New BTS Interview on IGN (w/ New Screenshots!)

Well, I do agree with others about the broad brushstorkes in creating a "Native American" civ. Totem pole as a barracks for archers? Meh. Let's get the totem pole for a civ that used it. I thought the Iroquois in Civ3 were nicely done. Not sure what could have been done, but let's try and be more accurate.

I am super-excited and hope a friend will mail me a copy, because I will simply not stand for waiting until October when I visit home.

That's for sure. :)
with regards to a new trait? I tend to disagree, Sitting Bull could still be philosophical or even imperialistic or organized.

There are still some pretty cool combos left and Queen Boudica has already claimed the covetted Agg/Char combo, so hopefully that has effective ended the neverending AH threads. Although, Animal Husbandry is an interesting topic. :mischief:

The key might be to guess some other leaders' traits and I am sorry if this has already been done elsewhere. I am looking at remaing combos on the spreadsheet I promptly whipped up after reading the article. I really hope that the new combos from Warloards aren't changed again, cuz I like them :D

Hammurabi -- I can see Oraganized (his code of laws) and financial

Lincoln -- charismatic/philosophical or perhaps the taboo philosphical/industrious combo (esp. since agg/char has been done)

Mayan dude who I forgot the name of right now -- spiritual and imperialistic

Netherlands - financial/expansive. case closed

Unless Thunderfall knows someone that we don't. I really can't think of any worthy new trait, except the diplomatic one myself and others have suggested. Actually, with BtS, this actually might make sense.....hhhmmmmmm :mischief:

Native American is obviously WAY too broad to be historically accurate, but I'm still glad there is some kind of attempt to get them in all in. Likewise, I still want a Pacific Islanders civ, because otherwise I think there'll be none.
I'm pumped for Great Spies. The espionage angle will be a whole new way to spend your money, and Great spies will probably be able to do some awesome crap (like cultural conversion or steal technologies).
That said, the most important thing is the AI. I want 20 civs pounding on each other equally and intelligently, rather than ganging up on the Human or starting the Stone Age with Musketmen.

Mayan dude who I forgot the name of right now -- spiritual and imperialistic

Imperialistic doesn't make much sense for a Mayan leader, as they were never really an "empire".

Don't think so? The Yucatan Peninsula, Southeast Mexico, Belize and Western Honduras is a pretty big chunk of land.

im still keeping my fingers crossed for the eastren roman empier with justinian
uu eather is a
greek firer ship
greek flame thrower
caterphrat

Yeah, I want my Byzantines too. They've been my favorite since before they made their debout in CivIII. I really hope they return, and I don't care what leader they stick with them.

Pretty cool stuff! This is starting to sound like what the vanilla game should have been.:)

Not yet. They haven't said anything about improving naval combat. :(

I thought Leif asked if Sitting Bull would have a second trait or not, regardless of new or old.

"Native American" is a bad name for a civ. I would rather they just use Sioux, like in Civ2. Some would consider Aztecs, Mayas, etc as Native American too.

Ah ha! Well in that case, very funny!!

:please: I hope this and more:
  • Sabotage production in one of the strongest cities so it halts the ability to create more units or halves the available hammers. Good to keep a weakened military or slow a wonder/spaceship build.
  • Disable the use of a resource for x# turns before invading. Helpful if they have access to more than one.
  • Bribe x# units to defect or disband. Maybe even become neutral units, a la Privateer, and initiate an internal war by proxy.
  • Open the gates. Essentially eliminate or halve the defensive bonuses of a city immediately.
  • Frame other civilizations. Cause a large -4 to -6 diplomacy modifier. Good for causing dissent among religious blocks or placing the 'last straw' on already-tense relationships between two civs.

Would be nice if these options carried a :gold: cost with them, too. Nothing crazy like in Civ III, but enough of an investment to effectively nerf some of the more powerful choices and not have a one-single-go-to-choice.

Some sort of unit bribing would be nice. I still remember the good old days in CivII, when you could run rampant with that. I started the Masters of Orion scenario from Fantastic Worlds (the BtS of that game in many respects), and instead of massing forces to claim Orion from the guardian unit, I bribed him and then used him to fortify my own claim on that world. It cost an absolute fortune, but it was worth it.

Perhaps what they need to do in CivIV if they want to implement bribing is have it be less targeted. You could take the Great Spy to an enemy city and select something like Organize Defection. The Great Spy disappears and a random unit from the city is then transfered to your control, perhaps with the overt neutrality thing like Privateers.

I'm betting that bribing is out though. I expect Steal Technology or Incite a Revolt perhaps to be the options available besides normal embassy-type things.

The return of Privateer is a very good news, but why not extending the concept of hidden nationality to land units?.

I mostly play in multiplayer games, and people are often reluctant to attack other players; they are afraid of starting a never ending war.

With hidden nationality land units, it becomes possible to damage opponent's land, cities and units without entering a total war.

By hidden nationality land units, I think about rebels, mercenaries, terrorists. These units would be quiet expensive, and only foot units (I mean no tanks, no planes), to avoid people doing war with army of hidden nationality units.

Specific technologies / buildings would be necessary to build them.

I understand Firaxis may be reluctant to introduce terrorism related concept in Civilization, because of 9/11 and Iraq, but this is part of human civilization (Terrorism is not an invention of the 20th century), it shaped our world.

What do you think?

Like the list so far. Just the Totem Pole thingy is unnecessary imho. To not advance to #1 in the list of the least built city improvement it would have to have an effect that makes it worthwile building. Which could easily make it the Sioux imbalanced, like the early prets of the romans.

Anyways, seems like a thing worth buying compared to Warlords. :)

It's NOT "Native American" civ...

It's Sioux!

Check the official IGN interview out - it says it is Sioux, not Native American civ..
