New Civ7 short: “Glory to Puddington“

Only tangentially relevant, but there seems to have been an increasingly prevalent correlation between the phrase "one more turn" and the game mechanic in which you keep playing after a victory. "One more turn" is a phrase generally used to describe the feeling urging you to keep playing, and the button to continue playing after a victory has been labeled "just one more turn" or something akin to that in reference to the phrase. The "one more turn" chant is obviously in reference to the phrase, not the mechanic the phrase has become associated with, in this video.

Yes, except that the other major selling point of the video is the ability to custom-name a settlement, which is a feature that was only just patched in. Along with "one more turn."

What I certainly disliked in the ad is that it is either deliberately implicit about what the target audience for the game is (generally very young kids; not many others in their right mind would use this line about pudding in the game ^^) or unaware of the actual (?) audience for the game.
Civ ads were always on the silly side, yes, but perhaps with Civ7's known problems atm there should have been a sense of urgency about making promotional material which at least are mostly liked.
Anyway, I am just one person (obv), yet my criticism of the ad commands that Puddington is erased from the map asap.

Can you even rename things in game yet?

You can.

The part which confuses me is how the player’s username is referred to as the leader of whatever army this is. In Civ VII, we’ve changed this perspective and now play as a leader from the roster we have been given.

Also, the “one more turn” chant — until the last update, this hasn’t been a feature.
This video has been released AFTER these features were implemented.

And you're overthinking this. It's just funny.

Too controversial to be 'an art'.
well no matter that there are three black women being Player Characters in this game (Hatshepsut, Harriet Tubman and Saruniya Amina), woman shown riding a horse look nothing similiar to any of these.
Why don't choose anyone who looks alot more like Amina to leads 'The Horde'? since she always introduce herself as an aggressive leader of robber band 'who thakes everything from anyone'.

The woman on the horse represents the player, not any of the leader avatars you play as.

I believe they chose a black woman specifically to give as much contrast compared to the asian men she's leading into combat, so that you would KNOW she represents the player. It's weird how that observation flew over the head of many.

Not everything is DEI. A lot of the logic on the other side however, is stupidity.

They invest on funny yet useless commercials but had no interest to hire a UI developer.
Could someone post the funny one? Or at least a link.

I don’t think so, because the woman on the horse names the leader, Melvin392 or whatever, who I think represents the human player username.

Who cares what race everyone is? She does a good job in the commercial—not that the ad does anything for me particularly.

This “trailer” perfectly encapsulates the issues with Civ7: total immersion killer.

And that’s not even counting the immense amount of cringe.

What about the ad is a total immersion killer?
My guess is the humour Moderator Action: *SNIP*Let's not go there please. -lymond

Personally, I don't even care much about immersion within the game.

Yes... but a visual representation of A Player Character doesn't hurt either. Via a disembodied hand and voice.

My guess is the humour
Oh, it's the typical "let's think of something FUNNY" straight man brainstorm, humour which aims for zany irreverence and often lands on forced cringe. We've seen worse of that. I've certainly seen worse recently, given that I am a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.

You mean the Moderator Action: *SNIP* or here either. -lymond bear from Peru

Spoiler :
This post is a joke to detract from the thread's immersion.

It'd have been better if the town was called Paddington, yes. Although it is a rather mid area of zone1 in London, mostly featuring small hotels apart from the large eponymous station.
The British accent (I have to suppose the actress is British) was among the cringe elements ^^

This seems like an ad for Clash of Clans, not for a Civilization game. Is this really where the franchise has fallen to?
Has the franchise fallen, or have our advertising styles changed? I'm sure that whoever Firaxis hired to make ads knows what works. If this is the kind of ad that works, then so be it.
