Andorra agrees with the above statement. It would also appreciate it if people start sending orders - sure, there are still several days left, but if I get all orders by the end of Sunday I will hopefully be able to update early.

There is always the option of pouring molten silver into every orifice of Karamurad's body...

Anyways, here's that story I promised.

Occupied Isfahan-December 18, 1862

Night. The gas lamps were shattered, the buildings burnt out, the city gutted. Turkmeni troops made regular patrols on horseback through the shattered streets, mercilessly killing any they found. A curfew was brutally enforced after sundown. Only Persians on “military business” snuck through the alleyways. The commander of the Turkmeni Army unit that garrisoned the city thought that the bookstore on Mohammed’s Way was destroyed, the resistance literature they printed burnt.

That’s what he thought.

A man wearing the torn shreds of what might have once been an Islamic Army of Persia uniform slunk through the streets. Silencers were nonexistent, so a knife in the ribs was the only method of silent killing available. The man spat on his knife, quite recently used, to clean it, then tore off a bit of his uniform to cover his bleeding hand. It was a shame he had to kill that patrolman.

A necessary one, however. He would kill a thousand such men to protect the Shah. Or Persia.

Or Osman Mustafa.

He had a quiet disposition, but most people did, these days. His blond beard had been shaven, and his hair was hidden under a black beret. He crept up to the bookstore, and walked in through the shattered storefront.

Glass crunched under his feet as he gazed through the open space where windows used to be. The Turkmenis were certainly no strangers to destroying buildings. As he walked into the burnt out, charred shell of a building, one of the rotting shelves collapsed.

A guard walked down from the nearby tavern. Poking his head inside, he saw nothing, and continued on his patrol.

The man darted out of the shadowed corner in which he was hiding. Seeing that a half burned Koran sat on the ground, he picked it up. Kissing the holy book, the man set it on the smashed windowsill and walked on. Soon he saw the half-broken stairs to the cellar. Without hesitation, he jumped down the staircase, his feet not touching the collapsing stairs. That would have attracted unwelcome attention.

He landed relatively silently, like a cat, or a demon. He lit a small candle (matches were still a European luxury in 1862) and peered around him. “My, the Turkmenis did their work well,” he whispered. The printing press lied in ruins about him, and scattered sheets of half-burnt, virulently anti-Turkmeni literature lay everywhere.

He proceeded to the secret door. Behind the fireplace there was a crawlspace to the side. Inside the crawlspace there was a large floorboard. Knocking on the floorboard two times, and then four times, and then six times, the wood slid aside a few inches, to admit the view of a man’s eyes.

“Well?”

“When in the course of events it becomes necessary to overthrow tyrants, it is the People who are the impetus for change.” The password was from a well-known Persian philosopher’s work.

The subterranean guard responded. “And when that change has been accomplished, allow not the People to re-institute what they deposed. Welcome brother, you have been expected.”

Captain Jeshua slipped down into the secret room where the clandestine gathering was being held. Ten men sat in front of a tiny lantern. Six held rifles. The rest carried swords, pistols or knives.

“So you are the liaison? A bit worn out, are we?” The apparent leader of the group was a large, bearded man with a huge brown cloak, and an imposing scimitar. He seemed almost bear-like, and looked vaguely Dalnorossian.

“Quite worn out, in fact. Most of the soldiers under my command are dead. My superiors do not even know I am alive. That is one of the reasons why I am useful at this time.”

“Excellent. What is the status of the army down south? Is the Shah going to hold Karamurad at bay long enough?”

“It would seem so. Even you know about the fortifications those engineers are building.”

“Yes, the Suleiman style,” one of the others added. “Will it succeed in repelling the Turkmen hordes, however?”

“That is our hope. At any rate, our Western brothers will be upon us from an unexpected quarter. Is everything prepared in Teheran?”

“Karamurad has not yet razed the University. It seems that it is being used as their operational headquarters. We fear, however, that he will try to destroy it soon, and massacre the people.”

“I see. We will take that into account in our plans. Things are going to get very busy soon, gentlemen. Here are the maps and plans that you require. I have several other engagements, and we have to set things in motion immediately.”

The leader of the group was about to speak again, when a massive explosion was heard from upstairs. A black clad boot broke through the wooden floor/ceiling, and foreign shouts were heard calling for aid.

“Damn! A raid! Kemal, the exit!”

Three gunshots were heard. The light went out.

Nation Background: With French help, the duchy of Savoy has managed to gradually unify Italy, but many problems remained. The Pope continues to verbally attack the kingdom, Italy itself has only recently recovered from the Nine Years War and already, it is again threatened by the Holy Roman Empire. A civil war now begun after Umberto I's radical reforms estranged the Monarchists from him, and the new king, Carlo Emanuele, though supported by France, is not faring well against the Pope...

Can someone please also explain to me whats going on about the war against the pope (its happening right?) and all those forces occupying northern italy.

Classy. problem though, due to the human body plan it is nearly impossible to pour into every oriface at once - whichever ones are orientated downwards will flow out again...maybe if you had some sort of pump...

Anyway Dalnorossia condemns the barbaric and wasteful methods of the Persians - a bullet through the brain is nearly always sufficent. There was that time with Boris "the Bullet Dodger" Salnikov, but you know what they say - "if at first you don't suceed; shoot him in the head again!"

Franco Angioni

Called by many an Utter Loon. He is a staunch Carbonary, Angioni always referred to himself as a 'Scientist' in important social circles, but apart from ship design he isn't much of a scientist. After the out break of the Civil War sided with Umberto and conducted research in Turin. After Umberto's downfall, escaped from Italy and by chance met with Antonio Gramsci, who was also in hiding. Ordered the murder of Umberto and the retrieval of one page of his research that Umberto had taken as a bargaining chip. Now working for Antonio Gramsci and the head of 'Pearl of the Seas' project.

This is not the end” Karamurad said “A year ago, the Persians, Chinese, and Federation entered our lands. They came as thieves and conquerors. They saw an Empire at peace and mistook the strength of our convictions for frailty of arms, the wisdom of compromise for the timidity of cowards.” Kramaurad gazed over the vast sea of faces in the open plaza of the people who had come to hear him speak.

“They attacked without provocation or mercy, killing thousands of our citizens, enslaving our cities. They believed we would be easily defeated because they believed we would yield without a fight. They were wrong” he paused

“We have fought at Teheran, we have fought at Yazad, we have fought at Ishfahan, we have fought at Shiraz, and we have fought in Afghanistan. We have fought the enemy from the southern mountains to the eastern deserts. We have lost untold numbers. But we are still fighting. We are still here!” he roared holding up his fist

“Soon the enemy will be upon us, in our cities, in our home. To all of you I say the same thing. Keep fighting.

“This is not the end. We have won many great victories in this war. We have prevailed against these enemies before. This is a war we know how to win. Keep fighting until you can fight no longer, then exhaust the enemy chasing you, and then turn around and fight some more. Keep fighting. I promise you and we will prevail.

“ Allah is on our side.” Saying this he held up the large Othman Koran, the crowd gasped gazing up at him in fervor as if he was Muhammad himself “Allah has sent this gift to us to motivate us and tell us that we are his chosen people. We are blessed by Allah” he then opened the Koran and began to read the beautiful Arabic script in a deep voice that rebervated across the entire plaza capturing the ears of all present.

“Those who reject Faith and belief Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein. Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority: their abode will be the Fire: And evil is the home of the wrong-doers! But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein: And they shall have a humiliating punishment.” Karamurad continued

“Let those fight in the cause of Allah. Who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah, - whether he is slain or gets victory - Soon shall We give him a reward of great value. Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject Faith Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against the friends of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.”

“The Unbelievers are unto you open enemies. The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;”
The crowd was getting riled up, members of the audience began shouting and stamping.

“If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them All kinds of blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected the truth, and We brought them to book for their misdeeds. Did the people of the towns feel secure against the coming of Our wrath by night while they were asleep? . Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about care-free? Remember thy Lord inspired the angels with the message: "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them." This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger. If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment. Thus will it be said: "Taste ye then of the punishment: for those who resist Allah, is the penalty of the Fire."

“O ye who believe! when ye meet the Unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them. If any do turn his back to them on such a day - unless it be in a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop of his own- he draws on himself the wrath of Allah, and his abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed! It is not ye who slew them; it was Allah. When thou threwest a handful of dust, it was not thy act, but Allah's: in order that He might test the Believers by a gracious trial from Himself: for Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. That, and also because Allah is He Who makes feeble the plans and stratagem of the Unbelievers.”
The recruitment tables which he had set up nearby were getting mobbed now as the crowd surged forward in their fervor.

“The Unbelievers spend their wealth to hinder man from the path of Allah, and so will they continue to spend; but in the end they will have only regrets and sighs; at length they will be overcome: and the Unbelievers will be gathered together to Hell;- And know that out of all the booty that ye may acquire in war, a fifth share is assigned to Allah,- and to the Messenger, and to near relatives, orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer,- if ye do believe in Allah and in the revelation We sent down to Our servant on the Day of Testing,- the Day of the meeting of the two forces. For Allah hath power over all things.”

“Fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war; Truly, if the Hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the City, desist not, We shall certainly stir thee up against them: Then will they not be able to stay in it as thy neighbors for any length of time: They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain without mercy.”
The crowd began calling for the blood of the infidel, screaming at the top of their lungs.

“Such was the practice approved of Allah among those who lived aforetime: No change wilt thou find in the practice approved of Allah. Verily Allah has cursed the Unbelievers and prepared for them a Blazing Fire,- To dwell therein for ever: no protector will they find, nor helper. With the result that Allah has to punish the Hypocrites, men and women, and the Unbelievers, men and women, and Allah turns in Mercy to the Believers, men and women: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

“O ye who believe! Truly the Pagans are unclean; so let them not, after this year of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque. Fight those who believe neither in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, even if they are of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. O ye who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true in word and deed. O ye who believe! Fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.”

“Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers in fight, smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly on them: thereafter is the time for either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus are ye commanded: but if it had been Allah.s Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them Himself; but He lets you fight in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost. Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. And those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, but compassionate amongst each other... there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone. "Unless I proclaim what I receive from Allah and His Messages: for any that disobey Allah and His Messenger,- for them is Hell: they shall dwell therein for ever." Those who reject Truth, among the People of the Book and among the Polytheists, will be in Hell-Fire, to dwell therein for aye. They are the worst of creatures.”
The crowd stamped, it’s feet, screamed, called out wept, so overcome with emotion were they. They for one glorious instant say the image of Allah as Muhammad himself had seen it rear up before them shining in all it’s glory and majesty. They would never forget it for the rest of their lives.

Midnight somewhere in the Eastern Italian coastal regions. (A few hours after the events in San Marino) Aboard the Royal Battleship Raffaello Sanzio, Angioni was looking over the documents and designs he had already written. "This will need a lot more work..." - he thought to himself in dissapointment and put the papers back down to a desk.

Just then the door is knocked and Sassari enters the room. "I thought you'd want this." - he said and handed over then envelope he had got from Umberto to Angioni. "So you got the paper from him afterall." - Angioni said not even looking at Sassari too focused on the envelope.

"Yes, although he had to be killed to prevent him from talking anything to the French."

"Excelent." Angioni replied, opening the envelope and looking at the paper he pulled from inside it.

"Gramsci want's to know, if you have made any progress." - Sassari commented

"Even with this paper it will take time. Slowly but surely i will finish this." - Angioni said, withrawing back to the desk to continue work

"I'll report back to Gramsci. Don't fail us on this." - Sassari said, saluted and left.

Somewhere in the royal palace of Cuzco.

The Sapa-Inca was excited. Excited, happy and also a bit nervous. The last year had seen many changes throughout his nation. Several of his people had left for France aboard commercial ships to study the distant empire and get new ideas that might help the Incan Empire grow stronger.

It would be just one part of his plan to make his nation strong again and reclaim its rightful place in the sun. Unbeknownst to all but his closest advisors the first steps had already been taken. The highranking administrators and officers were on their way to Europe and along the southern border Incan troops were preparing to move into Federated Kingdoms territory in agreement with the distant government in mythical London. A deal had been struck to return the sacred lands around holy lake Titicaca to the Incan people, a deal that was expensive, but necessary and which he was sure his people would approve of. He wondered if the French would agree to hand over the Galapagos islands to the Inca as well. While located a bit away they islands held spiritual meaning for his people though no foreigners were able to understand why when they were so far away from Cuzco. The people knew, though they too had almost forgotten the original importance of these isles, a secret only known now by the Sapa-Inca and some priests.

At the thought of his people the Sapa-Inca smiled. They were loyal, hardworking and honest. He was proud to call them his people and wanted them to be proud of being Inca. They had complete faith in him and he didn't want to let them down. Some of his ancestors had been more concerned with personal pleasure and disregarded the people, but for him there were bigger concerns than just pleasure. He wanted to be a leader that was truly loved and respected.
Across the land schools were being constructed in order to train those of the people who showed skills of mathematics, languages and many other valuable talents. Government riders were visiting all small villages and all towns to test the people in them. All who were found worthy would be given an education and turned into valuable administrators to help govern the realm. The mountains posed a great barrier for fast communication, so it was vital to have skilled and trustworthy leaders in all cities, towns and villages. The Sapa-Inca was particularly pleased with the fact that girls and young women would be tested as well. In his opinion they could often offer a unique perspective on a situation and would thus be well suited for counseling roles.

Also, not far from Cuzco in a secluded valley production had started on a massive industrial complex. In a few years it would be ready to start full scale production and then rival the best centers in Europe and produce goods needed by the Incans. Then it would no longer by necessary to import advanced goods at high prices. Soon, in just a few years, the Incan nation would rise again and shake the world. The Sapa-Inca hoped he would do his people and his ancestors proud.

It was an interesting time to live in for the Inca.

There is a small matter of a Koran currently in the possession of Karamurad...it has been determined by our historians that the artifact belonged to the Sassanid Dynasty of Persia before it's theft and later burial. If it falls into any of your hands, please return it.
