Neverwinter Nights 2 replacement?

It's not the content that's the problem. You can buy(with real money) potions that make you stronger. That's the big problem.

Those are microtransactions and they aren't solely a free-2-play phenomena. I also have a problem with complaints about them since MMORPGs aren't some kind of balanced arenas necessarily. Granted some MMORPGs are primarily PvP in arena (e.g. Warhammer online) and some free2play are basically just duels that should be balanced to be fun.

For free2play in non-RPG environments (e.g. some kind of FPS or RTS battle) where there is a strict ladder system then I would be mad about players buying to the top. But even then, the free2play can tone down the strength of the purchases and split them up so it's not the same as spend hard currency = no need for skill. I feel people need to play more free2play games before assuming that is the case for all of them.

I think one thing is also that in free to play games, if you want your customers to spend money, you need to give them something really useful, who want to spend real money on junk? I dont know really. Only free to play Ive played months and still do is APB and Im not complaining, sure some people use "golden" weapons, but I can definitely win.

The plot of a roguelike is just as deep as NWN.

I beg to differ (at least in comparison to NWN2 or BG games; the NWN1 campaign wasn't very good). Roguelikes and MUDs aren't what I'm looking for; I'm looking for a single player game with an actual written plot with characters with personalities and motivations. Something where I can choose between meaningful decisions that affect the course of the game. And ideally more than the Dragon Age:Origins decisions of "do I save the kitten or eat the kitten"-level moral ambiguity.

Real-life. Games are linear however you do them. Game cant make content in front of you. :p

Tabletop RPGs games are of course one but not single playing, you need game master and couple friend. I wouldnt be surprised if people play them nowadays on Skype etc.

Trion World's Defiance is quite interesting case, its TV-series and shooter, what people do in shooter it affects and changes the course of TV-series. Its still in devopment but Im going to check it out.

Also I think you should check those muds, it shouldnt be so hard to make mud where player action really makes different. Its single playing, of course theres game master who you dont never see....

Roguelikes and the TES games don't really have anything in the way of plot or roleplay opportunity.
And my understanding was that Dragon Age wasn't very modable, and so doesn't really have mod campaigns at all?

Sad that there is nothing released since NWN2 and nothing even on the horizon that I know of.

Dragon Age is insanely modable, probably comparable to Civ4 in that regard. It also shares the steep learning curve, which is why there aren't many mods, unfortunately.
One team is working on a BG2 port to Dragon Age, but progress is slow.
