[R&F] New civ on the horizon! Abilities?

Perhaps eurekas and inspirations for later era techs/civics providing the full 50% boost as opposed to a reduced boost for other civs? To make it comparable to China's, perhaps the Mapuche could also be able to train units without any strategic resources that would otherwise require them on top of the eureka/inspiration boost?

What if defeating (killing?) a technologically superior unit gave you the eureka for that tech, provided you had the prerequisites for it?

After Poland was first included in Civ5, it got a lot of free PR in Poland media about it.

You are right, I did not think of that factor. There aren't a lot of countries with a larger population that are still left out and could be similarly motivated. Yes, Turkey, maybe Vietnam or Argentina, but most of the populous and advanced civilizations are in.

Regardless I hope the civilizations included will be much more than civ5. I don't mind the price, considering how much I play, it's a very good investment.

After Poland was first included in Civ5, it got a lot of free PR in Poland media about it. I suspect Ottomans would get the same bonus.

I am from Poland and well let me tell you, my country in recent years has a huge surge of right wing/conservative/nationalist beliefs. And maybe you could tell this about other countries too, but on top of that Poland already had IMO particularly unhealthy nationalist obsessions, inferiority complex regarding West, megalomania and collective self esteem issues.
That's why many of my countrymen went wild when PL was added to civ. It was like a sign that, finally, a mythical West understood the greatness of Polish nation.
If that sounds ridiculous, well, it is.

And you correctly identify similar issue with Ottomans. Turkey is generally very nationalist country, with widespread obsession over its past greatness, "Turkishness" etc etc. There is a lot of youtube Turkish commenters (as well as paradoxplaza forum members) loudly expressing their zeal, for quite some time every first look video has several of their representatives lol.

However, I say this to point at the fact Poland and Turkey may be some of the countries that treat such deals as video game representation much more seriously and nervously than others :p

Krajzen: I don't understand why you have thousands of literal nazis having parades, while your countrymen were treated like animals by Germans in WW2.

I think you are simplifying things Krajzen.
1. Demanding polish Civ in a game by a polish community and generally, players have a longer history than a recent nationalist trend. Much longer.
2. Hoping for Poland in Civ game has nothing to do with this. I wouldn't consider myself as far right, nationalist. But I'm very happy to have Poland in Civ game. I think that's just normal local patriotism. It's common for everyone to play in a game with a character, fraction easy to identify. Most people in WoW play as a human. Guess why. This character is their avatar in the world. The same with Civ game. It has nothing to do with nationalism. First of all, i want to play as nation easy to identify, understand, and recognize. (generally)
3. I don't really think young right-wingers from Poland (still considering it as a youth's trend) are interested in Civ game, not even mentioning spending over 50 euro for it. :)
4. I wouldn't compare Poland to Turkey. Far right nationalism there is not even comparable with (both scale and intensity) polish, or generally European :)
5. Yes, I agree that days (before polish inclusion into Civ) lots of Poles were well seen in forums demanding polish Civ, and very irritating with their complexes. Even for me.

@Haig not all of them are literal Nazis, but they are just stupid to walk in such march. Again - It's more a trend among the youngs. And almost all of them are ultras football supporters coming from all Poland - so the have their day, and they are well seen that day :/ And a majority of the world than think PL is nazi. bullfeathers.

A thought just occurred to me. If Wallace is the Scottish leader after all, could his LA give him a bonus to converting free cities?

That would be a super cool mechanic for the expansion.

I think they're an excellent candidate for a Loyalty-related leader bonus, even if Robert the Bruce is (rightly) the leader.

Scotland could be interesting if they look at the whole history.

UU: Highland Clansman most likely. Abilities could be varied.
UI: Broch, Distillery, Crannog. Many options.
UA: Great people ( particularly engineers and merchants) or culture focused focusing on the Scottish Englightenment.
LUA: Defensive or bonus to reclaiming your former cities. Could also be bonus to alliances ie the Auld Alliance.

Yeah, I'd like to see something along these lines too. The broch/dun would make a good ancient/early medieval improvement, then I'd feature Highlanders in their late medieval form (the kilt and bagpipe wielding version being more associated with Britain's wars), claymores and all to fight alongside/against pikes. The Scottish Enlightenment would make a terrific ability, and Robert the Bruce is ideal for a loyalty boost (since we've already have a bonus to alliances with Poundmaker and Gilgamesh).

I thought Scotland was crazy when I first heard it, but the more I think about it, the more deservig they seem. Not many massive architectural monuments, but massive scenter of innovation, culture and history. They really are a slam dunk.

Would be hilarious if they got a unicorn icon.

Do Castles count as "massive architectural monuments"? :p

How is Cree considered a science civ if you don't mind me asking?
Production, growth and encouragement to form alliances. Sure not as science as korea and definitely not locked to science, but that's what I would play them for. While domination can also work, the lack of a proper war bonus or strong conquest unit hurts them from that perspective

They are generalists and can go for any victory type with their early gold and production bonus.

No religion or cultural bonuses tho...at all. Meaning that, as I said you are looking for either science or domination (ideally)

You can snowball either of those early because you will simply getting more production, money, and population growth than anybody else in the early game. UI at pottery that provides housing, production, and gold depending on placement, free trade route and trader also at pottery, and a more mobile and stronger scout.

Nobody knows what brochs were for, and they predate Scotland by many centuries. I'd go with distillery or some sort of fort for a UI if there is one.

New leader closeup.png

Reviving this thread so we can speculate about headband guy....

Unknown Leader and his Civ colors 1.png

His Civ colors as seen to the Northwest of Rotterdam and on the minimap.

Is he really Lautaro of the Mapuche or is he some Polynesian leader?
