NESLife attempt #3

just drop any water retention genes...then they would be required to live in the water again

Spoiler :
Primus Lupivus: Grombar
Evolved from: Glaciavalion
Survival Status: Thriving
Genes (39): Complex Stomach x2, Flesh Eating x4, Swimming x1, Vibration Sense x3, Eyes x3, Brain Power x2, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x3, Water Retention x3, Lungs x1, Walking x4, Climbing x1, Parenting Instinct x2, Strength x2, Fur x2, Live Birth x1
Description: With the development of live birth the Primus Lupivus started out life with more fully formed senses. Over time this lead to the adult Primus Lupivus having greater eyesight and hearing. Also, the further development of fur helped keep the cold and wet off their skin.

Lupivus Secus
Genes Added: Cold Resistance x1, Live Birth x1, Pack Hunting x1
Genes Removed: None
Description: With the further development of Live Birth the Lupivus packs where able to stay more mobile. Though a few would have to stay with the younger cubs. Thus the part of the pack that went out for food during the younger months before the Lupivus Cubs could start to travel with the older ones started to develop a style of pack hunting. Along with this came the development of a true cold resistance added on to the fur they had been growing for generations now.

Announcement: I will start updating on wednesday, so if any more evolutions are to be posted, please do so by tuesday night.

The only way i can think to encourage speciation is somehow introducting a more negative effect of adding genes.. so that often the evolution is merely different, rather than an "updated" version of the old one.

I see the wisdom of this! I could start by having a 'branching' bonus each turn, instead of the 'survival' one. I will think of some other way of rewarding players for having succesful creatues of various kinds.

edit: I should also say im still treating creatures with more genes as being more complicated and energy-demanding, though it depends on what the genes are exactly.

Do they need any special genes to live underwater.

No, its kinda another of the anomolies in this NES :o Though I will assume that anything with lots of water retention won't be able to work underwater.

Well if something were to try and return to the water, it needs to be able to deal with salinity, boyancy issues.. so use your imagination!

a surprising amount of things returned to the sea, but had to make quite a few adaptions.

"Salinity resistance" "pressure resistance" etc spring to mind

Also, once something is specialized to have lungs, it takes a lot of evolution to make it fully aquatic again.

Yeah well Zeeboo's don't have lungs lol. Although judging by what the previous zeeboos' owner was doing its quite possible they wopuld have ende up with them at some point lol. I mean, why does a plant need a brain anyway?

Spoiler Previous Evolution :
Gregarix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Saaranix
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (30): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x4, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x2, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x3, Water Retention x3, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x2, Eyes x1, Walking x3, Flesh Eating x1, Brain Power x1, Live Young x1, Smelling x1, Vibration Sense x1
Description: Being the only member of Venatorixidae to survive the Knoganic Mass Extinction Event, the Saaranices were unexpectedly put into an unprecedented position to expand into new roles. Embracing their recently redeveloped herbivorous nature, Gregarices evolved. These creatures are effective and eficcient grazers, roaming through the lands of Orania in vast herds.

Evolves to...

Velocirix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Gregarix
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Communal Behaviour (up to x2), Eyes (up to x2), Smelling (up to x2) Walking (up to x4)
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): Flesh Eating
Description: The Gregarix continued to develop into an effective pack herbivore. Its descendant, the Velocirix, is a fast and sociable animal. It has powerful senses, to avoid predators, and has grown more social as a secondary defense mechanism. Its meat-eating, a relic of a predatory past, has completely disappeared, allowing the digestive system to specialize in breaking down plants. Often, when confronted with attackers which they can’t outrun, the adults will form a defensive perimeter around the young, warding off or even killing the predators.

@Lord_Iggy, Velocirix sounds cool!

Well I think the main difficulty is giving birth at sea. I've no problem with things like otters and seals evolving in a relatively short time.

Fully aquatic. Whales are still tied to the surface, I mean. Not land, but they are still more vulnerable than older denizens of the sea.

Pre Legger: erez87
Evolved from: LandScraper
Survival Status: Struggling
Genes (17) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Lungs x3, Walking x3
Description: A new small animal that appeared in Lemunesia. Evolved from the LandScraper, they had to learn to walk faster to escape predators. Rather than running back to the already full seas they begun to go deeper into the land. Their lungs capacity grew as well as their legs - becoming more efficient, allowing them to run from the large predators all around them. They were also very small - hiding in small holes and vegetation from predators. They were sometimes known to use their larger than normal digging animals size to throw diggers out of their own holes to hide until danger leaves and than running away to another place. Fast walking and small size was their trade mark at this era. They were Ok swimmers allowing them to move across the islands of Lemunesia to reach extra lands. Soon they reached larger continents in this way and it is presumed - but still not known - that they also appeared on Heftulania. Only few remains were seen there thought those may have come on predators bellies rather than from their own little living bodies.

Burial Legger : erez87
Evolved from: pre-legger
Gene added : Burrowing +2, Walking +1.
Gene removed : Swimming -1.

Burial Legger: erez87
Evolved from: Pre Legger
Survival Status:
Genes (19) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x1, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Lungs x3, Walking x4, Burrowing x2
Description: The Burial Legger appeared in the continent of Falciria in a great cold age of the planet. They were fast and agile creatures that ran across the lands, most of the time almost impossible to catch. Yet that was not all. It is now a well based opinion that Pre-leggers stole caves and burrows from other animals, the Burial Legger took that to the next level. Being larger than most burying animals it usually preferred to use it's size to scare away smaller burring animals off their holes and than use it's own burying abilities to expand the cave systems for it's own. It could also make holes by it's own but usually it chose to take over others. The digging front legs were also now used from time to time as weapons against the animals that didn't scare away from their holes at first sight.

OOC With all the Ice forming shouldn't water levels get much lower?
Oh and to all people that say we are being too linear. The Pre legger is probably one of the animals to have the most evolutions to come out of it, and it will have more if it keeps on surviving. I do have the Finners and newer leggers to expand thought... i need to make a survivor animal like mammals so next great extinction i'll take the place of dinos in our world.

Oh and DAFT, what eats Arrow Finners and are they successful still?

So IggyPunches are for uncreativity, and AbbyPunches are for double posts? You've got a lot of catch-up work to do. ;)

Well i am adept at the dp :D

hmmm, perhaps your right. I think Alex was most vexed with my dp's give it to him.

Yes, although altering the coastlines of the whole world map is something of a time-consuming task, as opposed to just moving and rotating and tweaking things :)

Abaddon said:

The Kingvalions may hunt them by day, the Bold Hunters and Radarexes by night. Though, not may will get eaten. With their superior senses and speed and brain power, they are hardly the most popular prey to go after. 'Competing' means that they have a healthy population and a fair share of available food and habitat etc.

Double post. I am forever shamed.

Be ashamed not, for the divine glory of NESing is within you all!

On a side note, is there a limit to the number of pages any thread should have? Is there a technical limit, or just a preference of the moderators? Im wondering if I should make a new thread sometime, like after 200 pages or something :)

PS I wish to share this random image which i forgot to put in the last update :

Hi I'm kinda new at NESs but this one looks easy enough so I'll give a shot at it...

New Species:
Sulfur Protist: bestshot9
Genes (you can start with three):
1. Protist with nuclei and cell walls and celia
2. Can withstand intense heat
3. Feeds on sulfure
Description:

A protist species that lives in under sea vents. It can withstand intense heat temperatures and feeds on sulfur and is non reliant on sunlight to produce energy. Because it lives in such a harsh enviroment I don't think it will have to worry about to many predators (maybe I'm wrong? Sorry if I didn't do this the right way.)

Bathyscaper: North King
Evolved from: Plankton
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (3): Mineral Eating x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Eating Dead Things x1

AND

Bathystower: NPC
Evolved from: Bathyscaper
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (5): Mineral Eating x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Large Size x1, Heat Resistance x1
Description: Over countless millions of years, the Bathyscaper slowly evolved into a new form. The Bathystower can survive next to the hot volcanic vents on the sea floor, and thrive on the extra minerals found there. They grow much taller and wider than their ancestors, forming elegant spires in the dark depths.

are very simular creatures to what you posted. Unlikely that daft would take it as a "new" creature, but you could still do that as an evolution. Use the Bathystower, remove the eating dead things and large size genes and add your #1 which I'm not sure what that would be within game, so someone more knowledgeable than I would have to advise you on what you could add.

Aside from that...Welcome to the game :D and have fun.

Daft generally doesn't like making all new species, but that animal could easily evolve from a Bathy- (though it would be far more advanced than a Protist- all of the life here is fairly large).
