NES2 II: Age of Discovery

No mention of Sinhala's new gunpowder rifle?

It should easily give me a monopoly over the battlefield ;)

The Kataphraktoi

The horses galloped, the noise sending shivers of fear down the bodies of the Judeans.

Their armor glistened in the sun, and their red standards heralded their charge.

Onward they went, pistols at the ready. The horsemen discharged a volley.

Judeans fell.

Then, the horsemen drew their swords, and onward the charge went, decimating the enemy and smashing their lines.

Constantinople would be nevermore be harrased by these fools, these fanatics.

The charge of the Kataphraktoi ensured that.

The Reorganization of the Imperial Armies
By Paulo Commemnus

Dear Emperor, It is with much regreat that I write to you. Our armies have barely held back the onslaughting Judeans and Persians, and i write to you today, as Cheif of the General Staff, on my suggestions in improving our armed forces to better themselves against the eastern hordes.

Firstly, our artillery teams are to be abandoned as the elite corps of our army, instead, we shall reinstitute the Kataphraktoi, the deadly cavalry corps as the elite.

They are not just simple knights clad in armor, however. I have created a prototype corps myself, and this is my suggestion for their general organization:

Kataphraktoi: (new UU) Instead of nobility, these are to be raised from professional levies, the best soldiers in the cavalry regiments. They are to be armed with breastplates, covering their back, shoulders, and upper thighs. Troops are trained in the use of flintlock pistols, but after an inital volley is fired they will revert to a curved sword of high durability steel.

Trained to charge in large formation, these are the deadliest cavalry forces yet seen.

Imperial Line Infantry: (Infantry Divisions) Traditional infantry, these constitute the main body of our armed forces. I have re equipped particular units and have decided that this configuration is to be most sucessful in the field of battle:

Flintlocks (designs from Sinhala) will be adopted as the main weapon of these infantry corps. Matchlocks are to be done away with, due to their cumbersome wieght and slow reload time. Armor -- Done away with, instead, we will replace with a thick but small layer of leather underneath the imperial uniforms. For a secondary weapon, they will have the bayonet on their muskets, and a small sword.

Men are trained effectively to use muskets as their primary reload times. The line formation will have 3 rows maximum to maximise musket fire, but this can be reconfigured to a column formation during a charge.

Artillery: (Artillery divisions) Using lessons learnt from the Legionarrie Cannoneers, and sinhalese experts which have recently visited Constantinople, I have concluded that this will be our best configuration of artillery:

A system based on throw wieght. All armies shall have light 4 pounders and 6 pounders accompanying them. Artillery oriented divisions shall have 8 to 12 pounders accompanying them while siege companies will have mortars. Artillery is to be placed on wheeled axel and carriage to provide mobility. 3 men are to serve one cannon.

Early Colonial (Renaissance) Age: Culture is flourishing like never before in the last hundred years! Not that you care, so here are the weapons: primitive gunpowder weaponry, ocean-travelling ships, cannon siege towers, etc.
Middle Colonial Age: advanced gunpowder weaponry, better ocean-travelling ships, colonial militias.
Late Colonial Age: More advanced gunpowder weaponry, ships-of-the-line, improved fortifications, and whatever else you people invent by then.
Early Industrial Age: very good firearms and cavalry, improved military doctrine, and maybe reconnaissance balloons.
What does the future hold?
Middle Age maybe??? Update the front page, I need to know where we're headed, and just what the Zulu are up to.

OOC:
"Random Internet Ranting"???

Your first story. Not sure if this is an appropriate title. ;)

erez. Read previous update. Your scientists already finished 'you-know-what", to some extent. ;)

Capulet, I KNOW it isn't secret, but I doubt your engineers will immediately ran out in the streets with the rifles, firing them into the air and telling all those in this NES that they invented the "17th Century Musket".

Erik, Middle Ages are the Medieval Ages. As in, no gunpowder yet. Happy?

Welcome back, Panda.

The building of Castle Atlanta

After years of hard fighting for the freedom of the colonies, Voitto Palmen was ready to improve the economic sittuation of his country.

He needed a glorious monument a place for him to rule his people, somewhere around Finntown.

His came up with an idea for a Castle to be built in the coast of Finntown he asked his architechs and seers to design a monumental Castle wich would last any siege and last for centuries. His men returned with a suitable plan on how to build it, Palmen gave them the order to build it.

Castle Atlanta looked from the direction of Finntown.

A great wall of fortifications were being built on to the Delaware peninsula around Finntown Palmen and his generals Ikäpäivä and Lappalainen, were al pleased with the fortification works progressing fastly.

"Once the Castle is ready nothing will threat Finntown ever again" Ikäpäivä said proudly.

"Don't be too hasty, there's no telling what our enemies can come up with" Palmen said.
