NESLife attempt #3

Hi CJ! Welcome to NESLife!

@cvlowe- Yes, but there's been a lot of plant life for a very long time. Phytoplankton is the basis of our food chains, and has been that way since before the Fangsterous era.

Shoot! i missed another update, at least nothing of "mine" went extinct this turn!

Flying Form: marauder68
Evolved from: Flying ang
Genes added: Flesh eating x1, Cartilage x1
Genes removed: plankton eating x1
Genes (14): Plankton Eating x2, Swimming x3, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Cold Resistance x1, Flying x2, Jaws x1, Flesh eating x2, cartilage x1
Description: the Flying fang gradualy evolved into the creature known as the flying form. It developed even more of a taste for meat and lost some dependence on plankton which works out well because meat gives more energy. It also developed a primitive skeleton which gives it more stability both swimming and in the air. Being still the fastest swimmer in the ocean combined with its flying ability to escape into the air means they can escape any other predator.

(I was going to add a skeleton!! Can only add so much in a turn though.)

Flying Phantom: Abaddon
Evolved from: Flying fin
Genes Before(13): Plankton Eating x3, Swimming x3, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Cold Resistance x1, Flying x2, Jaws x1, Flesh eating x1

Genes Added: Flying x1, Flesh eating x 1
Genes Lost: Vibration Sense x 1, Planction Eating x 1

Genes After(13): Plankton Eating x2, Swimming x3, Eyes x1, Cold Resistance x1, Flying x3, Jaws x1, Flesh eating x2

---------------------------------------

The Flying Phantom - the timid animal that first used its flight for escape is now using it for attack! Rising into the air its improved control in flight allows it to ambush its prey. Its greater dependance on flesh comes at a reduction in planction eating. It has even been seen catching the flying fin midflight- launching itself out of the water into the fin's flightpath.

(Even with three picks, it's still difficult chosing. Nothing revolutionary this turn, just improvements on the current design!)

Orange Hunter
Evolved from Blue Hunter
Genes added: Flesh eating +1, Jaws x1, Gills +1
Genes (16): Flesh eating x3, Complex Stomach x1, Vibration Sense x1, Smelling x1, Swimming x2, Cartilage x1, Gills x2, Fangs x1, Jaws x1, Live Young x1, Pack Hunting x1, Cold Resistance x1

As the Hunters evolve, they become even more efficient at drawing energy from their food supply. However, having an efficient stomach doesn't mean a lot if you can't get food into it. The Cartilage structure of the Hunters evolved into fully articulated jaws. Where the fangs could tear up a prey, scattering a good portion of it's nutrition about the sea, jaws allow the Hunter to bite chunks out of its victims. Less food gets scattered that way, and more food makes it into the creatures stomach to fuel further hunting. This also opens up another food source- shelled creatures. While not their preferred food, it is a valuable option in leaner times.

As they grow more complex and consume more flesh, their metabolism keeps increasing. They compensated for this with improved gills, increasing the flow of oxygen into their blood and allowing them to maintain high activity levels for longer periods of time.

Old Species: Zibbler-21: Splime
Species evolved from: Dibbler-Revolution
Genes (6): Crawling x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Complex Stomach x1, Fangs x1, Water Retention x2,
Description: The Zibbler-21 has evolved to have a complex stomach and fangs, which will hopefully increase the energy capability of the species, and add a slightly larger range in its diet.

New Species:
Zebbler-23: Splime
Evolved from: Zibbler-21
Genes added (max 2): Flesh Eating x1, Crawling x1
Genes removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): After the lack of success of the Zobbler-22, a new evolution led to the creation of the Zebbler-23, a form of the Zibbler that can extract more energy from prey, and is faster too. Hopefully this evolution will lead to a more flexible dead-thing-eater.

Oh, BTW, is there any reward to making those charts... *hint* *hint* ;)

EDIT: Scratch my evolution. I'll let someone else fiddle with the Dibbler/Zibbler families, and I'll find something else to fiddle with.

I wonder why most enjoy evolving their own creature along a line, and not cause deviations like i do.

Branch people branch!

It would be almost fun if you were only allowed to stick with one lineage 2 turns in a row before you have to swap

Actualy you evolved from the flying fang, not the flying fin! And besides how is a deaf version of my creature going to catch the others? :p

good to see other evolutions of my creature though!

Geluryte: Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Esturyte
Genes (10): Crawling x2, Digging x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x1, Water Retention x1, Plant Eating x1, Cold Resistance x1
Description: The simple communal holes used by Esturyte families have developed dramatically in this offshoot of the Esturyte lineage. Geluryte claws have become shovel-like, and are used to dig long networks of tunnels. These tunnels grant access to the roots of plants, shelter from predators, and, shelter from the cold for the northern populations of this versatile creature.

Evolves to...

Respiryte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Geluryte
Gene added (max 2+1): Lungs, Complex Stomach, Claws
Gene removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): As the Gelurytes thrived and became more widespread, so did other species. Clans had to be composed of only the fittest of the fit to survive. The evolution of the Respiryte was the result. These animals are descended from the strongest Geluryte family groups, and have three main attributes which set them above the competition- firstly, their primitive 'aqualungs' (primitive land-gills which need to be kept damp) have developed into full-fledged air-breathing lungs, secondly, their primitive digestive system has advanced from a simple tube plan to a multi-stage system, with a stomach for breaking down the toughest edible materials, and a long tract for nutrient absorbtion, and thirdly, they have developed powerful claws at the ends of their scuttling legs- very useful for digging, but valuable for fighting off predators and rivals as well.

Yes, but most of it has been water-based. I meant with the explosion of life on shore in recent millennia, there would be more Oxygen available in the air!

I wonder why most enjoy evolving their own creature along a line, and not cause deviations like i do.

I have wanted to experiment with something different, but up until now, I've been struggling to keep my hunters alive. If they continue to thrive, I may try something different next turn.

fin/fang. I blame Daft's stats.. thats where i copied from (i think!) :p

deaf? vibrations may work in the water, but when i plunge from the skys, vision is all i need

Hmm. Branch off each other's lines and declare war! How entertaining! I'll grab a  , sit back and watch this one

Well, I've changed my mind, and I will try evolving a different line as well... let the insanity begin!

Target #1: cvlowe

I have done this several times, but my dibblenippon or whatever it was called lost out as i missed and update.. my bublemon is surviving.. and several others of mine are.

Sadly i think lushen will dissapear this turn as i cannot evolve it, and others will.

DP. Perhaps you could play more creatures and NPC evolve them?

Target #1: cvlowe

Bring it! Competition actually increases survivability :D

Name: Fanel
Evolved from: Fenal
Genes (16): Photosynthesis x4, Plant Eating x1, Water Retention x2, Acid x2, Piercing Spikes x1, Crawling Roots x1, Stem x2, Leaves x2, Cold Resistance x1
New Genes: carpeting x1, Roots x1
Lost Genes: Plant Eating x1, Crawling roots x1(?)
End Result: Genes (16): Photosynthesis x5, Water Retention x2, Acid x2, Piercing Spikes x1, Roots x1 (?x2?), Stem x2, Leaves x2, Cold Resistance x1

The Fanel was the bastards child of the Fenal population. havening abandoned any and all attempts at mobility and preying upon others, their roots having grown in length to form permanent attachments to the soil. weirdly enough, this also produced a secondary effect in that without their constant, though slow, movement, they tended to now grow in clusters. soon, the Fanel in these clusters started to grow together, their roots entwining and effectively becoming a single, multi-stemmed plants.

OOC: not sure if I can change the crawling roots into just roots, but eh, I don't care. change it if I can, just eliminate it if I can't.
direction I headding in this is getting rid of the inefective plant eating, and the high energy Gene of crawling roots.
and Yes, I know about the Extra Gene. I think I will save it for now. I have no use for it this turn. though, if I must use it, Add it to photosynthesis.

Trying to decide if I want to do one more round with my *did's or move onto something new for an update or 2 and see if he can survive to come back to later.

Old Species: Blue Hunter: cvlowe
Evolved from Purple hunter
Genes (13): Cartilage x1, Gills x1, Flesh eating x2, Swimming x2, Smelling x1, Vibration Sense x1, Fangs x1, Live Young x1, Complex Stomach x1, Pack Hunting x1, Cold resistance x1
Description: Only those Purple hunters that were better efficient at extracting nutrients from flesh really survived, especially in the lean times. this worked to weed out those who were not as efficient resulting in an improved flesh eating gene. With the development of cold resistance, however these predators found a rich feeding ground- and most importantly, less competition.

New Species:
Cyan Hunter: Splime
Evolved from: Blue Hunter
Genes added (max 2): Mass Reproduction x1, Complex Stomach x1
Genes removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): Extra mutations have occurred in the Blue Hunter, to allow for more energy from the stomach, and more offspring in order to dominate the seas. After all, nothing can be worse than being faced with 5000 Cyan Hunters that are full of energy.
