New Diplomacy Game- CivDip009?

what do you mean by "press"? sorry, my first time playing here at cfc

Press is generally something you write to be relased at the time of the update. It is a bit of roleplay and explains your actions or disinforms others.

Press, as in newspaper press. It doesn't directly affect the game, but you can have some fun with it. And it's optional.

ok, got it. so, how should we deside the gm? we'v got 3 volonteers so far

Here's a complicated idea but it will work unbiased: we need two people who are not GM candidates. One will PM us each a different number 1, 2 and 3. The other will PM us all the same random number 1, 2 or 3. Whoever is the assigned number is GM. As long as the two PM'ers don't converse it will be a random, and therefore fair, decision. Of course we could come to a consensus instead, but that would take ages ;).

ok, i like your idea, so how about volonteers for these two people? common somebody lets get this started

I'm still around and willing to play ;) I might not check back for another day or so. If we pick countries based on consensus, I ask for England ;)

I will be the first Pmer if you want.

ok, you can send the 3 people who volontered to be GM a pm with numbers 1,2,3 different one for every person.
now we need 1 more person to pick a number....

They are sent.

ok, got mine, just need someone to pick a number now......we could go and ask in the OT forum, I'm sure there are plenty of people willing....

Alright the number is two, meaning I am the lucky GM!

Here's what I want from you now. There are 7 people playing:
EmperorSnefix - confirmation received
Pontiuth Pilate - awaiting confirmation
Stormbringer - confirmation received
Azale - confirmation received
naervod - confirmation received
Sheep2 - confirmation received
BobTheTerrible - confirmation received
Snefix, we need house rules. Post them in this thread.
The other 7 of you, email me at solar.flare@verizon.net with countries in order of preference to confirm that you are playing. Please include CivDip009 in the beginning of the subject of everything you email me. Once this is done I'll make a new thread for the game and we will start.

ok, I sent the e-mail, hope this gets started soon.

Yep, I'm in on this.

Mind if you give me a day to review my Diplomacy strategy before I turn in my list? I know Italy will be far down on my list :ack:

Do not use the "send-email" button - I created a clone email for my account so I wouldn't be deluged by spambots. I'll set up another email account soon and give you all the address ;)

I'm still here and email has been sent.

I am playing the email will be sent soon.

Ok, sorry it took me awhile to reply I've been busy at work. Here's what I figure the rules will be

Spring Diplomatic Phase: 72 hours
Spring Movement Phase: 24 hours
Fall Diplomatic Phase: 72 hours
Fall Movement Phase: 24 hours
Winter Placement Phase: 24 hours

If all goes well and fairly smoothly we can get through one game year inside of nine days. I'm not sure how long you guys want this to go, but I feel like this is a smooth pace that should be fairly easy to follow.

I would ask that weekends not be counted in this. After all my girlfriend gets agitated if I spend time on the net too much then........, other than that though it looks fantastic.

You don't need separate diplomatic and movement phases, unless you just mean retreats. We should combine them into one 96-hour period, the only requirement of which is that you must send in at least one set of orders by the end of the period (deadline). You can send in more than one set of orders each season; only the latest will be used. I recommend sending "provisional" orders at the beginning of each season, then sending in another set after discussions if moves have changed. Retreats should be sent with unit orders (only for units that could be dislodged), and may be conditional/dependent on that season's moves, etc. Here is an example:
"A Bur retreat to Par if unoccupied, otherwise retreat to (in order of preference) Mun, Mar, ..."

As for builds and disbands, you should also send in (conditional) builds with winter orders, but you may change them during the 24-hour winter adjustment period. I say send them with orders just in case, because the 24 hour period is short enough to accidentally miss.
