I've gotta ask...is that a lake that Firaxis have decided belongs in Libya/Egypt??

:wow: :nope:

It must be that whatever method they used to transpose coastlines, interpreted the Nile delta as a distinct body of water.

But the nile delta doesn't end almost in the center of Libya. It is only in northeast part of egypt.

I think that one should not take that map too serious. Spain is connected with North Africa, Greece is partially under sea and no strait from Medditerrean Sea to Black sea.

Compared to the other simplifications you mention, adding a "lake" of sorts where there is none is plain weird. No biggie of course lol...but odd nonetheless.

Isn't the map based on old, inaccurate maps? IIRC that's what they was aiming for with this art..

Not this map. This one, while simplified as Hakan-i Cihan mentions, is still a modern "accurate" map. i.e. as accurate as any flat map can be.

Here's the whole thing so you can see what I mean:

Seems like the Arabian peninsula also has two lakes that don't belong there.

Now that I look at it more closely, that map has a really upsetting coastline resolution.

No Strait of Malacca or Gibraltar, Sri Lanka has conjoined itself back with the subcontinent, spurious water bodies as in the OP and in Oman, a hugely exaggerated Qatar and Gulf of Bahrain... and on top of it all a British Isles that look like they've eaten too many pork pies.

As reddit would say, literally unplayable.

Good thing we ain't reddit.

When does that screen appear in the game? Anytime I see PLEASE WAIT its just on a black background, is this some max settings thing?

It also is the map that appears behind the leader spiel in the loading screen.

Ahhh, I play windowed at 1366x768 resolution so that's almost entirely obscured by the text + leader graphic while the map's loading.

Nope Firaxis just adding in extra canal sites for us

This specific screen appears in hot-seat multiplayer between each players turn. I play a bit of hot-seat with my nephews; and as there are no banners or leader in the way, you do look at the map more. I don't have max settings going on either...
