten.

However, in April 1924, President Alec Lenin found the old diplomatic exchange, and being less committed to cooperation with PRG then his predecessor, he decided to unearth the “truth”. Having promised to send aid to the freedom fighters, he started the scandal on the levels of world diplomacy and in Toliera, the capital of DU.

Having received the “evidence” from MESA (Madagascaran Eternal Security Agency), Lenin became fully convinced that PRG is a tyrannical state that places it’s civilians into concentration camps. This caused a serious break, as the PRG’s government, having requested and received information from Volksabwehr only later on, was shocked and withdrew it’s representatives from Toliera. Already then, Turkey withdrew from DU, and now that Shtirlitz made his fateful announcement, DU’s integrity (and Madagascar’s prestige) are threatened even further.

NPC Diplomacy:

From: Panama
To: Madagascar

Are you insane?! Rebuilding the army of Brazil, the revanchist sentiments of which are still present? Can you not see the consequences of that?

From: France
To: Madagascar

The Volksabwehr had it’s suspicions about you, and it was right in it’s suspicions. What do you have to say for yourself this time?

From: Balkamonov
To: PRG and Russia

We would like to be the first to offer our deepest condolences to your peoples. While we understand that Finnish leadership realized they have no hopes of defeating you, we believe that turning an ordinary war into a nuclear one is a crime against humanity.

Form: Balkamonov
To: The World

We officially declare a trade embargo on Finland, and hope that other nations join it.

From: Angola
To: FES

We demand that you hold the elections in the former Brazilian territory. Your annexation is completely illegitimate!

From: NZPA and USO
To: DC, Arabia and Russia

We realize that trying to hold on to all of Indonesia is hopeless for the soon-to-be reunited Oceania. So, we suggest that referendums are held in different areas of Indonesia, whether to remain with Oceania, join a foreign power, gain independence or form an Indonesian nation. Acceptable?

OOC:

Conehead, sorry, too tired to PM you. Your progress is halfway through.

Everyone, note that if you have any questions on the history of your nation in the past, or on any event mentioned by the NPCs or in the update, you can always ask me.

Stalin – you don’t have stealth bombers. Yet.

Sgt. Hellfish – sorry, but I am simply too lazy to set up all those new sovereign nations, so I made the Commonwealth a federation of autonomous nations instead.

Um, Capulet? You still didn’t answer the question as to whether or not I should transfer you to another nation.

Naervod – are you still playing?

That, or a bunch of insane Tokyo-destroying Japanese alien robots.

From Britain

Would you consider this foolish matter closed or would you further the frustration and confusion?

OOC: im really rather happy with this update i took iceland which i had my eye on for a while and lost very few men comapared to my allies. Truely teh British way :D

To the World
From Finland

Finland has been attacked! Why? Because it tried to boost its own defences. Because it tried to stop a communist takeover of their nation, Why? Because WE HAVE TRIED TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH.

President Lysenko is in an undisclosed location and has vowed that even if the Finnish nation is overrun, even if Scandinavia is occupied by the communist powers that THEY WILL NOT LIE DOWN. He has vowed to fight them 'In the cities, on the ice plains, in the mountains and on the seas. He has stated that IF the AGGRESSOR nations of the COMMITTERN (Russia has shown its true allegiance here) do not withdraw and pay reperations for all damage incurred to all Scandinavian property, that a nuclear fire will fall upon those who have destroyed a Democratic future of Scandinavia.

Lastly They call upon all true and proper nations who are outraged by this war of aggression.

Finland will never surrender to the likes of Communist dictatorships

Orders will be sent by PM.

Dominion of Colonies
to the world:
The Germans and their allies have aggresivly invaded another country.
We also have reasons to belive Germany was behind the nukes.

to Russia:
Why destory a new born friendship? Remove your forces from Finland at ones!

to Ireland:
Our allies in Finland were attacked. We cannot aid them unless we know we have other countries on our side, would you be on our side befor you fall to the aggresive British to?

to Madagasacar:
With the attack by Germany on Finland we belive your decleration is true and their trying to bring down who that support it befor it's officialy known that they have this camps. Will you aid us, atleast diplomaticly, against Germany?

to USO and NZPA:
As promised. This war was started by us to gain freedom. We have reasons to believe Russia will not free Papua-New-Gini if their people will ask for it to be.
Yes elections shall be held all over Oceania to see what each province wish to do. We want this elections also to be held in Oceania proper. They to should have the ability to choose what they want just like Indonesia and Papua-New-Gini and any other lands Oceania ones held.

Statements:
(all written before the update...)

TO: DU

By attacking a DU member (Finland and Norway) we fall under Article 2a: "War between member states of the Democratic Union will have their memberships suspended until the fighting has ceased." We therefore have to leave the DU. We wish you success for the future.

TO: Finland

Russia sees Finland as a danger. Your demand for nuklear weapons, your support for our Oceanian enemy and your united Scandinavia politc cannot be accepted. We are sorry that our former good relations has changed so drasticly.

We suspect you for nuking our citizen. This is a crime and you will pay for this. However, we will not get down on your barbaric level and nuke the innocent Finnish civilians.

TO: The Finnish people and soldiers

Our future could have been much brighter, but the politics of your government cannot be accepted by Moscow. If you cooperate with us, you will still see this great future. We will try to be as nice and fair to you as possible, however if you resist to us and we are put in danger, we will have to react. Please cooperate!

Do not fear nuklear revenge by Russia. We, unlike your government, do always try to make minimal civilian casulties in war.

TO: Norway

Same here. Although we will most likely not be forced to fight you directly, we are still at war with you (and Sweden). Since we had good relations in the past, we will try to make sure that you will be treated nicely.

OOC:@das

1."Bloody Tuesday in Kronstadt" - What exactly happened?

2.Was that nuking triggered by our invasion or would it have happened anyways?

@stalin... well you were right :(!

OOC: BTW, Sheep, Lysenko is a rather odd name for a Finnish president, as it's a Belorussian name. I think I said it before. But it's insignificant.

IC:

From: France
To: Finland

Your "nuclear fire" already fell on PRG and Russia.

From: Ireland
To: DC

We dare not risk a war with Britain.

to Ireland:
Who talked about war? You saw us declearing wars? We ment diplomatic aid in coming diplomatic war...
Oh and you dare not risk a war with Britian? What if Britian was to attack us?

OOC: 1. In the end of WWI, the Russian sailors mutineed in Kronstadt (near St. Petersburg), seizing the naval base and the town. They executted the aristocratic officers and fired on a small mob which tried to rescue them.

2. I guess it would be safe to say it was triggered by the invasion.

IC:

From: Ireland
To: DC

If it was to attack you, we will have to back you. But we do not want to provoke a war by supporting it's enemies, even if diplomatically.

das can you come onto MSN or ICQ and talk to me please

From: Russia
To: DC

Why are you trying to make us look bad? We talked about Papua New Guiana even BEFORE the Oceanian war started. Did you forgot what we said? We said that we only want the Bismarck Islands as a base in the Pacific, and that Papua New Guiana will be independent!

Since when are you friends to Finland!? Did you forgot, that they wanted to support Ocenia? What's going on?

to the world:
The Germans and their allies have aggresivly invaded another country.
We also have reasons to belive Germany was behind the nukes.

THe PRG lunched the nukes? WHY? Why did they nuke themselves and their allies???

no sorry, I´m not on my own PC and this PC doesn't have AIM or ICQ or MSN.
