Fine, some other blasting explosive, not using nitroglycerine, but a highly unstable and dangerous combination of potassium and elemental sodium. Or some unstable compound, whatever the user can get his hands on. The toxic nature is such that it needs to be prepared immediately. Happy?

EDIT: I would use dynamite itself, but y'know, it's not invented yet. ;)

OOC: Whatever happened to Capulet?

D:

oh you and your elemental potassium Thlayli :), I wish it was cost effective to do that in the real world...

Look if you really have that much potassium lying around use it as a primary explosive agent in combination with Black powder and nitroglycerine to set off a AN/FO tertiary (though due to 1870s refining techniques the ANFO will be quite bad, especially without Haber/Odda Processes, and without Fuel Oil distillation) in a nice barrel bomb. Or if you just want to kill some men/burn down a building, Black powder and liberal application of the ol' Crude Oil is simple and effective - don't overthink things ;)

The curfew passed, and he slipped into an alleyway. The Federates probably thought that a rigorously enforced curfew would keep people inside, but they’d forgotten to check their facts. Mecca had been crushed under the iron grip of the Ottoman Guards for several years, and a curfew was nothing compared to raids, torture, and complete brutality. In addition, any Meccan seen after sunset in the streets was shot on sight by the Ottomans.

The Federates were more civilized (or maybe just less intelligent) than that. If they saw someone running, they had to catch him, first. If the Ottomans saw someone running, they assumed that he was doing something wrong, and killed him at range.
Heavy-handedness is the only way to deal with groups who won't accept anything other than total independence. Too bad that despite my best efforts, Persia still succeeded in getting agents planted all through my country. For a paranoid guy, my security was apparently not tight enough. :p

After the injury you caused me!?!

Oh, I never authorized any torture. Actually, I allowed a little brutality, but only in those who violently resisted me.

Thlayli, did you ever notice that different Muslim sects under me were 'oppressed', but under you are 'accepting of their rule'? Do you suppose that's just because they've spent less time under your control and haven't had a chance to develop a good hatred for you yet? :p

Actually, some already did, as you might have noticed. ;)

I think its more that he's the one writing the stories , and heavy-handiness isn't the only way to deal with seperatists :mischief:

Well, I did develop good relations with Wahhabites, Egyptians, etc, so its not like all Sunni Muslims hate me with a passion, just a large minority.

More like a narrow majority, actually. Both the Wahhabites and the Egyptians turned on you, not all of them ofcourse but a great plenty.

So hard to find good allies these days. ;) Except for Turkey, Iggy's really been quite fair about everything. We'll have to force the Bulgars to give back Edirne some time in the future.

Really supporting the whole 'not puppets' thing you keep going on about on there aren't you ;). And about the arab rebels - its the middle east; there are always rebels.

Good luck doing that...

Indeed, maybe the Bulgarians should be seeking a burly protector...

Getting this thread back on track...sort of...

Is Warman still playing Romania? I haven't heard from him in a while.

From: Persia
To: Romania

As a fellow Balkan Pact member, we would like to hear your opinion on the Polish issue. Would you agree to peace with them?

Hmm, too bad. There is that little issue of Northern Bulgaria that still has to be resolved...

Just a clarification though, we do not have, and have never had, any intention of invading Bulgaria.

@andis: We appreciate the sentiment, getting there might be a problem if anyone attacks it, though.

Kinda funny for a potential war to come from an accidental border misdrawing, or someone Thlayli forgetting to mention it to das.

@dis- then how do you deal with a huge group of people who hate you totally and absolutely?
