New Civ Tweet... what could this be?

It's possible, and then that way all the hotfixes could just be included in an all-encompassing expansion. But like I said earlier, I see it as being bare-bones: it'll fix a lot of problems, add some major features, a few civs/leaders, but then we'll have to buy the rest as DLC.

Since they are using the same model as Civ V and so far have been consistent, DLCs will only include Civs, leaders, maps, scenarios, wonders, natural wonders and CSs, so "buy the rest as DLC" doesn't make much sense unless you're talking about this things. Actual systems and changes to the game will only be sold in expansions. Even if they rush the expansion out and it come out in a poor state, any improvement needed later for the systems will come in patches.

I'm not saying this means anything, but you may want to consider that since the 64-Bit "Appocalypse" on iOS, the CivRev games no longer work on updated devices. I.e. there currently is no mobile Civ game (don't know about Android, but that's not a big market for premium games anyway).

Remember the announcement that Firaxis' owners won't publish games without "recurrent purchases" anymore?

A Civilization F2P mobile game with civs hidden behind random loot boxes? You may be afraid now.

PS: Apparently Belgium is currently trying to get lootboxes and other gambling mechanisms in games banned across the whole of Europe, in the wake of the Battlefront 2 fiasco. Interesting times.

Oh god...Let's just not start this discussion here okay? All these Lootbox/SWBF2 discussions on Reddit are enough for me.Thanks! :)

Maybe this is another set of DLC. Like 2 or 3 that will get released starting in January. Maybe all at once.

Since the DDE is satisfied, they have to sell these, hence the fancy teaser.

I'm more inclined to believe this is the case. Also another patch with considerable changes to a specific system, like religion in the fall patch.

Or it could be a season pass, like the DDE. For all the Civ 6 stuff they release in 2018.

"How will history remember you?" makes me think whatever it is will at least include the Hall of Fame feature. Hopefully there's more to it than that. I doubt they'd put so much effort into a teaser if that's all they were including.

It might however be connected with the board game nonetheless. Maybe a board game live stream. The wheel with the eras might appear there to mark in which era you are right now.
Someone asked and they said it is NOT the board game.

As pointed out in a Reddit thread this is literally a 'revolving' wheel - i.e. it could be a new Civ Revolutions being announced.

What a ridiculous claim! There are far more Android phones out there than iOS phones.

Didn't Beach say he wanted to work on late game and espionage first before the first expansion?

I think he wanted to work on those things for the expansion.

Not exactly. It was discussed as something he would like to do in the future. There was no order of operation revealed. Presumably, they could tie espionage, diplomacy, the end game, and world Congress all together for the first expansion.

Yes, this question sounds common to us. :yup: Civ 3 and Civ 1 had a scala about it:

The most terrifying feature of the video is stone age coming after information era. Apocaliptic scenario?

On a serious note, it's too little time passed after major patch and DLC. Both are usually announced after release.
On the other hand, expansions are usually announced beforehand, but with usual schedule they come in about a year and a half after release. So that's a bit too early for it too.

Smaller scale expansion is likely, but I'm really worried about the game overall polishing in this case. Development constantly fails in fixing major patch problems even in vanilla.

I don't know why you all think that it's too soon for an expansion. Warlords came out only 9 months after Civ IV and BtS was only 1 year after that.

Because Ed said, in multiple interviews, that they are planning to use the Civ V development model, which had 1.75 years between vanilla and G&K (with DLC in between) and then 1 year between that and BNW.

The more I think about it, the more I like the "season pass" idea. Whereby next week they would say something like "In 2018 we will have 1 expansion and X more DLCs. But if you buy the season pass for the low, low price of $Y, you can have all of them for less than you would pay to buy them individually. More details in the coming months."

Well dev model =/= dev timeline. And the first xpac for Civ V was likely behind (internal) schedule when they shuffled Shafer out so by all accounts the original plan may have been a 1 year xpac all along.

The wheel cycles through images that depict a circular object of life on each slot.

Lion King crossover scenario confirmed.

But if you're doing that, you're announcing the expansion. And in terms of press/marketing, you don't really want to spoil the main show, which is the expansion presumably. As in, you don't want to announce "there's an expansion coming next year" without also being able to say, "and look at its cool theme".
