NESLife VI

Patchy, check the Conversation between Nintz and me on our walls.

Edit: Walls... what are they called, here?

Profiles?

Horodsorber
Ancestor: Horod
Selective Pressure: Risks of Dessication
The Horodsorber has developed a series of thick branches extending out from the main trunk, all connected to the tree's Central Vascular system. At the end of these, vast bulbous photosynthetic leaf structures that, during rain, open to accept as much water/ammonia as possible, and, when it is dry, partially close prevent desiccation. This allows the Hoborod to survive even in drier periods, and, as a side effect, can support other kinds of life.

(If I can fit it in, I'd also like to add this mutation.)
The leaves that create these reservoirs secrete a small amount of an enzyme that helps to break down dead organisms within the reservoirs, giving the Horodsorber a small nutrient boost.

Thoughts?

And it's symbiotic partner.

Organism: Deva
Ancestor: Tashe
Selective Pressure: Increasing scarcity of primary food sources.
Mutation: Proper jaw to break shells off of Haerent. With the overabundance of Haerent on land, and the general lack of food available to the Maves, the Deva has added a solid jaw to its mouth, allowing it to easily break off the shells of the Haerent. To survive on arid land, the Deva make extensive use of the Horodsorbers. Their external leave structure easily capture rainwater, and provide safe havens for the Devas on land. Another effect of the Devas are allowing the Horodsorbers to live in peace, free from the unchecked menace that is the Haerent.

Also would like to hear some others' thoughts on this.

EDIT: X-Post.

Like I said to Thomas. There would be no place for you to get water as the Haerends would chew holes through the leaf structures of the Horodsorbers and then there would be no water for your guys. They only need a couple bites at most to make a hole and there goes all the water.

Valid point. Will attempt to address.

All the water is frozen.

...

What?

>.>

Yeah. It's ammonia. And don't we forget it!

Apparently we do, I blame muscle memory for not learning to substitute deadly ammonia for life giving water when typing on a this particular NES thread. :p

If it makes you feel better, I very regularly say water when I should be saying ammonia. Solvent memory is hard to overcome!

Also the most straightforward way to reduce Haerent population is probably just to evolve a climbing predator (possibly from the Haerents themselves)- but I always enjoy the unexpected things that players do. :)

Basically what I was telling them, hopefully they listen to you.

Patchy, you evolve what you want, I'll evolve what I want. I don't care what's a safe bet, I'm going with what's more interesting.

Why would I hope for them to listen to me? I would prefer that people take the knowledge I provide through this NES, then evolve whatever they'd like. Thomas seems to have the right spirit in approaching this. :)

Spoiler :
Organism: Ileum
Description: An armoured terrestrial grazer with 10 muscular, articulated legs for swift locomotion, jaws and a simple digestive tract, fat storage, multiple peripheral hearts in an open circulatory system, nostrils and primitive lungs, and two primitive stalked eyes.
Niche: Terrestrial armoured omnivore.

Organism: Maxilla
Selective pressure: Competition with Estabils leads to scarce food at times.
Mutation: The Maxilla has evolved to fill the predator niche by having the front two feet move to the sides of the body and develop a single tusk-like structure suited for breaking through the armor of the Estabils allowing them to eat the flesh.

OOC: Zerglings will be made no matter how many failed evolutions I have to go through in order to make them!

The Svis and Galasvis have been doing fantastically, because they are the ONLY TWO FREAKING SESSILE FILTER FEEDERS ON THE PLANET. :p

On Earth today we have sea squirts, countless polychaete worms, sea anemones, bivalves, corals, barnacles, sponges, and more groups than I could conceivably name, who all don't move, and feed by filtering. :p

just as impressive: zeppu.
Evolved back in epoch 3...And it's currently epoch 11. And it's not like it's had no competitors except just one descendant family.
No, it's only had To compete with almost the producers on the moon, all but two not its descendant.

Spoiler :

Organism: Paripu
Description: A gaseous sac with a photosynthetic skin, pseudopredatory tendrils, limited desiccation resistance and budding young.
Niche: Hovering primary producer

Organism: Purple Dust
Selective pressure: age, cosmic radiation
Mutation: Purple dust is a fairly simple organism, compared to their Paripu ancestors, having lost much of their complexity and size. Reduced to simple dust mote sized gas-filled spheres, with simple tenticals to cling to each other, they have gained the ability to bud faster and in larger numbers.

basically, large, living clouds of air-born dust. the plankton of the skys. also going to end up covering everywhere the wind is still.
