Update 4
Mayor Iggy strode around the newly-paved streets of Fort Roden.
“Nice place you’ve got here General…”
“Roden”.
“Roden… hmm, is it a bit egotistical to name the city after yourself?”
“Is it a bit egotistical to declare yourself of a mayor of a town that is almost entirely out of your control?”
“Touche.”
Roden led Iggy into the large medical facility in the town.
“So this is where Thlayli got put?”
“Yes, right in this long-term care ward.”
“Where? In that empty bed?”
Both paused, eyes widened.
“Carp.”
A few Neo Highlandcow residents, in a violent protest against the Greenvilleian powerplant, destroyed the powerline leading to Greenville after accidentally electrocuting about half of their group. It was quickly repaired with some minor annoyance, particularly from Mayor Iggy, who was about to beat Darius in the final stage Need for Speed: Carbon.
With the power station apparently safe, no one expected several Klerikstanian stealth bulldozers to sneak in the next night and destroy Greenville’s Natural Gas power plant. Renograd’s better-defended wind farm is now providing power to most of the area. Security has been raised at all other plants as well.
The Carmenella Republique has been founded across the river from Logan. It hasn’t done much, as you can tell from the amount of text it gets.
Renograd, Epstonia, and Bordo Ovest all grow quietly and prosper, despite several attacks against their wind turbines.
Luckytoningfieldville City and Port-au-Julien are also doing well, engaging in mutual trade and employment exchanges with Allijae.
Stalintopia remains as oppressive, if not more oppressive, than ever. Its local gulag/prison has been replaced with a maximum-security state penitentiary, filled with only the most violent and psychotic individuals available. Stalin is pleased.
Nikosia expands onto Kallipolis’ peninsula, much to the outrage of the locals. There has already been fighting, preventing the Nikosians from even building a road off the bridge.
Due to the recent violence, military and extraterrestrial problems, a force under the command of General Roden has been sent to secure the area. However, this force is both small and undersupplied. Due to a lack of military funding, the command center, barracks, and armory are all in the nearby forest. And by ‘in the forest’ we mean ‘is the forest’.
In Farowville, a massive pit has been dug to house the recently-found giant Kuhli Loach. It is growing quickly on a diet of bureaucrats. This has, naturally caused an exodus of most smart bureaucrats, to the jubilation of the rest of Farowville’s population.
People are also beginning to suggest building roads to neighbouring Greenville. The debate was ended when Greenville decided to do this itself.
Iggy, annoyed with a lack of running water, spent his summer holidays putting in a water main to Greenville (or more specifically, his house). With a sudden supply of water, a horde of rich, educated, and thirsty people moved in. The value of water systems is proven.
Blackbanana continues to grow and pollute. To BananaLee’s delight the buildings are all now a pleasant shade of brownish grey. However, he is still not winning the pollution crown, which belongs to Nikosia’s western island. In order to try and surpass Nikosia, a dump has been built. Hopefully, a road will be built too, to allow all of the cities garbage to pour into Blackbanana.
A small conflict was started when a group of Loach Hunters passed by Blackbanana on a Friday. Unfortunately, they were unaware of the locals’ tradition of eating fishermen on Fridays.
Logan has continued its growth. The economy is strong in all ways, except for its nonagricultural industrial sector. The people suggest that dirty industrial should be built- as close to New Las Vegas as possible.
Late one night, a large sound was heard in New Las Vegas. It was not a jubilant gambler, or another drunken riot. But a group of bulldozers attacking the casino.
The local army veterans-turned casino entrepreneurs fought off the bulldozers with some of their own, but it was not enough to prevent terrible damage to the casino. However, the building proved to be extremely sturdy, and the shored-up structure still stands and entertains the local populace.
Allijae has established full primary and secondary education for its population, much to local jubilation (and those in Luckytoningfieldville City and Port-au-Julien who are close enough to attend school on the island).
Chipton has become increasingly belligerent towards its neighbours, building a wall of polluting industry on its border with clean Greenville, demolishing the power line to Klerikstan (though it was probably helping Chipton more than its crossriver neighbour), establishing ‘Colonial Chipton’ between Klerikstan and New Las Vegas, and attempting to summon UFOs to destroy everything in their vicinity (they were actually disturbingly close to successful, as you will soon see). Someone’s really asking for it.
Thlayli, after having woken up from his coma and escaped the hospital, called down another NAO orbital command center to destroy Iggy’s mansion (for some reason blaming Iggy instead of the Poachers for the destruction of NAO Chi Minh City). Fighting metagame with metagame, Iggy called in several Penguinskan vessels to intercept NAO in high atmosphere.
A ferocious battle took place, to the delight of local stargazers. Debris rained down on NESopolis for a few days afterwards (landing only in uninhabited areas, though one burned down a small part of eastern Neo Highlandcow). It is not known who won, but a NAO landing pod was sent to pick up Thlayli and bring him back to wherever he came from, suggesting a difficult victory for NAO, or a retreat of the Penguinskans after crippling the orbital bombardment systems of the Command Center. Speculation continues to run rampant.
Throughout the city, an idea is spreading of creating a railroad to transport industrial goods out of the city and to its distant neighbours.
Finally, at the end of this eventful year, the regional government finally got its act together and gave Roden his military base. Several tanks were pilfered away before they arrived, and have fallen into the hands of virtually every community in NESopolis.
