Well, if you don't want to read the update I can help you there.

Persia narrowly avoided war with Greater Turkmenistan, they partitioned Kalat between them. Persia also signed a naval treaty with the FK (see diplomatic agreements.

A 4 way civil war is currently in progress in Italy, between the King Umberto who wants to make all sorts of crazy reforms (like universal suffrage), he controls the north. The military supports his brother for the Kingship, who controls Rome and central Italy. They are the Carlists. The Pope has taken control of Naples and Sicily. And finally, Venice is independant. It looks like Venice, the Carlists and France are allied against Umberto, (green) and the pope is a wild card as of yet.

The Ottoman Empire is proving unstable, with Greeks, Hungarians, Slavs, Ukrainians, Tartars, Abyssinians, Shiites, Arabs, Egyptians, and a slew of other minorities agitating, whose positions on the Turks are anywhere from mild distrust to open hatred.

The European powers expand in Africa, Holy Roman Empire can't eliminate the junker problem (but you know that) and China bought Macao back from Portugal. Gold was discovered in Mexico, France founded a tiny colony on New Zealand, and that's about it.

@Reno: I know my position is a dire one, but I feel like being a pesky thorn in your side. ^_^ If Venice does get destoried, I'll probally take a nation in Africa or something.

Here is la première partie of my story, expect the other before...too long.

Cyrus and Darius Military Academy, Part One

People made way when Mustafa walked down the street. Former Army officers often saluted, and there were plenty of “veterans” in Shiraz. He wasn’t a pompous man, but he liked the respect. It was good to no longer be some petty major, as he was under Hosayn, out in the countryside putting down rebellions and insurgencies that he privately agreed with. It was obvious that he would support this venture. And as for those pompous fools in the War Ministry…well, not many of them are still alive, are they?

General Mustafa, Grand Commander of the Islamic Army of Persia, and Chief Military Advisor to Shah Ardashir IV, chuckled. He’d come a long way from sitting in tents and hacking off rioting farmers heads. Not that he had any personal grievance back then, it was just his job. And it was good to be a friend of the People….most people.

Mustafa mentally made sure that all the tasks for the month were completed. He had burnt the poppy fields in North Kalat, and confiscated the opium found (several tons, in fact) which speedily met it’s final destination at the bottom of the Caspian Sea. The farmers were a bit less devastated when they heard that government seed and tool handouts were coming. It was a bit hard to get a concept of a “loan” across to many of the Kalatian ones…but that was the bureaucrats job, anyway.

And that anarchist society in Teheran was broken up…they weren’t that popular anyway, mostly Muscovite expatriates and other agitators. Oh, and that weird collective farm on the Turkmeni border was confiscated too. The whole idea of not paying workers was a little strange to Mustafa, but he would of let them be if they hadn’t stoned the tax collector.

Yes, it sure was good to be a friend of the People. Most of them.

At any rate, Mustafa had been waiting for this day for a long time. His old, obselete barracks in Shiraz had, on the order of the Shah, been refitted into a military academy. Several retired European expatriates, all soldiers, had been invited to teach, and a surprising number accepted. It was time to see if the school lived up to Persian standards.

Perhaps it revitalized their memories of colonial wars and whatnot, he mused. Well, they certainly have Western expertise. Most of the staff was Persian, but a variety of military backgrounds and nationalities were insisted upon by the Shah.

As he approached the gates, Mustafa gazed up at the massive marble statues of the two Persian emperors whose name the academy bore. Cyrus and Darius. Mounted on two large columns, the robed giants seemed to be sentinels, guarding against any threat that might come against Persia’s future within. And Persia’s future it truly is, for these young cadets are getting the finest military education in Asia. Pausing, the general looked at the inscription on the bronze plaque which was mounted upon the gate.

REMEMBER THESE WORDS, ALL EMPIRES ARE FORGED OF BRAVERY AND SKILL, BUT LET NOT POWER DULL YOUR MIND, AND GLORY YOUR SENSES. FOR EMPIRES FALL THROUGH FOLLY AND ARROGANCE. ONE MAN CAN CREATE AN EMPIRE, OR DESTROY IT.

“Hmm, good point,” Mustafa said. “I’ve got to remember that one.” He thought for a minute.

“May we never invade Greece again,” he muttered, and walked through the gate.

Small question das, can you recruit troops/ships, and then use them in the same turn?
aye, but remember that building/recruiting them takes time, so they might not make it in time to the front if enemy moves fast enough.

To: World
From: Persia

We hereby recognize the Republic of Venice to be an independant nation. Also, Shah Ardashir IV offers his support and recognition to the Kingdom of Italy under Carlo I. We understand the importance of deposing insane rulers who pursue policies contrary to the people's will.

The Holy Islamic Kingdom of Persia strongly urges the world community to back Carlo and sanity in Italy, for the interests of peace and stability.

We the people choose our independence and shall fight for it until our last man and our last cent has been expended, from the oppressors of the Imperialists.

Venice, Republic of Venice:
Congregation Building [OTL Doge's Palace]

And so the Senators had assembled. True, they weren't elected officials, merely important men who had supported Venetian freedom from the scourge of the evil liberal Umberto. Still, these men had a duty to draft a conservative democratic government, put into action, while keeping the Hungary wolves of Europe at bay. All these men had ideas - conflicting ideas that caused them to argue into the dim-twilight of morning. It was a known fact; everyone in Venice knew the Congregational Senators were as close to creating a government as Russia was to becoming a united country.

--

Soon, popular clubs had popped up in the city, amongst the clergy, civilian nobility and even the army. These groups disliked the Congregation even more than the Umbertists. They wanted a new government; they wanted no democracy, they all wanted to best. Of course, that wasn't possible. But with the sly efforts of a politician known only as Guissippe de Varni were the groups opposed to the congregation united, named "Venice's Tribunal". The military, the industrialists, and even the Clergy in Venice were behind the Tribunal. The Congregation had no allies aside from the working poor. Yes, there were many poor people. But if the Tribunal was quiet, it could work the Congregation from the shadows to do what they want.

Venice, Republic of Venice
Congregational Building

"No, no! What we is this!" One of the sentors yelled, slamming the random mundane papers to the ground. Yet another arguement, and it was 2am! At this pace, Venice would never have a government! As the yelling continued, the doors of the Congregation were forced open, and Guissippe de Varni strode in, armed guards behind him.

"Arguing again? My, my..this won't work." Guissippe said quietly, ordering his guards to shut the door. Many senators gasped, screaming insults at curses at Guissippe. Many knew of the man's influence in Venice. He had supported Venetian freedom, and at the time it seemed, the congregation. But that wasn't true it seemed.

"Venice needs order," Guissippe shouted, causing the Senators to cower. "I had entrusted you all to bring such order. But I was wrong; I was wrong to even consider allowing a democratic government to florish here! Democracy is for the weak, in the end it will always crumble."

"You can't tell us what to do Varni! We have the support of the people! We will make this government work. It won't be the cheap 1797 Oligarchy we had once before! It was made us weak. We will be STRONG!" One of the senators yelled out. Guissippe smiled at the man's vigor. Still, those that opposed him needed to be dealt with. Pointing at the man, Guissippe whispered something and shots rang out. Blood splattered, and the man fell dead. The remaining senators cowered; how could they oppose Guissippe when he had brute force behind him?

"Anyways," Guissippe continued. "The congregation is suspended. The Tribunal of Venice will assume all governmental duties, loyal only to the Prince of Venice..who shall be elected at a later date by the nobility. But, in order to keep "the people" appeased, the Congregation will continue to meet, and will release the constitution prepared by the Clerical sect of the Tribunal."

"It won't work," A senator muttered. "They will take notice when we, supposdly liberial man work under conservative conditions."

Shots rang out again, and another man fell.

"The working poor can't read! Besides, the constitution you will send out will be edited heavily to seem liberal. The one will operate by will be conservative. And for elections? They will happen..sort of. The people shall elect whomever runs for election. And those who can run must belong to one of the Tribunal sects. Anyways, we are done here. Good day."

Guissippe was gone, and in an instant a Venetian democracy had faded.

Thayli: I bet it isn't on your list.

My ancient and once prosperous people will rise once more to their independence and claim the freedom long since denied them

Which russia are you refering to? For you might be suprised ;)

If you attack Muscow... :p

Well, all of Russia is all..tiny and petty states. Basically the senators were as close to getting a democratic government as Russia was to unite somehow.

Russia meaning the geographical meaning, not the political one.
