We find your rapid military buildup most unsettling. Please put us at ease, and tell us that this is temporary.

EDIT: Excellent update das. My project progress should be at 2/7 though, seeing as how I increased it by one turn normally.

Irregular in fighting style, they do not act as units but rather as dispersed units in the stye of guierlla's but with the benefits of state funding.

they are excellant for disruption and a good counter to the irregular style of warfare in the rebellious areas.

The irregular troops certainly won't engage me in a normal fight, because thats how they would lose quickly. thus the use of irregular troops.

A number of diplomatic annoucements

Regarding the Imperial War

The Grand Rada of Dalnorossia takes no sides and issues no condemnations, however it does note the foolishness of many sides of this war. Firstly the grasping Swedes have shown their hands once more, the Reichstag have been most unwise in inviting such a force into their country, this will not return them to the days of old. Finally, we initially looked with bemusement at the FK attempts to stamp out Opium production in afganistan, but upon the recent actions of the Portugese king, we see the compeling reason for their action. France or the FK are but to shrug and Portugal will be gone from the map!

To The New Tsar of Muscovy

We look with happiness on your new reforms and overturning of a aristocracy seamed with corruption, should this positive attitude continue, and in light of the worsening situation in Europe; we would consider offering you a defensive alliance. May the children of Rus stand together!

To Qing China

Our NAP will expire at the end of next year, we feel it has served us well and should be extended. Don't you agree?

One of your letters was upside-down. I for one would be most worried by someone having a 'temporary' buildup - it means they are planning to do something.

@das: Didn't I increase army training this year?

We suggest that you withdraw from our nation. Your invasion is unjust and will not succed. We were able to inflict high casulties on the French army, which is supposed to be one of the best in the world. We are willing to negotiate. As a note: We still possess a number of French hostages. With your hostile acts their future is uncertain..

Open Letter to the Crown Heads of Europe

Having with much effort and sacrifice secured for our Nation the fruits of liberty and independence which define a free State, it is now the desire and obligation of this Government to normalize and legitimize that State before God and man by restoring to the head of a rightful King the ancient and holy Crown of St. Stephen. The great dynasty of old having been eliminated by conquest, and the valourous Hungarian nobility having been reduced in number and dignity by centuries of occupation, it has become necessary that a Monarch be chosen from among the great families of Europe. Those qualities which we seek in a King are those same which any other Nation might pray for: honesty, integrity, intelligence, health, bravery, piety, and martial talent. He should be a man of royal blood and of appropriate age, old enough to reign in his own right, yet young enough still to sit on St. Stephen's throne without a foot already in the grave. He should be prepared to honour the customs and rights of the Magyar nation, and to accept his role within the constitutional framework of the Hungarian State. It is also necessary, for the eternal preservation of this State and of amicable dynastic relations, that he be not an immediate heir to the throne of his family's own home Kingdom. While this Government does not desire personal union, it does wish for dynastic alliance. It shall be hoped that whichever family tenders the new King to this State will also assist in the vital work of nation-building, by way of economic aid and military expertise, as one member of a family would be expected to help another. Hungary, while an ancient nation, is in its new incarnation a young Kingdom, and shall provide any King-elect with great opportunity for the future. My Government sincerely hopes the fine princes of Europe will take this opportunity.

Respectfully,
Chancellor Lajos Kossuth
Regent, Kingdom of Hungary

Well it would, if you used 'of' in acronyms! You, good sir, lose.

OOC: :p

But OOC is still the accepted acronym for Out of Character, nonetheless. Regardless of whatever OCC means. Your interpretation would make the acronym OC, which is...well, a mediocre TV show.

Now das, due to the recent arrest/percecution/whatever of the liberals in Poland, do I have permission to use for my stories a certain Polish scientist, who never made his famous discovery in OTL?

To Dalnorossia
From Sweden

We find it funny that Dalnorossia came to the aid of allies to invade Turkmenistan during the Central Asian war, and came under no critism, yet the Swedish government comes to the aid of the new Prussian government, who wish for freedom from their iron-fisted Kaiser and we are critised for it.

Also, it is not your position to foresee the Swedish Government's actions in regards to the New Prussian government, as your insinuation that Sweden will not help our allies is frankly very insulting. Remember that before Dalnorossia comments on a situation that it has no involvement in.

@Ottomans: Why the enormous military build up? Surely you are not planning a repeat of your earlier vicious expansionism! And after we thought you had changed...

OCC: Paranoid much Iggy?

We assure you, this military buildup is not for offensive war.

OCC is one city challenge in civilization. And yes, I'm quite paranoid.

IC: Dalnorossia remembers Swedens 'aid' in the nine years war, why we need only ask any russian in Novgorad to refresh our memory of that...

@Ottomans: Hmmm, if you say so. At least you seem foresighted now - you can easy assist your ally in his war! (Indeed we are suprised you have not already declared so...)

Speech to the Parliament by Lord John Russell,
The Foreign Secretary of the Federated Kingdoms

earl-russell.jpg

Lord John Russell, one of the oldest members of the Federated Kingdoms' Parliament and a member of all previous administrations, whether liberal or conservative, for the last two decades. His negotiation skills have been praised at home and put make many foreign diplomats nervous when they have to deal with him. His strong, imposing personality and his refusal to compromise have earned him as many critics abroad as friends at home.

The old politician got up slowly from his chair when the Speaker announced that the Parliament will now hear him. The noise quited down as he walked up to the podium, all members of the Parliament wanted to know what the Government was going to do about the war in Europe and wether the Federated Kingoms were going to actively fight on the side of the Holy Roman Empire. As he begun to speak his voice echoed off the walls of the building.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Parliament!

"You all know why I am here today. I will brief you on the events of the last months in Europe and other places in the World and present the policy this Government seeks to adopt in relation to them."

His formal, matter-of-fact voice stunned some members who expected him to make a passionate plea for war. They leaned further in as he shuffled a few papers and then continued.

"The political situation in Germany is very difficult. The Kaiser has disbanded the Reichstad and has asumed full and direct control over all of the government - an authoritarian move that is not in line with the believes of the Federated Kingdoms that all people have the right to partake in their government.

"This authoritarian move has sparked much conflict within the Holy Roman Empire. The minorities that have been oppressed historically in the country have now joined forces with the people who seek to promote democracy and liberty in an attempt to make the Kaiser see reason and re-instate the democratic institutions that he was so hasty to dismantle.

"The Government finds it disturbind that the country of Sweden chose to interfere in the domestic affairs of the Holy Roman Empire. We issue our strongest warning and condemnation to the government of Sweden and express our sincerest hope that the only purpose for the intervention is to aid the people of Germany in establishing a democratic and free government, and not to grab land from the Holy Roman Empire when it is in turmoil, or to expand the Swedish influence and deny the Holy Roman Empire its sovereignty. We continue to monitor the situation closely.

"A number of members of Parliament have brought up the issue of the Defensive Pact that the Federated Kingoms has with the Holy Roman Empire and have urged the Government to act under its provisions and intervene in the Empire. The question is: on whos side? Do the members of Parliament urge us to intervene on the side of the Kaiser who suspended the democratic process and has repressed his people or the side of the seemingly democratic Reichstad, which is, however, fighting a war against other Germans? We feel that the members of Parliament who ask for this intervention are simply trying to find an excuse for the Federated Kingdoms to intervene in continental Europe, and we will not have it. German affairs are their own, and while we will make sure no foreign nation takes advantage of the German people we will not intervene and take sides in an internal struggle. We wish the people of Germany a speedy and succesful resolution of this internal stuggle.

"Our non-interventionist policy can not hold in other places however. The nation of Portugal has invaded the German colony of Neugranada, assaulting numerous poorly fortified outposts and illeagally occupying them. This act of agression cannot be left unpunished. The nation of Portugal cannot claim, like Sweden has, that they are simply intervening on the rightful side of the Civil War in Germany. The colony of Neugranada has not taken any actions to support neither the Kaiser nor the Reichstad. We must therefore assume that this is a blatant act of agression against a nation we have a Defensive Pact with, for the sole purpose of expanding Portugal's empire.

"If you will recall, Ladies and Gentlemen, Portugal has, just two years ago, invaded a peaceful Incan Empire in South America with the same purpose, and it was only due to the efforts of the Federated Kingdoms that the conflict was resolved quickly and relatively peacefully. What we see today in Neugranada is yet another incarnation of the same horrific abberation that is Portugese agression and imperialism. This time Portugal has gone too far.

"We have always stood by our allies and we will continue to do so now and in the future. The Federated Kingoms will defend the Holy Roman colony of Neugrenada from further Portugese agression. In addition Portugal has two weeks to accept responsibility for this act and begin full and unconditional withdrawal from Neugrenada. Furthermore, Portugal will pay six million pounds to the Holy Roman Empire after the internal crisis in the country is over for the damage inflicted upon the colony. Even further, as punishment for its aggressive actions over the last three years Portugal will dismantle its fleet and limit it to no more than fiveteen squadrons of ships and will pay the Federated Kingdom four million pounds for the trouble it has caused. In addition to that the Porguese ports in South America and Africa will be opened to all Federated Kingdoms' ships. Portugal has already been notified of these conditions and we await their reply.

"Sadly we have little reason to believe that the governmen of Portugal, that has acted so unreasonably and aggressively to this point, will accept these conditions. Because of that Ladies and Gentlement the Government now comes to you with the following request. Due to the fact that the nation of Portugal has invaded the Holy Roman colony of Neugranada, and due to the fact that the Federated Kingdoms have a Defensive Pact with the Holy Roman Empire the Government asks today for the Members of Parliament to aprove the use of force against Portugal.

"This hydra, this medusa of Porguese aggression and imperialism has gone on living long enough. We must, as a country today, honour the commitments we have and stand up to aggression and meet force with force. The Federated Kingdoms is a beakon of light and freedom for many around the world, and now it is time to live up to the expectations that are placed upon us.

"I hope...no...I know that you will back the Government on this and do what you all now needs to be done. Thank You."

The Parliament proceeded to discuss the request from the Government. The conservatives, who were prepared to rebutt the proposal to go to war with Sweden were taken a back by the proposal, and many of them did not wish to oppose it at all. After a short and one-sided debate the Parliament voted 118 to 12 to aprove the use of force against Portugal. Only the Bondevennene Party from Norway voted against.

OOC: I'm confused why the FK is simultaneously criticizing the HRE for being authoritarian, defaulting on it's Defensive Pact by refusing to attack Sweden, and then declaring war on Portugal, on the grounds that it is attacking the authoritarian nation that they just snubbed.

Double standard maybe? Agreeing to defend the colony, but refusing to defend the homeland...

Not that Persia cares or anything, it's your affair, but still.

EDIT: I think that since HRE S. America is regulation gray, it supports the Kaiser still.
