New Diplomacy Game- CivDip009?

I think it would be best to combine the phases together, because if you miss just a day and if that day was the moves then you'll screw everyone else up.

Why don't we have somethign like:
Spring due Monday @ 12:00
Fall due Thursday @ 12:00
Winter Due Friday @ 12:00

and diplomatic phases during/between. hat's basically how I am playing with my friedns and works out to a nice, steady pace of 1 yr=1 week.

i asume by winter you mean the build orders? didn't we deside to send thouse in with the fall orders? I say make it simple: monday, and thursday, one for spring the other for winter...or is there a problem with this?

Yes, winter means build orders. A good reason to have the extra day for winter is so that you can look at the board before deciding builds for sure. Conditional build orders are difficult, when you try to take every possibility into account.

I would suggest making longer deadlines. Also take into account that I may not process the orders at exactly the right time (I have random things pop up on my schedule). I think 4-4-1 would give enough time for everything, and it would scatter the weekends (so not every spring is during the weekend, etc.).

Well the only reason I suggested having a set schedule is just that. I would find it easier to know that moves are due on a set basis then having it change every week. It doesn't matter to me whether they're due on a 4-4-1 or weekly basis, Ijust thought it would be easier for all if they were like that.

I don't like sending in conditional orders. Sometimes if or where I retreat a unit is part of my tactical approach to the game. If we have conditional retreats/builds then you can count me out.

Yes Bob's schedule is easier for me to keep track of also. Otherwise you may get some NMRs happening, something that everyone detests.

Sorry Magnus, that's something you simply have to deal with when you're playing an internet game. Take it or leave it. The point of coditional retreats being that it makes the game move faster, it avoids NMRs (no moves received), and it satisfies the otherwise-impossible-to-enforce rule that there is no discussion between movement and retreats. You can still retreat to the place you want to retreat no matter what other people ordered; that's why they're conditional. It actually adds tactics to the game, Magnus, because you have to consider what could possibly happen.

If you want to drop out anyway, let us know for sure so we can find a replacement.

No Moves Received - if a player doesn't send in orders for a season. That's why provisional orders are very good idea.

Please count me out.

When I GM a game (as I am currently doing on redscape.com) I have the orders deadline on one particular day of the week, then 24 hours for retreats and the another 24 for builds. People conversing during the short window is unaviodable, but I consider conditional retreats/builds to be a far greater variation from the original boardgame. I allow for the game to speed up at endgame if the remaining players wish, to get it over with quicker.

Anyway, have fun.

Yeah thats the way I usually play too. I don't see myself being able to keep track of the current proposed schedule :(

I don't mind the conditional build and retreat orders, thouse are ok by me, but it would be easier to fit the scedule to a week, makes it easier for all of us.

So are we going to switch back to the 48-24-48-24-24? It's acceptable to me, I just wonder if that's enough time for discussion between turns and submitting retreats and builds? If it's alright with everyone, though, then it's fine with me. I'm not the one playing.

Anyone opposed to the 48-24-48-24-24 system?

Sorry, I don't like playing with conditional builds either. :( They've messed up more than one Dip game I've played.

I endorse Magnus's system. The longer between deadlines the better because then we have time for REAL diplomacy. Just one amendment: if everyone has submitted orders with "FINAL" at the top, then the GM has the option of resolving orders immediately instead of waiting for the deadline.

C'mon, guys, conditional orders suck... :p ;) Besides, it took us a few weeks to get enough people together, are we all going to fall apart now? :ack:

Announcement

Due to popular consensus we will use the 48 hour diplomacy, 24 hour retreat, 48 hour diplomacy, 24 hour retreat, 24 hour build (48-24-48-24-24) system. If you sent me an email confirmation and now wish to withdraw from the game because you don't like the system, send me another email informing me. If you are on the list to play and haven't yet sent confirmation, please do so or you may be replaced.

[edit: that's Pontiuth Pilate and Magnus who we're waiting for]

I concure. If there are conditional orders, and no set days for orders, I dont think I will be playing myself. I have RL to keep track of also.

I still think we should hav a sytem where orders are due on a certain day. It is much tidier. Slower yes, but allows for diplomacy. Remember people liv all around the world as well. In the current system I fear I would be at a disadvantage, I live in Australia and wont be online at the same time as others.

Spring Orders Due - Tuesday 3pm EST (8pm GMT, 9pm BST, 5am Wednesday in Eastern Australia)
Spring Retreats Due - Wednesday 3pm EST
Fall Orders Due - Friday 3pm EST
Fall Retreats Due - Saturday 3pm EST
Winter Builds Due - Sunday 3pm EST

Any other timezones I should add?
