I'd also tend to consider the Caucasus as its own region that is transitional between West Asia (aka the Near East or Middle East) and Central Asia (as well as Europe, to a lesser degree) with features of all three regions, though perhaps closest to West Asia given its long history of domination by Persia/Iran.
